1. And I'm fed up with Eitan Haber's ignorance of reality...
Alex   (03.28.13)
2. This writer is deranged- Turkey is an empire??
Rachel ,   US   (03.28.13)
Maybe in Erdogan's mind.
3. Get lost, Haber. You're NO GOOD.
Jake   (03.28.13)
You are an arrogant, bad journalist. For the love of God, RETIRE.
4. I take the Machiavellian approach
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.28.13)
It is better to be feared than loved. Since you can never compel anyone to love you, it is important to cultivate the situation so that they fear you. That's Israel's greatest leverage. Anti-Semitism hasn't magically disappeared, it has simply morphed into an obsessive hatred of the State of Israel, that most tangible symbol of the Jewish people. As long as people fear us, we are safe. And size does not matter -- quality trumps quantity every time. The Turks haven't been battle-tested since Galipoli -- unless you think that massacring unarmed Armenian civilians and Kurdish civilians or invading a tiny, helpless island constitutes being "battle-tested." The Turks have begged off actual military involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya and Waziristan, because it would make them "uncomfortable" to act against fellow Moslems. The rest of NATO has picked up the slack .... while the Turks do the cooking and the cleaning. The United States has been battle-tested, and found severely wanting. Like I said -- size does not matter. Quality does. It is not the quantity of soldiers in the fight, but the quality of fight in the soldier. In that, Israel excels. If we were to stop paying attention to collateral damage, we'd be truly unstoppable.
5. the facts are not easy to stomach
michel ,   kopenhagen   (03.28.13)
I would wholeheartedly agree with Haber saying that israel is a small country, but still always trying to eat more that it can bite with unnecessary arrogance and boastfulness. It would be totally erroneous to underestimate a power like Turkey like the way Sarah did above. Apparently, she knows nothing about #2 Nato military, Turkey's military might when saying they are not "war-tested" she has not read about the Korean war, and how the destiny of war changed dramatically with small number of Turkish troops. The war of Gallipoli was during the years when Turkey was in total misery and poverty, still Turks fought succesfully with Australians, New Zelanders, and Englishmen all combined. The enemy forces failed against the Turks and retreated with defeat. Out of ignorance, she mentions about the Armenian treachery as massacre on the part Armenians. One needs to read some unbiased history books before commenting. Finally, Turks have not been fighting against Kurdish civilians either, as %20 of its population is Kurds. It is only the Kurdish rebels that government is fighting against. The facts are not easy to stomach, i know.
6. "Few against many" was a MYTH?!
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (03.28.13)
Considering that the armed forces of the entire Arab League were attacking to dispossess the Jewish residents of the Palestine Mandate while David Ben-Gurion was reading the proclamation,I would say that it was no myth. In fact,it was an accurate assessment of the situation. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
7. To hear the truth
Murat ,   Antalya   (03.28.13)
does hurt sometimes. Look at the mirror and see what you became. Even when you won't accept it...ur policiy is out of time..either you swim with the current or you keep swimming against the current..enjoy it..
8. Talk about a Ghetto Mentality
Dan S.   (03.28.13)
This article sounds like the line one would have heard in a Shtetl somewhere in the Pale of Settlement. Eitan Haber needs to grow a pair and exhibit some pride for a change.
9. Erdogan
Al ,   Brooklyn NY   (03.28.13)
He thinks he is a legend in his own mind!
10. Steups! This man contradictsd himself.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (03.28.13)
"Few against many" is a story or a fact? Seems like a fact to me, what with him providing actual numbers. If he references Turkey as the Turkish empire then I suppose there is the Russian empire, the Chinese empire the US empire, the Australian empire etc etc. What qualifies Turkey to be an empire? He didn't say. One thing though, Turkey can "gain some points with the international community" if it gets the hell out of Cyprus and take all its unwanted baggage with it - like all its muslim citizens occupying the sovereign country of Cyprus. Hell, this guy had 5 minutes to rustle up an article or go on the breadline. I am trying so hard to follow his meanderings :-)
11. "Mighty Turkey???"
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (03.28.13)
Look north across the Black Sea, Mr. Erdogan, where muscular Putin has begun to launch military exercises. And begin counting your days in office.
12. Who is Haber working for? Certainly not Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.28.13)
Haber's articles have always been dumb and anti-Israel. But lately, they are downright deranged. Who is Haber working for? Certainly not Israel. This article is remarkably like something one might read in a Neo-Nazi rag.
13. What has Israel to be arrogant about..they've always been
Edithann ,   USA   (03.28.13)
the international losers..and they will again be losers in their oil and gas wet dreams big time!.. Israel wasn't smart when it attacked the Marmara loaded with humanitarian supplies...and It wasn’t smart when they insulted Turkey, while Ayalon met with Turkish ambassador Ahmet Oğuz Çelikkol, who was seated on a stool .....and while on stage insulted him in Hebrew...not too smart I would think! What's with all that arrogance? Who are they trying to impress with such foul behavior? What is the real meaning of arrogance? Look it up..it's a cover for very deep feelings of inferiority. Thinking others are impressed by such behavior is too stupid for words...Scorched Earth Sarah B. should already know that...but she's convinced her audience is as stupid as dirt and she's right! However, her job is to keep posting BS lies and propaganda so eventually you’ll all march in lock step with her over the cliff and into obscurity…There is no future for Israel...so best to make plans...Fear isn't an answer to anything..except more fear... TATA. ...
14. Erdogan
Al ,   Brooklyn NY   (03.28.13)
The time has come to stop apologizing for our existence. It is out fundamental right. Why does he not mouth his ignorance vis-a-vis the untold thousands of murdered Syrians on his body. One million displaced persons, Mr Ignorant Prime Minister, what are you doing to further assist these person in distress? Lofty dreams,no purpose, no economy, just mega stupidities all along the way. I guess when intelligence was being handed out he heard trains and got off at the wrong stop.
15. few against many is turkey's modus operandi
american american ,   istanbul, turkey   (03.28.13)
every day turks complain that the entire world is against them. please don't forget that when turkey's army tried raise 50,000 professional soldiers only 1,500 signed up.
16. SArah # 4 A+ thanks.
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (03.28.13)
17. # 4 Turkey's combat experience
fred ,   USA   (03.29.13)
Since WW1. That experience came from their Turkish Brigade who saved the American Second Divison when they were surrounded by the Communist Chinese during the Korean war. With great lost of life these men opened a hole in the encirclement that allowed men from the Second Division to escape and fight another day. The Turks earned a reputation as fierce fighters in that war. On the other hand Israel has only fought Arabs in all their wars which means they have a misguided measurment of their worth as combat soldiers,
18. Refreshing to see another approach ,...
split ,   US   (03.28.13)
Get ready for scoffing and abuse ,...
19. #4 - Turks haven't been battle-tested ,...
split ,   US   (03.28.13)
Where did you get tested, fighting sheepherders, bombing residential buildings, Palestinian beach goers or lost mentally challenged kids wandering a bit too close to your 'fence' ? ,...
20. This Op-ed has no point.
Ari ,   Israel, USA   (03.28.13)
This writer is in desperate need of an editor. There is no point to this article. Aside from that, the facts are wrong. Turkey (the "empire") needs NATO to station 20 year old Patriot batteries to protect against Syria. Israel stations it's own Iron Dome systems that are way better. Turkey ( the "empire") had one of it's jets shot down by the Syrians. Israel rules the skies. But what does any of that have to do with the fact that their prime minister is an ignorant Islamist twitt who will eventually overplay his hand not just visavi Israel, but the US and even Europe as well?
21. I am getting fed up with Y-Net.
Mike Lumish ,   Oakland, CA, USA   (03.29.13)
Every time that I come to these pages your writers are excoriating the Jewish people in one way or another, usually as racists. Look, anti-Semitic anti-Zionists, whether in the Middle East or Europe or the United States do need your help in undermining the well-being of the Jewish people. On the contrary, they are doing quite nicely on their own. What the hell is wrong with you?
22. I doidn't even read this opus, headline says everything.
leo ,   usa   (03.28.13)
Not much more to expect. BTW, when it comes to Erdogan Israel can do no right, so, Mr. Haber, stop wasting your and our time.
23. "Israel's arrogance and boastfulness"
A ,   Belgium   (03.28.13)
In essence, meaning, we will not allow our little country to be destroyed, even by the mighty Turkish "empire". I am sure a defense minister of quality would have given 2 warnings and than sunk the terrorists' boat. Luckily for Turkey, they had Barak. And how does this writer equate "megalomania" with "survival"? What is this moslem obsession with pushing Israel in order to make her strike back, and get those cameras ready, journalists! Rockets from gaza, rockets from Iraq, rockets from Lebanon, and "political activists" from Turkey. And Israel acts with restraint, Israel tries not to hurt civilians (even when rockets are fired from schools and hospitals), and its not enough. It's about time that Israel raised its collective middle finger to the world and said...maspeek.
24. Israel is sadly a unique nation
Tom W ,   USA   (03.28.13)
There is not a single country on earth which is so full of self-loathers, wannabe kapos, enemy-worshipers, collaborators and other wretched souls than Israel. I challenge any poster to name a nation which longing for its humiliation and defeat, where the media is awash of daily poisonous self debasement. As an individual who was born in a ghetto in E. Europe during the Holocaust cant help but to behold the "immovable ghetto spirit" from some of the writers published here. Repulsive, despicable people...
25. Attack of the Killer "B"s
Axim ,   NY   (03.29.13)
I would like to take a moment to defend Sarah B. While my friends insist she routinely obscures the truth to our fellow Talkbackers, I, for one, have no doubt that she is a jet-setting lawyer, wife, and mother of three. And I would like to thank her for devoting so very much of her precious time to reading and commenting on the articles on Ynet. And the fact that she so often reads (polices, some might say) the Talkbacks makes her time management seem even more impressive. Additionally, I would like to thank her for the near daily laugh I get when I see the term 'ersatz "palestinian"'. No doubt a highly educated lawyer like herself knows that term is equivalent to "fake, fake palestinian". I am certain she is familiar with the idea of a double negative. Therefore, I can only assume she does so on purpose. Good show! Keep the laughs coming, Sarah B...and don't neglect your legal "arguments"!
26. Agreed
zetzky   (03.29.13)
Very informative and insightful article. Thanks for sharing.
27. ISREALI army
ISREAL ,   ISRAEL   (03.29.13)
