2. protecting holy sites
sam paris ,   cincinnati, usa   (03.31.13)
By the same token, I think Israel should be granted protective custody over the pyramids. We did, after all, build them and they are a significant part of our history.

11. So much hypocracy
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (03.31.13)
If I recall, when eastern Jerusalem was under the rule of Jordan prior to 1967, Jewish sites weren't protected at all...Since the 6 day war, Israel has allowed everyone to protect their own sites as they see fit which they did not have to do...This despite people throwing rocks from above the Western Wall after they finish praying at the Dome of the Rock.
12. Curious that when Jordan was in charge of the "West Bank" ..
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.31.13)
... they did a lousy job of protecting Christian sites. And Jewish sites? Most of those were destroyed. It's only been under Israeli sovereignty since 1967 that *everyone's* sacred sites are protected and accessible. The one exception, of course, being the Temple Mount where "sensitivity" to Muslim sentiments was allowed to trump Jewish access.

It makes much more sense than collectively throwing out your native culture for a dumbed down version of someone else's and than deifying a member of a that group
16. Jewish sites
Anshel ,   Canada   (03.31.13)
It is high time to demand explanation, regrets and full compensation for the willful destruction of the Jewish sites during the illegal annexation of the Old City and other part of the eastern part of Jerusalem, by the Jordanian kingdom (therefore, under their custody Enough of the "one way" demands!!!
17. There goes to show Jordan is the land of Palestinians

20. Actually this is not so bad
Chris Rettenmoser ,   bayerisch Gmain Germ   (03.31.13)
If you have in mind that Jewish sites will be under Israeli sovereignty.. let the Arabs finance their neighborhoods..
21. Good! Christians have been suffering under israeli
Good News.   (04.01.13)
oppression. Both Christian & Moslems have been forced to support judaism.
22. Israel Jordan Peace Treaty sets the borders
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (04.01.13)
The borders between Israel and Jordan are set in the middle of the Jordan river, the Yarmouk river and the Dead Sea. Jordan does not have sovereignty in any part of Jerusalem. Jordan cannot make agreements with a non-state actor which would contradict its peace treaty with Israel. The peace treaty only acknowledges Jordanian historical connection with the Temple Mount, without giving Jordan any sovereignty over the Temple Mount.
23. they should vow to protect Jerusalem for themselves.
jerome marks ,   basalt, colorado   (04.01.13)
jordan did a real great job protecting Jewish holy sites when Jerusalem was under occupation by jordan.

25. Protecting holy sites from what?
Israeli 2   (04.01.13)
Question #1: What "holy" sites? Question #2: From what? Question #3: How? Question #4: Have they volunteered to be the guardians of Israel? Question #5: Does ISRAEL allow them?
26. Act of aggression.
Jules   (04.01.13)
Since Jordan has no sovereignty over Jerusalem, and since Israel declared Jerusalem as her eternal capital city, the event described in the article is an act of aggression against Israel by Jordan.
27. Adam #8 it is called witty sarcasm

28. Israel's capital, Jerusalem, has been a single city...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.01.13)
...throughout its more than 3,000 year old history, but for 19 years, 1948 to 1967, during which parts of it were conquered illegally and held by its Muslim-Arab conquerors. It is amusing that these Muslim-Arab leaders attempt to recreate those 19 years of illegal conquest, and Jerusalem is not even being held by them. In fact, it ought to be mentioned that Jerusalem, also known as Zion, has never been the capital city of ANY people since it was set up as such by the Jewish king, King David, as the spiritual and administrative center of his kingdom and of the Jewish people. Now, how is it wrong to "Judaise" the Jewish people's capital city while no other people, none, has ever considered it but a dusty small town in a far away corner of the world?
29. This is akin to France and Turkey deciding the fate of
Anat   (04.01.13)
the opera building in Berlin.
30. Unfortunately, the people on this forum don't seem to see
a ,   canada   (04.01.13)
the larger picture. This is a prelude to Palestinian moves to have eastern Jerusalem as their capital and land. When the subject comes up, they will trumpet out this agreement to show just how responsible and committed they are to protecting Holy sites. ( Too bad they don't include Jewish holy sites. Oh I forgot that there are no Jewish sites according to their philosophy.)
