Chris.B ,   Australia   (03.25.13)
the new leader of the jihadi's is an unknown IT man from Texas..lol..the west shows its stupidity true to form. It's funny how Qatar is suppressing its own revolt unabated by international condemnation and it supports the farcicle freedom of Syrians with stooges and money for more death and destruction.
2. God's Plan
reaL vision ,   usa   (03.25.13)
is for the syrians to remain in the TOWER OF BABEL and continue to destroy themselves and their country. Yes they have lost their way. And nobody really wants to get involved
3. Putin will haul them in ICJ, regrdless. Together

4. Syrian Opposition in Disarray
Edward ,   Hailey   (03.25.13)
All this disorder and disagreement among the opposition, is one of the main reasons we in the U.S. should not militarily back the opposition at this time.

Thought the US had identified which rebel group to back and was actively supporting them. As Assad appears to be losing his grip on power maybe now is the wrong time for the US and West to pull out.

And where do you get the authority to tell us what is God's Plan? I have studied the Tanach all my life along with Brit Chadashah and have never read such a plan. You should be very careful how you speak in His Name when He has not spoken.

Nothing matters! It is either sunni or shite in the end. What does it matter. Islamist terrorists are islamists terrorists. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
10. The problem ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.25.13)
.... is that governments in the West have this foolish notion that there is a unified opposition in Syria. There are quite a few groups with very different goals. For any Western nation to back any segment of the rebels arrayed against Assad is daylight madness. Lurking in the background is Al Qaeda, and a whole host of even deadlier terrorist groups. Let them sort out their own issues and when the dust settles, figure out whether it's a group worth supporting with funds and arms. Odds are, it won't be. Remember when the West armed the mujahiddin in Afghanistan? Who emerged? The Taliban. And all the arms and financial backing that the West had foolishly poured into Afghanistan rebels ended up being used to finance terror against the West and to kill Western troops when it became necessary to intervene in Afghanistan physically. Syria will be no different. The only thing that the West should do now is take whatever steps necessary to secure all the vast stocks of chemical, neurological and biological agents that could spell disaster for civilization.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.25.13)
Harry, dear, you can only pull that off if you know how to spell. Yes, the correct spelling is "farcical." However, the correct spelling happens to be "popsicle."
12. #11. Sarah, you did not get it dear.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (03.25.13)
That was TOTALLY intentional. Great to know that someone is alert though!!! Just to let you know, "popsicle" was put first then changed to "popcicle" PURELY for the fun of it. But, I'll concede, I do make spelling errors especially when I am in a hurry. This one? Pure fun because I don't usually comment on spelling errors - I could not resist it, "farcicle" looked so odd so I hope "popcicle" looks equally odd :-)
13. The only argument ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.26.13)
... for Western intervention is in order to secure the weapons of mass destruction. Syria always had large stocks, and their stockpile quadrupled when Saddam Hussein sent his to Syria for safekeeping following the United States' invasion of Iraq. Just to make it clear, these stocks include weaponized sarin, botulin toxin, smallpox, anthrax, mustard gas and a whole host of other very deadly chemical, biological and neurological agents. Frankly, given the sheer dimensions of the havoc and destruction that would descend upon civilization should these weapons fall into the wrong hands, it would be worth it to simply destroy Syria; lock, stock and barrel. Twenty-five million dead Syrians would be a horrific tragedy. But not nearly as horrific as the deaths of several hundred million -- or more -- and the circumstances under which they would meet their demise. Sorry if I come across as being deliberately cruel or advocating mass murder. I do not. But can anyone really argue that civilization is not at stake?
14. To: Harry at No. 12

In that case, Harry, mea culpa!
15. for Israel thats great
ZIONIST FOREVER   (03.27.13)
If the political forces are in disarray and the fighters a rule unto themselves when Assad is gone the more likely it is Syria will break down into sectarian violence. The more they fight each other the more of their weapons which once would have been pointed at Israel is now being used against each other and it also means that there wont be any outside political pressure to make territorial concessions to the new regime prove we are dedicated to peace ( peace in our time ). We have seen this sort of thing happen time and time again when the new boy comes to power or if they have problems we are asked to make concessions to strengthen them against the more radical forces and it will happen all over again. To the west and Israel's left as soon as the fighting stops providing Israel was not directly attacked then they will all turn a blind eye to the fact that Galilee commuities could be under fire if we gave up the Golan and fighting broke out again because all the left care about are treaties for the sake of treaties and foreign politicians look to get themselves into the history books by being the ones to broker a deal. So more troubles Syria has in a post Assad country the better and the easier it is to show the world that sometimes land is better than peace.
