1. I guess now I know why you can't drink in Islam
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (03.19.13)
Alcohol has female hormones in it. When you drink too much: You become disoriented, emotional, you talk too much and you can't drive a car!
2. makng society more liberal risks being an arab spring victim
zionist forever   (03.19.13)
In a strict Islamic society like Saudi Arabia everybody knows in society and accepts it. Men are the rulers, their wives are their property, they can't travel without being accompanied by a male relative etc. Also if woman cant drive they cant go out and protest. Once you start giving the population freedoms they will gradually demand more and more until you lose your grip and we have a revolution and you get deposed. In the countries that were victims of the arab spring individuals were in a position to organize and rise up but in Saudi Arabia under the current system mass protest is just not problem.
3. Maybe the Saudis want change, but it's doubtful...
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (03.19.13)
...if the West wants it. "Stability" has always been the keyword for Washington, European governments and Israel when it comes to their approach towards the Arab states in the Middle East. And Saudi Arabia is/has been one of most stabile states in the region.
4. What did I say week ago?! It started with shootings instead
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.19.13)
of beheadings as punishment and now this!! Sharia is going down the drain Brothers! There's no end in sight....
5. Coming out of the stone age.

Welcome to the real world.
6. What next, using toilet paper?
A ,   Belgium   (03.19.13)
only 5 more centuries and they may catch up to the rest of the world!
7. 3
zionist forever   (03.19.13)
Whilst the west can preach when it comes to Saudi Arabia the west of course more than anybody wants stability not greater freedoms. Just imagine what would happen to global oil prices if the citizens of Saudi Arabia were in a position where they had enough freedoms to make protest and possible revolution possible. When we find an alternative to oil the west can and will preach but as long as the world needs oil and Saudi Arabia is the main supplier of it nobody in the west will want to rock the boat.
8. saudis discover logic
nologic   (03.19.13)
After discovering fascinating world of logic and reason, the words logic and reason are forbidden from the muslim world. anyone reconsidering logic and reason is takfiri.
9. Read carefully, folks
A ,   Belgium   (03.19.13)
"Saudi Arabia's Shura Council agreed to reconsider the driving ban" "Reconsider" doesn't mean anything really, that could take another 500 years. , Its like Abbas saying "we will reconsider recognizing Israel as the Jewish state." Moslem double talk and lies.
10. can anyone tell me what century
(03.20.13)
does saudi arabia live in
11. #10
Reuven ,   Netanya   (03.20.13)
Same century as here in alquds/jerusalem, where women can't be used in ads or where they need to sit in the back of the bus. Our haredi brothers, or at least their leadership, together with our muslim brothers, are all living in the stone ages!
12. It's OK to criticize Saudi's shortcomings..but it's
Edithann ,   USA   (03.20.13)
not OK to criticize Israel's shortcomings....Is that the way it works? Where is my last post about Domestic Violence Shelters for Israeli women being so late? But Israel isn't behind the times...the Saudi's are... Wish my name was A. Belguim I'd have some clout in speaking my mind any time.....Oh, but then I'd have to lie about facts and want to 'kill' all Arabs ..I don't think I could do that, .I have values and morals ..so I guess I'm doomed to tell the truth! TATA
13. New fangled things?
Yousef ,   Kabul   (03.22.13)
All this talk about these new fangled things called 'cars'. I suppose it's time to trade in my horse and wagon.
