Binyamin, we really want you but only with Lapid, Bennett and Avigdor
2. government
john ,   toronto   (02.26.13)
There is no need for an extension. If a government could not be formed by March 1st some more days are not going to make a change. Israel should be ready to form the next government by 1st. The budget should be presented then.
3. #2 - please understand what's going on
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (02.26.13)
Right now the prospective coalition parties know that they can dither and play hard-ball because they know there will be another 14 days. There will be a major acceleration in talks and coalition membership once the 14 days starts to wind down.
4. Lapid-Bennett calculate they can form own government, no BB
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.26.13)
5. Bennet and Lapid are Holding Israel Hostage
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (02.27.13)
Bennet and Lapid are blackmailing the Prime Minister for their own ambitions for power. This selfish behavior is harming Israel.
6. Lapid will probably be next PM not Bibi
zionist forever   (02.27.13)
Bennet & Lapid want to hold a second election. They will tell the public the only reason another election is being forced on you is because Bibi prefered the religious who don't want to serve in the army to us and people will fall for it. As Lapid & Bennet are the new kids on the block they have no reputation to be judged by and a good opposition leader can sell himself as the messiah as we saw with Obama first term and the voters will love him for it. A PM has to make choices that people don't like and they condemn you for it so if Bibi goes head - head with Lapid & Bennet in a second election Lapid will be holding a big party for his supporters in the prime ministers official residence. Even if Bibi gets a coalition unless it includes Shas then he will have no allies to turn to he will be little more than a figurehead with the real power in the hands of Lapid. The current system might have worked in the early years of statehood where there was only a couple of parties and coalitions were needed to gain cross party support on how to best build this new country. Now we have more parties than we know what to do with, serious issues have given way to popularist ones, the current system broke down decades ago and it seems to just get worse and wors and it desperately needs to be replaced with a system that can address 21st century problems.
