Mark ,   London, UK   (03.05.13)
that so many are fighting to stay or get in. Sounds like my country!
9. Migrant workers
Yoel ,   Mizpe Ramon, Israel   (03.05.13)
This government is demissionair, since elections have taken place. Important or problematic decisions should be postponed till a next government is sworn in.
10. For some perspective:
Kjell ,   Oslo, Norway   (03.05.13)
The social-democratic / left wing govt in Norway has for a long time been - and still is - implementing a strict return policy towards long time illegal immigrants. No extemption or exception for children born in the country and their families. In this sense, Israel seems to be acting no differently than Norway, and scores of other Western countries.
11. Eli Yishai is much worse than a thug
Sagi   (03.05.13)
He is a most despicable person all round and this action of his only compounds my distaste for him and his ilk. Israel purports to be a western civilized nation and to hold to the standards of such. I ask you Mr Yishai, who ever heard in western society of a person being deported by the immigration authorites of the country of their BIRTH. This action is a product of your warped and twisted mind which has become so from a life of not living in reality.

zionist forever   (03.05.13)
The people of England are so welcoming to migrants right? In England for years the public has been demanding the government get rid of the migrants and other illegals. In England lots of people are even be demanding that workers from within the EU who have a right to go be kicked out There are clear guidelines and if the family with their kids don't meet those guidelines they are out. Should we change the law everytime we feel sorry for somebody?
13. illegal is illegal is illegal
nadav ,   tlv   (03.05.13)
the child is not to blame, but her parents are living here ILLEGALLY. they should deported ASAP. The child knows she is Filipina and doesn't need to be confused by saying Israel is her "homeland" because it is NOT.
14. David post 1
Moshe ,   T/A Israel   (03.05.13)
David, what exactly is this position you are talking of? Are these people legal by the definition of the very laws these people agreed to adhere by when they entered the land and then decided to over stay their visa's and permits? These Mothers and Fathers know exactly what they are doing when they break the law and they have willing suckers waiting like you. If they are illegal then they must go there is no option because if options are offered the door will never be closed
15. Joey NYC
Moshe ,   T/A Israel   (03.05.13)
Hi Joey,if you want the illegal migrants and their kids then you have them. No good spouting pithey statements from NYC to people in Israel.
16. We are a tiny country
Israeli grandma   (03.05.13)
and there are many powerful forces trying to chop it up into a smaller one in favour of Arab ambitions. How do we accept tens of thousands of illegal residents, most of them them culturally and socially quite unlike the legal Jewish and Arab population of Israel just because they were lucky enough to make it through the porous borders with the help Beduin bribe takers and people traffikers? Israel for the Israelis!!!! Calling MK Yishai bad names is not relevant.
17. Yoel
Moshe ,   T/A Israel   (03.05.13)
Good Idea Yoel, lets not do anything for a few weeks and pretend that the illegal migrants can stay? Lets put on hold the law and wait?
18. They are called "anchor babies"
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.13)
They are conceived deliberately and with malice aforethought, by people who are interested exclusively in staying in Israel. That does not make them Israeli. In the United States, such "families" are deported all the time. Giving birth in a country other than one's own while having illegal status or guest worker status is not enough to grant citizenship. Instead of singling out Israel for criticism, why not look at the millions of children who are conceived not because they are wanted or can be properly cared for, but because illegal aliens think that they guarantee the right to remain in the foreign country in which they are illegal aliens. Well, they are wrong. Being born in the United States to a mother who is an illegal alien is not an automatic grant of legitimate residency. Citizenship is out of the question. Why should Israel be held to a different standard?
19. Does anyone realize ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.05.13)
.... that the overwhelming majority of these children are functionally illiterate in Hebrew and need years of remedial tutoring? They are not being raised to be good Israelis. The only reason they were brought into this world to begin with is because their mothers thought it might be a way to get to stay in Israel. Well, it isn't. In fact, statistics show that the Filipino children are being raised devoutly Roman Catholic. Sorry, but that doesn't jive with being a good Israeli. No shortage of Roman Catholic countries in the world. Let them go there.
20. Most Foreign Workers are illegal
Miriam Woelke ,   Jerusalem   (03.05.13)
Tel Aviv alone has an illegal population of estimated 40,000 people. In particular from Africa. No other country in the world would allow illegals to stay. It is high time that Israel is going to deport more illegal foreigners !
21. #14 Well said!! AMEN....
Barry ,   Haifa   (03.05.13)
22. I want to help have these families deported
David ,   Shapira, Tel Aviv   (03.05.13)
There are too many voices in support of letting all of these anchor babies and their families stay. If they can rally in support of these families how can I support the opposite. I don't agree with that, want to live in a Jewish country and want to know how to make my voice heard.
23. To No. 19
Bertram ,   London, UK   (03.05.13)
Let us leave aside the legal/illegal immigrant issue for the moment. What exactly, in your view, does 'jive' with being a 'good Israeli'? Is it an ethno-religious qualification i.e. being Jewish? Or is it a continual demonstration of a willingness and capacity to contribute to Israeli society? If it is the first, then given your remark about 'being raised devoutly Roman Catholic', then by extension to other non-Jewish groups, this ought to disenfranchise quite a sizable number of the Israeli population. By definition, they simply are unable to be 'good Israelis' . Have I got that right?
24. My comment was meant for #5.
Expat ,   Adelaide   (03.05.13)
25. Migrant and Humanity
Brod ,   USA   (03.05.13)
Deporting bad migrants is necessary. But deporting innocent children of good migrants is the work of racists. Racism everywhere is evil.
26. What is illegal?
Bertram ,   London, UK   (03.05.13)
Is the position of those who would like to deport illegal immigrants to Israel based entirely on the prevailing law? By the same measure, would they have supported the Aliyah Bet which took place in the latter years of the Mandate which was, by definition, illegal i.e. contrary to the prevailing laws? If so, then it is not about the law itself but whether some people do or do not like the law.
27. @18
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (03.05.13)
It is a difficult situation. Israel should grant the children citizenship because they where born in Israel., however the issue with the parents is a total different situation. In the states if you where born in the US you are granted automatic citizenship even if your parents where visiting for a day. I am not saying give the illegal migrants automatic residency or citizenship based on the children's birth rights, but to single out the children that where born to illegals. that appears to be racism based on religion. No matter how you shake it or bake it, twist it or turn it, treating others different based on color, religion, economic status or political beliefs is racist., however I do understand that Israel is stuck between a rock and a hard place because if it does relent it does risk in 20 or 40 years the identity of a majority Jewish state.
28. PIA must accept these immigrants!
Ben Israel ,   USA/Israel   (03.05.13)
Yishai is a national disgrace, an uneducated nothing on a power trip. Immigrants make a nation great and those that come to Israel with a different faith turn into greater Israeli patriots than some of our native Israelis. They contribute to Eretz Israel in ways that make it a great nation. Please keep these people. Last but not least: Yishai is angry because, finally, it looks like we are going to get rid of haredim in the government. PIA cannot take a decision until new government is established (without him!)
29. ilegal imigrants
israel?   (03.05.13)
We are going to become africa if we dont deport them before or after they breed
30. Blame the parents, not our government!!!
