6. Shas Community
Zechariah   (03.04.13)
The Shas community ought offer something to the rest of Israel in the form of social work or Basic Training in the event of a catastrophe even a dads army with broomsticks .exemptions for scholars for sure even they ought know basic survival techniques but combat units ought receive great honours and breaks for their families .
7. Lapid's Plan is to bring down the Government
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (03.04.13)
By alienating Shas (who are no doubt problematic) serves as a calculated plot of Lapid and Bennet to prevent unity in Israel and divide and conquer. A government held hostage by Lapid will be bound for early elections (their intention) and undermines the stability of Israel's government. This selfish act by Lapid and Bennet weakens Israel which strengthens Israel's enemies.
8. Shas a bunch of hypocrites
Naes ,   Phoenix   (03.04.13)
I think it is amusing that Shas and UTJ are claiming that Bennett is betraying the settlement movement by being allied with Lapid. Just a few days ago the head of UTJ said that he would agree to dismantle the settlements "outside the blocs" in the West Bank in exchange for continued funding of Haredi yeshivas. "We're willing to demolish 1000s of Jewish homes in the Jewish ancestral homeland for more free stuff." I don't know how you deal with people who believe that if most of their men read a book all day then God will use his magic powers to bless the nation. Haredi leaders literally believe that they are just as responsible for the Six-Day War victory through their prayers as the soldiers who shed their blood. A modern state cannot subsidize magic. Israel has a very small margin of error because of the unfriendly neighborhood in which it exists so it must squeeze maximum productivity out of its small population. Haredi in the US have to work and fund their own religious institutions and they are doing just fine. In fact, they are the fastest growing group in the state of New York and are per capita wealthier than the Israeli Haredi. While the US does not have a universal draft anymore, US Haredi have to fill out their draft cards like every other US citizen when they turn 18. It is to Ben-Gurion's eternal discredit that he ever cut a deal to exempt them. Also, this is only the 2nd time in 30 years they've been in the opposition! 30 years! Are you kidding me?! They've been part of the the left, the right, the center, the Rotten Deal, the Oslo Accords, the Disengagement. Maybe it's time for them to sit on the sidelines for a while and reevaluate if mixing religion and politics is such a good idea. They should also reevaluate their relationship with the rest of their Jewish brethren (goyim and they call them) unless they want to continue being in the opposition.
9. Shame they`re not heading to Tehran
Haim ,   TA   (03.04.13)
10. Boycotting the Hareidim is wrong
Ilan   (03.04.13)
It would be better for the country for Yesh Atid and Shas to come up with a mutually agreeable method of replacing the current blanket draft deferment. A boycott for the sake of a boycott serves no ones interest and hurts the Likud's capability to form a government after the next election. Bennett should think this out. He may be creating a monster in giving Lapid a veto over current coalition members.
11. 10 Ilan I agree 100%
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.04.13)
12. Haredim
Mendoza ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (03.04.13)
Enough with them already, they are simply parasites. Times have changed and they need to work for their living and allow their children a modern education. They must either do army service or some alternative. Fortunately the new government will put Israel on track to becoming a modern democratic society, after 65 years its about time.
13. @10 - follow the news better
jrebecca ,   modiin   (03.04.13)
Bennett has already persuaded Lapid to give concessions iro calling up the Hardim. They're ready to put forward a package that has more exemptions and more options. Shas/UJT have not diverted from their "no changes at all" stand. Neither Bennett nor Lapid are boycotting the Haredim. Shas is the problem.
