1. One thing after another...

These guys have got to learn that you don't disobey orders out of pique! How dare they refuse to do as ordered during activeduty?!? In the middle of Pillar of Defense they "refrained" from doing as told? They all deserve jail.
2. Publicly Discipline/Reassign the officers
On the Balcony ,   NY, Kyiv, Akko   (03.07.13)
Such incidents should be extremely disturbing to the higher eschelons. I can think of few things more dangerous to Israel's immediate security than a disrepect for military authority which leads to such low morale and expressions of disillusionment within the ranks. The officers' training and behavior needs to be closely examined.
3. low level officer
olavi ,   espoo,finland   (03.07.13)
With officers like that liutenent Israeli army will sink to the level of arab armies. The the game is over.

number 1 - if you can't understand and read english, you should "refrain" from making a comment, so please read again what is written in the artice and apologize! I stongly recommend to you to check whats happend during "operation pillar of defence". and I hope as well that the company commander's behavior will be closely and responsible examined.
5. It is very important

that older soldiers be treated with respect. Throwing them in jail instead of dealing with a power crazy commander is madness. It is what I would expect of other armies around the world - not the IDF.

I served, my husband served, all of my children served and I have a grandson doing his national service at this time. You are not any prouder of your son than I am of mine. The fact is that military service requires a certain amount of discipline. If these soldiers have a beef, let them complain through channels. There are plenty of ways to do so. Refusing to obey orders is not one of them!

8. The channels of complaints don't always work
David ,   Israel   (03.07.13)
I myself was not allowed to go home to help my mother after she was hit by a car after coming to visit me as a lone soldier from overseas! The complaint channels are not that available in the field and the person who is in charge to take such complaints are better friends with the commanders then the regular soldiers
9. I was in the Shaked Battalion and
Lone Soldier   (03.07.13)
I know these types of soldiers. I recently got released after completing my volunteer service... I would of signed on more time but these types of soldiers are a very big reason as to why I did not (along with a few other reasons). Believe me, there is major problem when it comes to a lot of them understanding that they are soldiers and that the commanders are not their friends, but their commanders. If you have a problem with the command, deal with it through the proper channels, and it WILL be resolved... but doing things like this... This is just them being spoiled and undisciplined again. I'm compiling a report to hopefully fix this problem in the army right now (Or reduce it at the very least) ... So this article/incident makes a perfect reference point.
10. With This Kind Of Discipline How Will They Perform ....
World Citizen ,   the world   (03.07.13)
In A Real War? They might perform well when shooting at children throwing stones but what will happen when they face dedicated liberation forces armed with anti-tank missles, RPGs, mines and AK-47s? Maybe they will cut and run?

I'm not saying that the IDF is perfect. I know of a lot of problems, including a soldier that wasn't given compassionate leave when her mother was dying in the hospital. What I am saying is that the behaviour of these soldiers is unacceptable. They can state their complains in a letter to a superior officer or to the General Staff. There is nothing to stop them from complaining and they don't have to use the "official channels". I know of many that have done just that.
12. When I served, the officers were comrades
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.07.13)
in arms. They watched out for us and made sure we properly armed, enough ammo, fed, there was water for all, any medical problems were taken care of. And that all problems requiring a visit home, job interview or even someone starting a new job, they would let us go home or to a hospital to visit. We in turn would do whatever our officers asked us. Not ordered, but asked and we would give 100% to the army.
