1. IDF: Very Sad.
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (03.06.13)
it used to be a people's army where the officers and enlisted men ate and slept together. But it seems to have changed to a army of elitists who are looking to either go up or out. Very Sad.

While the IDF's combat soldiers cut onions and do dishes the jobniks sit around smoking cigarettes and playing iphone poker. A misguided and Sad state of affairs in the IDF....
3. Refusing orders
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.06.13)
Feeling humiliated, or being given orders that may or may not be attuned to seniority is NO excuse to refuse orders. Only orders that are against the law may be legally refused. They could have made their complaint while still obeying orders. Zero policy is correct in this case.
4. Humiliation is not a basis for refusing orders
On the Balcony ,   NY, Kyiv, Akko   (03.06.13)
As a veteran, I cannot imagine soldiers refusing a direct order simply because it was "beneath" them. The order should have been obeyed and a complaint subsquently filed via the chain of command. In any case, there is little doubt that the suitability for command of the officer involved will be under closer scrutiny.

An ever pampered class growing more self-indulgent and disobedient, coupled with sliding effectiveness as the years pass.

you're all just pissed that when you were noobz, they made you do all the hard work, while the others with seniority were playing PlayStation all day. and now that it's your turn, you're not playing PlayStation, you're doing the same thing you were doing more than 2 years ago! so when everyone here is calling you babies, it seems like they DO know what they are talking about. Yes, granted i am grateful to you guys everyday for what you do, and what you suffer for the state and our people. we all are! in Israel we have this mentality about not being "suckers" but that doesn't give you the right to decided what is fair in the army. Nothing about what you do is fair, the others get to sleep at home everyday, and you don't! the others pretend to be sick all the time just to skip the army, you guys have to tough it up. this is why you have our respect! like the saying goes, you are not the first, and you are not the last!

But hardly a reason to refuse orders. They are in the Army and are duty bound to follow all legal orders. Did they subsequently follow the proper complaints procedures, and were the complaints properly considered by their commanders?
