has no effect on extreme nut cases. Strait jackets are the only answer.
2. And this is what Netanyahu wants in his Government?
David ,   The Galilee   (02.23.13)
Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Development of the Negev and the Galilee, Silvan Shalom, stated on Channel 2 News last night that the "majority of the country wants a Netanyahu Government with the Haredim". He is just as delusional as his boss! 31/120=25%. Since when is 25% a majority? Netanyahu MUST answer one question - where is he going tp get NIS40 billion from? It appears the he will tax the middle class until they are the poorest people in Israel because the Haredim will NOT let him take money from their Yeshiva Bochas and their folk who do not work and don't pay taxes but leech of the land! Bibi, its a Government with Bennett and Lapid whether you like it or not or elections which will put you into opposition and YOUR party will throw you out! Already their is talk of a "Putch" in the Likud-Beiteinu!
3. #1 No no no,not strait jackets
Raptor   (02.23.13)
That is very inhumane, just send them all off to lala land in Williamsburg and Monsey.
4. Dear Heradis
Jean-Pierre ,   Austria   (02.23.13)
You are a disgrace to The ancestors of Israel. men and woman are to be equal, both are human beings with full rights blessed by G-d. You are a fool, a fool king solomon would call You aswell, You worship moses, The man who G-d banned from entering Israel for breaking The commandments. Heradim, so yourselves a favor, leave Israel and go and live in Mecca.
5. the missing girls
Ralph ,   rishon   (02.23.13)
The "normal" Israelis should simply boycott shops that do this.
6. Median
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.23.13)
Not religious myself but the Religious-Zionist movement Ne'emanei Torah Va'Avodah, seem to be the only one making sense here: "The despicable treatment of women, on both sides, strengthens extremism and creates a public domain which ranges between over-conservatism and over-permissiveness. The public is responsible for designing a road in the middle, which respects human beings and does not see them as an object."
7. Haredim must think there are pedophiles among them
Scott ,   Ramat Gan   (02.23.13)
why else would they be worried about showing the faces of little girls?
8. Aberrant culture
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.23.13)
G_d never intended for Jews or anyone else to marginalize women the way some Haredim do. We all were born with common sense, critical judgment and independent thought. The haredi culture is aberrant. I think they have stopped practicing Judaism, and are practicing something else.
9. haredi newspaper designed for hared to read why
zionst forever   (02.23.13)
Who cares if the haredi leave Esther out the adds that go in newspapers ?designed for the people who share their culture buy. They are not exactly trying to force the national press to do the same so why should anybody care? If this was being done by arabs in the arab newspapers would Ynet or anybody else be interested? Problem is there is nothing secular love nothing better haredi hatred. Thats reason that Lapid won a single Knesset seat and why the idea of forcing them to serve in the army is treated like the most important issue we must address, not Iran or economics priority must be drafting the haredi

the Mid-East. Pics of girls, women and even women shoes banned. Back of the bus. told who to vote for. An example for the rest of world to strive for. Not to mention the racsim and apartheid
12.  2 good things woman are good for!

it seems they are in need of help.

an action is taken to marginalize women and further separate them from from haredi men in some way. It is time for a sociologist at a university to conduct an independent study to fully understand the long-term impact of this marginalization and separation, and determine if it causes a higher incidence of sexual child abuse in the haredi community vs. the non-haredi Jewish community.
16. NOT Judaism…
Colorado ,   uSA   (02.24.13)
I agree. Like Moslem fanatics they want to erase the feminine side of humanity. Burkas might work… The dehumanization of girls and women is not that hard to achieve and there are plenty of examples pretty close by. And yes, when a society becomes exclusively homosexual by association in the everyday workings of that society, many perversions become the new "normal." Answer is not to fob them off onto the IDF, but to train them in small grops for service enterprises. They have to develop the ability to reclaim their humanity.
17. #10: We will give it a rest when
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.24.13)
the haredi rabbis become more interested in learning if the incidence of child sexual abuse is higher in the haredi community vs. the non-haredi Jewish community, and they then take proactive steps to protect the haredi children, even if it necessary to change their long-held haredi beliefs and practices. We will give it a rest when the issue of haredi child sexual becomes more important to haredi rabbis than worring about what women wear, or whether haredi men hear them singing, or where women sit on a bus.
18. Reply to 16. Not Judaism
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (02.24.13)
About 99% of Haredim find it strange to have little girls removed from adverts for Purim costumes. Girls and boys grow up in the same families, even if they have separate schools. There seems to be a competition between publishers to see who can be the most 'mehadrin' or extreme in this matter. We're not as crazy as you may think!
19. Turn about?
Joe ,   Baltimore, USA   (02.24.13)
When I was young, long ago in Baltimore, the social news -- engagements and weddings showed modest photos of the girl only. The groom was not in the photo. Later it became acceptable to publish a photo of the bride and groom. Now within haredi circles the social news seems to be limited to photos of the Gedolim, the very group who once would have avoided being photographed aside from their passport photo. Women have disappeared even from articles about women!
20. Purim and shatnes
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (02.24.13)
The good news is that most children's costumes are made of synthetics -- although you have to check. Many costumes for young childen can be passed down because they are unisex, e.g. animal costumes. Don't say it too loud or there will be a indepth investigation as to which way the costume buttons, male or female.
21. Queen Esther
jeffr ,   new york   (02.24.13)
Who are the heroes of the Purim story anyway? I always thought it was Queen Esther and Mordachai. Obviously some sectors of the Jewish community think differently. Between not wanting women to laugh and not allowing girls pictures in newspaper ads it has gotten beyond ridiculous.
22. This a fringe element amongst the Chareidim
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (02.24.13)
This is the doing of Satmar,Nuturei Karta & Toldos Aharon. Chabad & Lithuanian Chareidim do not do this Most Charedim do not do this.
23. #22: you write: "This is the doing of Satmar,
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.25.13)
Nuturei Karta & Toldos Aharon. Chabad & Lithuanian Chareidim do not do this. Most Charedim do not do this." Please share with us the practices and customs of Chabad and Lituanian Chareidim regarding reporting child sexual abuse to the police, defending the accused, and vilifying, threatening and shunning the victims and their families if they do go to the police?
24. #18 What is your perception of ...
Colorado ,   USA   (02.24.13)
these men NOT working? They are becoming social and intellectually retarded, and as such are leaning toward oppression. No one saw that coming?
25. #18: What sect of Haredism do you
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.25.13)
belong to? What are your policies and practices on child sexual abuse? Will you allow victims and their families to report the abuse to the police, and if they do without the haredi rabbi's approval, will they be vilified, threatened and shunned?
26. # 23
Yerach ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.25.13)
I can not tell you about the Lithuanians because I am not one,I am a Chabadnik. The Chabad Bet Din ruled that one must go to the police in these cases as it pikuach nefesh & sekanat nefashot.
27. Reply to number 25
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (02.25.13)
Here in the Haredi enclave of Golders Green, we believe the police should deal with allegations of sexual abuse, as the police have been doing of late. We also believe the police should deal with allegations of witness tampering or 'perverting the course of justice' as one says here in England.
28. #27: Thank you for your reply. I am
