1. Yes, let them starve and die.
Captain Obvious   (03.14.13)
Wonderful news. Finally Tommy Lapid is doing what we hoped he would do all along; destroy religion in Israel and make this not a "Jewish Democratic state" but just simply a "Democratic state". Now we can be just like everyone else. Bravo to Ariel Sharon for forming this coalition government without the black hats, it will be so refreshing to see a coalition photo-op without a single peya to be seen! Now we can get down to the business of de-judaizing Israel, antagonising the religious from birth and withdrawing from territories for nothing. I hear the PM is already talking about leaving Gush Katif and without those pesty religious nutters, we may actually succeed!
2. Mazal Tov!
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne - UK   (03.14.13)
Finally a hand shake and make up - This is Israeli Politics in action - Hope the future is bright... after all what is spelt out in public during election
3. Time to leave
NOMORE ANTIFRUM ,   Jerusalem Israel   (03.14.13)
I don't see the the need to sacrifice my sons to the secularization process of the Israeli army. WE ARE LEAVING THE COUNTRY NOW to a country which respects our Judaism - USA
4. #3 Thank you for your contribution
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (03.14.13)
#3 thank you for your great contribution - leaving the country - the IDF is not into secularization, it is about dedending our country - it is where many secular Israelis are exposed to kiddush for the first time in their lives, where they meet religious people and society comes together - it is about the best of our young men and women giving to the society that has given them, From the sound of it- you certainly don't fit in to that
5. #3 - Don't let the door hit you on yhour way out!
Scott ,   USA   (03.14.13)
6. # 3 time to leave
Mike the Pal ,   Nablus, Palestine   (03.14.13)
Excellent idea young man. Take as many as you can with you to the USA. And pls don't forget to switch off the light on your way out. Shalom Ma'a al salameh
7. @3 - Good riddance
Joe ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
Don't let the door hit your draft dodging a$$ on the way out. I'm sorry that your son's blood was so much more precious than the blood of the seculars and national religious that go fight in the army. The sooner you leave, the sooner this country has gained one step back on track.
8. This is fantastic....
Danielle ,   centre   (03.14.13)
finally I feel some optimism...lets hope this is a step towards, fairness, logic, scruples and principles. In general the part of society who are fit to contribute MUST, Religion must teach a healthy outlook to a life style of working for the mouths you decide to bring into the word. And please....being religious does not have to mean being dirty.(a personal jibe I know, but REALLY).
9. Looks like a fair deal
Chopper4 ,   CPT, South Africa   (03.14.13)
This is what young blood can do to a government. This looks like pure equality to me...
10. No. 3
NYC Girl   (03.14.13)
First of all, the reason the U.S. respects Judaism is because the ultra-Orthodox behave quite differently here. They're free to practice whatever form of Judaism they please, however they can't impose it on a secular majority the way they've been allowed to in Israel. There are numerous reasons for the anti-religious antipathy in Israel that don't exist in America. But I can assure you that if Americans were subjected to the religious coercion Israelis are, their reaction would be no different..
11. #3 Thank you for your contribution
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (03.14.13)

12. #3: You are welcome to come to the US
Runner1983 ,   USA   (03.14.13)
as long as you adopt the core values of every civilized society - you work to financially support your family and not purposely go on welfare as a lifestyle choice, and you give your children an education in secular subjects so they can do the same. If you won't adopt these core values, don't come.
13. Fewer? why can't there be NO benefits for the spongers
Talula ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
I LOVE Yair Lapid - he is going to take this country out the gutter and elevate us to the wonderful country that we once were. He's a GOD!
14. #3: Bye! But don't come running back ...
David ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
when the Great USA turns of Jews! If you religious fanatics, who don't know what the word "tolerance" means but rant and rave about Islamic Fundamentalism. had shown respect for ALL, the country would have been free of the hate between the secular and the religious! As for your comment about "the secularization process of the Israeli army" praying in the Yeshiva won't stop the Arabs from butchering Jews while you "shokkel". You brought it on yourselves. Go and live with the Goyim but don't forget what the Goyim did to the Jews in Europe!
15. Some of these guys sound just like...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.14.13)
.... the whining Republicans. Losing a election does not mean the end of democracy, especially when some of the parties that lost out in Israel this time are as undemocratic as they come!
16. I can live with that
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.14.13)
As long as Arab citizens of Israel are subject to the same constraints. If they are not willing to serve, or perform national service (as the overwhelming majority of them refuse to do) -- then, their benefits disappear, too. No more preferential acceptances to Israeli universities. In fact, cut them off entirely unless they serve in one or another manner. No more subsidies for them, either. No more free passes for Arab Israelis. Hey -- fair is fair.
17. Thanks G-D ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.14.13)
While you seem to be the perfect representation of Plato s... "man is a wingless animal with two feet and flat nails" most Israeli Jews will shortly keep alive the Tora ,by celebrating the Seder of Pessah. Jews have a Jewish Neshama, and this nobody can takeaway. Look at the Russian Jews who circumcised themselves en masse, despite their advanced age. Are you uberhaupt a Jew? Not.Obvious.

Eric ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
You are a hypocrite . Judaism is about love of God Family and country, And nation. The Torah was meant to enlighten us, and make us a civilized nation. you think that wearing a black hat or shtreimel Is Judaism, you are a cult. You were happy to educate your sons for free from government Tax and living on government subsidies. Good luck in the US were you have to work for a living and pay for school approximately $11.000.00 per child. Not Israeli shekels. Bon voyage ,and don't let the door hit you in the ASS. on your way out.
19. @#1
Lenya ,   Australia   (03.14.13)
Lapid is not about de-Judaizing of Israel..but about equal sharing of burden for all Israelis. Note he has a few Rabis in his party. New Education Minister Rabbi Shai Piron is from his party. As for your suggestion that Israel should withdraw from territories for nothing..that happened to Gaza and they did get something : Rockets into Israeli cities. You are obviously a Captain of nonsense for believing that everything will be just dandy by giving up more lands to your enemies.

John Kermack ,   Karmiel   (03.14.13)
please leave and take your precious sons with you - The defence of Israel is save in the hands of my friends and family and all Israelis who really care.... 52 this Shabbat and still serving in my Reserve Infantry Company

israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (03.14.13)
I don't think you are Haredi, just someone who wants to stir up some anti-Haredi hatred. If you are Haredi, you should realize that Bennet and the Zionist Rabbis saved the honor of Torah. As for the deal, Haredi leaders who want to keep their people slaves might be sad, but the people will celebrate. Everyone without exception gets to study until age of 21. After that, only the iluim should be studying full time, the rest will be able to legally work and raise their own children. Army service will be reduced for everyone to 2 years and the will stop the feminization of the IDF.
22. This actually seems like a government
A ,   Belgium   (03.14.13)
that may work. Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best for the new Knesset and Israel.
23. USwon't be financially supporting #3's lifestyle
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.14.13)
Let's assume #3's sons even get a US residence card. Their yeshiva won't get financial support from the government, nor will their kids get away from studying math, English, and other "forbidden" subjects. Nor will they get allowances for housing or simply for "studying". And forget about welfare payments if they elect not to work. (They'd have better luck getting these things in Europe.) And yes, they'll have to be near women when riding the bus or subway, and even hear a woman's voice singing on the grocery store's PA system!
24. #3 Goodbye, good riddance -travel safe!!
Barry ,   Haifa   (03.14.13)
25. #3- made Aliyah with four kids and honor for my sons to serv
Nehama ,   Jerusalem   (03.14.13)
I am orthodox modern- dati Leumi and made Aliyah with 4 kids ranging age 2 months to 9. In answer to #3 it is a privilege to serve in the IDF and honor. My son wears his IDF kippah proudly and we are grateful. If you are so afraid of secularization send your sons to Hester army program or Nahal Haredi. Your answer is to run back to America? It's costs fortune to get Jewish education and it can't beat the education of Israeli child surrounded by Hebrew national language and majority Jewish brethren in land filled with our history. Pay me a million dollars I won't go back to the Jewish ghettoes of LA, NJ, and NY. It always felt fake and lacking depth only found in Israel.,I pray we succeed and my children will live here forever. Good luck PM Netanyahu, Naftali Bennett & Yair Lapid
26. My17 adressed to 1 Captain Obvious
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.14.13)
27. Congratulations Israel!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (03.14.13)
This is truly the dawn of a new day for Israel, where finally true democracy will prevail. While the fundamentals of being Jewish (the Torah) will be respected and nurtured, everyone will contribute to the betterment and protection of the country. This is truly a new day, and I wish the new government resounding success!
28. TO# 3
David ,   HERZLIA, ISRAEL   (03.14.13)

I THINK THAT YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION, THINKS HAVE CHANGED BABY !!!!, WE HAD ENOUGH OF THE SHNORERS DOING NOTHING !!!!, NO WORK, NO ARMY, JUST SUCKING MONEY FROM THE SECULARS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW DATE OF DEPARTURE SO I CAN COME TO AIRPORT TO MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE.!!
29. #3, about that respect in the USA
Vered, Israel   (03.14.13)
If the USA still had a draft, do you think your sons would be exempt just because they want to read a book all day long? All the new government is asking for is an EQUAL sharing of the burden of defending our country - no one gets out of it. How this is disresepcecting Judaism I'll never know!
30. the new government
Steve a ,   manchester England   (03.14.13)
My grandchildren as as devout as any Haredim yet will all serve in the army to defend the country. Why do the Haredim believe that expecting them to leave the Yeshiva & serve the people of Israel is anti Jewish ?
