31. Things to consider
Uptown ,   Tel Toronto   (03.18.13)
1. The airline industry is a disgrace and somehow delays, overbookings, etc. seem to be getting worse, not better. This guy's anger is understandable. Unfortunately his approach was incredibly stupid, even after a 12 hr flight. 2. Yes, within Israel, childish, disrespectful and barbaric behavior are tolerated without any real consequence. I once saw a soldier load his gun at the Be'er Sheva bus station because he was pissed off at another guy and implying that he would shoot him. Police came, yelled at him, then let him get on the bus where he sat right behind me. It's often a rude awakening when these pieces of trash take their attitudes outside the country and are met with consequences. 3. It really is a shame that a significant percentage of Israelis behave like animals overseas - these are the ones that get noticed, not those who are well-behaved, helpful, etc... Kills our image wherever we go and and does not endear us to world opinion. Also a shame that 99% of Israelis complain about other Israelis and behave the exact same way. 4. To those that are crying anti-semitism on this - pull your heads out of your behinds. Seriously. Do you really think someone at the airport is going over a list of names to try to screw the Jew on board? And even if there were, do you think they would recognize "Even Hess" as a Jewish name. Save your efforts for real cases of anti-semitism, which are cheapened by people like you constantly crying wolf.
32. idiot
Ellen ,   Israel/NYC   (03.18.13)
I agree 100% with # 4. I also disagree on those who feel it was anti-semetic to not let him on. There is enough real anti-semetism in the world ( and in the US) without throwing the term about and cheapening it. Airlines overbook, and occasionally they miscalculate and passengers are bumped. If EVERYONE was responsible and showed up for every booked flight, it wouldn't be necessary--but people no show and the airlines need to fill the seats--otherwise we would all be sharing the value of the empty seats! It took amazing stupidity to yell bomb and he deserves whatever punishment the US gives him. I feel sorry for his kids to have such a jerk for a father.
33. 27- hahah
k ,   US   (03.18.13)
haha ok I am sure the Airline knew he was from Israel, and people who they associate with Israel are JEWS and I am sorry I am not a coward like you, I will not pack up and leave, I like to fight things
34. US Airlines STILL fly unaccompanied baggage?
Just Sayin' ,   Israel   (03.18.13)
wow! now that is an interesting point...how does that work for them? What if...? well nuff said! Cause anyway now the terrorists know that US Airlines carry unaccompanied baggage!
35. Airline was the stupider one here
Wazowski ,   Quebec, Canada   (03.18.13)
The airline clearly decided to "pay back" this guy for his tantrum by reporting this bomb scare and getting him arrested! Nothing that happened here is logical; If the guy really did have bombs on checked in luggage, why would he be fighting to get on?? Also, just basic profiling would have made it obvious he was no suicide bomber. He made a stupid comment and was reasonably upset that the airline shaved time off their vacation, which is not cheap for Israelis. This whole "scene" was made to punish him. Israelis are much more comfortable with the word 'bomb' and don't put the country on Red Alert when someone utters it. Reminds me of a scene in Monsters Inc... 23-19!!
36. Before we blame the "Ugly Israeli" .....
David ,   Israel   (03.18.13)
What kind of a stupid airline puts passengers' bags on the plane when they DON'T HAVE SEATS! Whose the bigger bigger idiot here? Maybe the Americans didn't understand we he called them "bums" and they heard "bombs"?
37. C'mon...
Helge ,   Berlin   (03.18.13)
some of your comments are as wide generalizating as that guy acted short sighted and... may tell it stupid... may be he had a bad day before... and it got worse. He will learn :) I know that anybody from any country can get into a situation to overreact... when I happened to be first time at TLV customs I was short before ;)
38. 16 Adam...you are correct
alsky ,   toronto   (03.18.13)
I have been to Israel many times. On 2 occassions, I left early! MANY of them are truly disgusting.
39. Maybe he said BUMS! Not bombs.
Ben B ,   Baltimore   (03.18.13)
The idiots who work there should have removed the luggage. Stupid ground crew didn't know better.
40. @4 Rehovot its in Israel, u r part of the they u speak of!
Jew ,   JewLandia (Israel)   (03.18.13)
I trust that you are aware of that. Funny thing is that you sound like the "bad boy" in the Passover Hagada! Of course Sarah if you don't like it here and if you really don't like how you think we ALL behave well then you can always GO BACK TO THE CIVILIZED AND POLITE COUNTRY YOU CAME FROM!
41. Angry Israeli causes bomb scare at NJ airport
Ruth ,   Bethesda   (03.18.13)
I am not in favor of what this man did, creating terror, confusion and fear just to get what he wants. How selfish and arrogant!!!!!
42. #40
Sarah ,   Rehovot   (03.18.13)
I can't wait to get out of here. And hopefully, it will be soon. Unfortunately, I made Aliyah and now have an Israeli passport, but citizenship is basically the only thing I have in common with the people here, oh and the fact that I'm Jewish. That's it. I've lived in many countries and this by far is the worst of the bunch. The things I put up with on a daily basis make for entertaining stories, but a difficult reality...perhaps instead of getting defensive one should try and understand why Israelis are viewed as they are. Perhaps there is some truth to my words. Just saying...
43. #10 find #20 you're a perfect pair idiots but perfect
miki ,   tampa   (03.18.13)
44. Don't blame him! Most of our airline people are rude.
Isabella1709 ,   Tampa USA   (03.18.13)
I only hope that when he and his family get down here our weather has warmed up. I haven't been to the beach in weeks!
45. @42 seems u need a country all your own!
Just Sayin' ,   Israel   (03.18.13)
poor you...you've lived in many countries and still nothing works for you... sweetie MAYBE ITS YOU and not all the "bad" countries you've lived in Just saying.... ;-)
46. #45
Sarah ,   Rehovot   (03.18.13)
I'm done with this discussion. Just must say that I loved all of the other countries that I've lived in. Really, i have... i came here for other reasons. Chow everyone!
47. Sarah 42
alsky ,   toronto   (03.19.13)
I can appreciate where you are coming from. I am often disgusted when im in Israel (litter, rudness, arrogance etc) It has been a dream of mine to live in Israel for many years. As my Israeli friends say.......I need to lower the bar ! Others say....think of Israel as a dysfunctional family.
48. # 10 Anti Semitism in the US
Robert ,   Australia   (03.19.13)
This episode consolidated it.
49. Obvious detail
Mike ,   Chicago   (03.19.13)
This guy may have Israeli citizenship, but judging from his name, he is an Anglo...
50. #21 FUUNY YOU SAY THAT!
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (03.19.13)
There is a huge stereotype about Americans being fat or lazy. Does the whole world think they are all fat or lazy? I think not. Your post shows of your bad and overall poor judgment of anything. One stupid mistake of one person does not make all guilty.
51. Anti-semitism
Ari ,   Israel   (03.19.13)
They clearly singled him out because he's Jewish!
52. Israelis are not called Evan Hess...
Dina ,   USA   (03.19.13)
Who ever heard of an Israeli called Evan Hess? LOL Who are they trying to kid? What a world? Sheesh...
53. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.19.13)
Do you see anyone on this thread defending his actions? Your comment -- dripping with sarcasm, and therefore ineffective -- is seriously misplaced.
54. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.19.13)
Oh, come on. Airlines overbook all the time. The airline would have put him up in a hotel, and the following day he would have flown to Florida and caught up with his luggage there. What's the big deal? It's not exactly as if he were stuck in some hellhole. If you read the small print on any airline ticket, you will see that there are contingencies for precisely this. Moreover -- once luggage goes on and aircraft, it doesn't come off until disembarkation. Do you know where United States -- and other -- carriers learned that little policy? From El Al, whose policy it has been since long before September 11, 2001.
55. What will be the punishment?
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (03.19.13)
If he was the average American gentile-probably 20 years in a federal prison. But this is an Israeli, a Jewish Israeli to be more specific. So, there are mitigating circumstances, right? His grandparents are holocaust survivors. His cleaning lady is from Sderot. So, a $500 fine seems reasonable.
56. airline security
Ellen ,   Netanya/NYC   (03.19.13)
It is not allowed in the US and other places for a passenger to check their luggage and then be a no show. The obvious concern is that the passenger will check an explosive device and wish to save their own skin. However, in this instance the bag flew without the passenger --through no fault of the passenger.THAT is allowed. In fact there are frequently times that luggage will make an early connection than the passenger--especially on routes that have frequent flights. (but since the passenger doesn't know that the luggage is separate, it is ok security wise. )
57. @47 "fun" is in the middle of dysfunctional!
love my family! ,   Israel   (03.19.13)
58. #24: I do have a Jewish last name, and
Runner1983 ,   USA   (03.19.13)
I work in the gentile world every day. In my world, in these days, it is rare to experience anti-semitism, an improvement from many years ago. By the way, if you think that airline employees have the time to decide who should board a plane depending on nationality, (unless, of course, the passenger is making a jerk of himself or is judged a security risk) you don't have a clue on how the process works.
59. The AIRLINE is at fault. He should SUE them...
Harry Wright ,   UK   (03.19.13)
for grave inconvenience, mental anguish and not meeting their contractual obligation. If he purchased a ticket for a seat on a specified flight then that is as good as a contract. If he presented himself (and family) within the specified period then he should have gotten on that flight. Airlines do passengers that all the time and get away with it. I once had to wait eighteen hours for a connecting flight because of that same over-booking and I behaved myself only because my extremely hypertensive mother was with me. No joke, I wanted to strangle every last one of the counter clerks. I demanded that they get us a connecting flight and put us up at a hotel, with transport provided both ways and I got it.
60. I can understand his frustration. Perhaps this was the once
allan ,   canada   (03.19.13)
in a lifetime vacation to Disney world for his family, and now, he will spend his vacation trying to get his luggage back, and arguing with the airlines. Perhaps he was surprised that they would allow the plane to take off with unaccompanied baggage and murmurred something about the poor security and if it had been a bomb there would be a major problem. Or perhaps he just wanted to prove to the airline that if they really wanted to, they could get his bags off the plane after all. Of course he was wrong in doing what he did.
