31. ".... the depth of our heritage"
Devorah   (03.12.13)
According to Tanakh, the "depth of our heritage" includes casting our enemies out from among us, not sucking up to them. We tried that, and it has only brought misery, death and destruction to our people. It is not a "moral call" as Peres suggests. It is best defined as idiocy.
32. Peace is almost unachievable
Zechariah   (03.12.13)
Peace is almost unachievable because the Palestinians want right of return of millions into Israel and with the Islamic brothers blocked the escape of Jews from Nazi Europe to 75000 out of nine million.
33. No need forming new govt: we've got this eternal schmuck!
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.12.13)
34. Peres is Dillusional
Ellen ,   Netanya/NYC   (03.12.13)
Abbas is NOT a partner for peace. Maybe Peres needs a hearing aid but he (Abbas) doesn't even bother to hide what he says by talking Arabic. He talks in English and speaks of Jerusalem as a Judrein city. He endorses the total disassociation of Jews from our most holy places. THAT is not a peace partner. In terms of whatever was agreed upon at Oslo. Oslo is dead. Israel followed Oslo, the Arafat didn't and no matter how much he spit on his responsibilities Israel continued to give and give and give. The Arabs quickly learned that if they demand, Israel will give. So, they continue to demand. The Muslims have taken over parts of Europe. It is not safe for Jews to walk in the streets. There is a reason there is an upsurge in aliyah from England and France--and it is NOT a sudden desire to become Israeli!
35. To #4 John!
Z.Z. Coltrane ,   USA   (03.12.13)
You're are a bigger fool than Peres is!!!
36. peace possible ?
alsky ,   toronto   (03.12.13)
lol thanks for the joke. Peace is not possible until Muslims give up their dream of Islamic caliphate !
37. Mr. Peres, you cannot have settlements in a peace
Taner ,   NYC   (03.12.13)
Expanding the settlements, even keeping them is the biggest blocker of any peace negotiations not only for this conflict but for every conflict in the World. One cannot talk about peace while continuing an illegal occupation, oppression, settlements, theft of natural resources.
38. # 17 Gee You win Sol loses, again.
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.12.13)
39. # 20 Thanks great post.

40. Number 12 - toi!
Claude ,   London   (03.12.13)
Well I wonder where you or your descendants came from, bet it was not Canada, where the indigenous people have greatly benefited from your settlement! We don't want you back in Europe thanks. The Jewish people and nation have a greater claim to the Land of Israel than you have to any where. Best you stay north of the Yukon
41. 37 Taner
alsky ,   Toronto   (03.12.13)
It is not an 'illegal occuparion" it is perfectly legal since Israel won the lands in war. Furthermore, west bank was never a Sovereign country.
42. To 22
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (03.13.13)
Mr. Jason White, excuse me, but Peres was elected by Knesset, that represents all Israeli people. You have a parliamentary system, not a presidencialist one. As a Chief of State, his words are too important. He wants a honoured and SECURE peace. As a friend of Israel, like many others around the world, I admire him very much.
43. #4
k   (03.13.13)
"too good"? You mean for wanting a terrorist state who wants to destroy Israel? That's EU standards for "good" but not exclusively
44. #10
k   (03.13.13)
of course, and that state of Palestine is a JEWISH state. Go learn a bit of history
45. To 31, Devorah
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (03.13.13)
Dear Devorah. I understand your revolt. . Of course, Israel must be firm on defending her legitimate rights. But your President Shimon Peres has been a fighter for a secure and honoured peace. He is a wise man, and a democratic and humanistic leader. He deserves to be listened. All friends of yours, like me, do admire him.
46. #28 Gee. I agree with everything except....
Harry Wright ,   UK   (03.13.13)
your last paragraph. Europe HAS changed and dramatically too. Europe is now Eurostan. It is now occupied territory - occupied by muslims. There is one dominant religion, Islam, because very few Europeans practice any religion. While new mosques are going up at a rapid pace, Christian churches are closing down and the resulting void would be totally filled by the imported religion. I have to put it perspective though. The Europeans invited the occupation. In years to come, all "European" policies will reflect the ideological and religious culture of Islam. For those who complain about some negative attitudes that Europe shows towards Israel, you have not seen anything yet!
47. #1, Peres is not a loser, he makes Israelis losers
AK   (03.13.13)
The old fart is alive and kicking, getting high on foreign approval, while Israelis pay with their lives for his egocentrism and megalomania. I only wonder why the consecutive Israeli governments allow him to get away with it.
48. Ian, you are completely wrong
AK   (03.13.13)
After the WW2, Germany and Japan made peace because they were physically incapable to make war. Both fought until 1. The Soviet Army occupied Berlin and 1/3 of Germany, while the American Army occupied the rest. 2. Both Armies stayed, well, the American Army is still in Germany. 3. Japan had its fleet beaten and two cities vaporized, with the understanding that more may follow. 4. The American Army is still in Japan. The peace with Arabs has the same probability of success as the peace with Hitler. To advocate otherwise is either naive or deliberately misleading. The proper comparison is to compare Israel to Czechoslovakia in Munich, where the European betrayal didn't give them peace, after all, just like it will not give them now. The Arabs living in Judea and Samaria are just as native as Germans were in the Sudetenland, neither deserving a country. There are plenty of large territorially Arab countries to accept their brethren, with whom they share language, religion, tradition and culture. For the Jews, there is only this tiny peace of land, even including Judea and Samaria -- proper historical names for the area where some want to create an Arab state of Palestine -- state without history, distinct language or culture.
49. #15. Israel is fed up with leftist "peace making".
Chaim   (03.13.13)
Every time leftists engage in "peace making", thousands of Israelis are maimed and murdered as a direct result. Oslo alone claimed thousands of Israeli civilians. Israel is fed up with leftist "peace making". Even worse, "peace talks with Palestinians" are intended to render Israel defenseless, with a 9 mile waist. Israelis are too smart for the left.
50. 2-state will be a threat for Israel
Brod ,   USA   (03.13.13)
It is the beginning of the end of the state of Israel if this crap materializes. It is time to trash it into the dustbin. Peres should stop promoting the crap of the dark forces. When mortals tamper with the Land of Israel that GOD restored to the Children of Israel, GOD will say to them, "Bye, Bye." The consequence would be deadly.
51. peres, a fantasizer, out of touch with reality.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (03.13.13)
Peres a not so useful idiot.
52. Sol from Canada.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (03.13.13)
I am the father of three fighters in the Israeli Defense Forces and i say Peres is a dangerous dreamer. Peres was not always that way. Peres adopted his current defeatist ideology only after Menachem Begin was swept into office. And yes, Sol is a putz sitting in Toronto. Sol watch out the Americans in Buffalo will soon be attacking you. It must be nice living in a nice peaceful place called Canada. We israelies do not have that luxury. I would never trade places with Sol. Sol is a Jew pretending he belongs in Canada. We Jews have one home, eretz Israel.
53. #20 & 17
Rau   (03.13.13)
Why should Michigan rains down missiles on Toronto. It's not being occupied. But you're squatting on somebody's land. You have only yourself to blame.
54. #3, Europe needed Jews too, yet murdered 90% of the
AK   (03.13.13)
Or rather, all they could put their hands on. 'Europe' does not believe it needs Israel any more that it believes it needs Jews. The same can be said for the U.S. and the rest of the world. To believe otherwise is beyond naive. EU and the US are actually arming and financially supporting countries, entities and organizations dedicated to the destruction of Israel. It is a hard and unpleasant fact that must be faced and addressed by the Jews in Israel and beyond. Putting one's head in the sand can only lead to the same disaster as 70 years ago.
55. Peres should be held liable for thousands of Oslo casualties
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
Idiotic leftist egomaniac Peres wants to pursue another Nobel Prize at the expense of more thousands of maimed and murdered Israelis. Peres should be held criminally liable for thousands of maimed and murdered Israelis resulting from his Oslo Disaster.
56. Without Israeli aid, "Palestinians" will beg to leave.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
The only reason "Palestinians" can survive in Fictional Palestine is because Israel stupidly showers them with money, electricity, food and materials of all kinds. Cut off all the idiotic aid to our "Palestinian" would be mass murderers and "Palestinians" would soon beg to leave our land.
57. #24. Thousands of Israelis murdered due to Peres' lunacy.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
Oslo alone cost Israel thousands of maimed and murdered civilians. And Oslo is only one of Peres' lunatic "peace plans" unleashed against Israel. Peres should be held criminally liable for the countless Israelis maimed and murdered by his idiotic policies.
58. PERES SYMPOSIUM IN BRUSSELS.
FO ,   Belgium   (03.13.13)
During his stay in Belgium, President Peres had a symposium with the Dean of the Free University of Brussels. Besides other things, the Dean said and I quote: My university is also concerned by International Law and regulations, and as many others we consider the colonization of the West Bank and Israeli annexed Jerusalem as illegal and violating the Geneva Convention against transfer of population... Unquote. And unfortunately, and as usual with mainly all Israeli leaders, not one word expressed by Peres to defend Israel's rights against such slanderous accusations. Why this need to hide the fact that there is not one article in International Law, NOT ONE, that prohibits Israel's presence in the so-called West Bank! And certainly not Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949. Well, let's read what Prof Eugene Rostow, Dean of the School of Law at Yale, and author of UNSC Resolution 242 wrote about this subject: "Both Israel and Jordan did sign and ratify the (Geneva) convention. Article 2 of the convention provides that the agreement applies - to all cases of partial or total occupation of the territory of a high contracting party -. Thus the convention cannot apply, because the West Bank and East Jerusalem have never been generally recognized as territories of Jordan. Jordan administered them as a belligerent occupant between 1948 and 1967, after a war of aggression against Israel in 1948. Jordan's attempt to annex these areas in 1950 was recognized only by Britain (except for Jerusalem) and by Pakistan. In any event, Jordan has formally renounced whatever claims it may have to the territory, which is a residual part of the Palestine Mandate, and therefore subject to the rights of the Jewish people to make close settlement on the land. I regard this aspect of the controversy as legally more important than arguments based on the Geneva Convention". This was Prof. Rostow's writing! Let's go back to the symposium at the University in Brussels. What was Peres' reply, besides other things, to the Rector? Well, I quote: "...and we agree that we have to give back the land,..part of the land to the Palestinians..." Such words sound as a confession that Israel is indeed a thief, stealing territory from its neighbours and a swindler, not willing to give back the stolen land, but only a part of it. It is not amazing that in such a situation, world opinion considers Israel as a colonial power and relegate it at the bottom of this list, joining the two other junk states, Iran and North Korea. Such a situation must stop AT ONCE !
59. Is Peres for Israel or for The Arabs ? ? ?
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (03.13.13)
One thing is for sure he was the Architect of Oslo or something of that sort. result Niente >>> no Peace no War. Bravo...now it is the time to retire and let things move as required. Basta la Musica.
60. @49
Sol ,   Toronto   (03.13.13)
Chaim, first of all I am anything but a "leftist", just the opposite. The issue is not left or right, it is about trying to have a future that is not filed with anymore maimed and murdered Israelis. Even Bibbi has recognized the need for a peace deal with the Palestinians and the wider Arab world. Past policies have clearly failed, both Oslo and rightist peace rejectionists like you. What is needed is vision and creativity or all the future will be is more of the past filled with even more maimed and murdered.
