dan ,   usa   (04.03.13)
I have studied advanced physics in university and torah, and I found by far more difficult the torah study ... Have you tried studying torah? talk about what you know ....
32. to #2 Larry in Los Angeles
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (04.03.13)
that is the master plan. The hareidim will have a civil war amongst themselves, leaving the true Hebrew people as the winners. Now, get your butt out of the Third World Shite-hole known as LA and come here.
33. #27 There are no exemptions for seculars!
Ze'ev   (04.03.13)
34. #1 Of course it's discrimination!
Madeleine ,   i   (04.03.13)
When non-haredim - secular or religious - receive 3-years of financial assistance to study at universities or colleges, then you can say it's not discrimination. Why should the haredim recieve financial assistance for th eir 3 years when we - and hundreds of thousands of parents like us - had to pay full fees for each of our 3 children's 3 years of study, children who all held down jobs while they studied in order to help support themselves. Please tell me why haredi men should be given even one agora for this?
35. OK - Do seculars get the same treatment?
Gracey ,   Israel   (04.03.13)
Thougt not. Once again the troublesome Haridim are getting something. What about a secular 18 year old gifted student? does HE not get to serve as well? So happy I didn't vote for Bennett, I'm sure he has another agenda now his foot's in the door.
36. #24 Ora
Madeleine ,   Israel   (04.03.13)
No, we seculars are NOT against torah studies. We are against full-time torah students who spend their lives in the kollel, and are paid to do so by the state, becoming parasites. You can study torah and still hold a job - part-time or otherwise - and earn a decent living. Grow up, woman.
37. @ Ora - which elements?
Shalom Hartman   (04.03.13)
Face it - 1800 will be chosen from protekzia. Who is going to draft Rav Steinman's great-grandchildren, over the sephardi children of baalei t'shuvah down the street?
38. never heard of scholarships
avi ,   jerusalem   (04.03.13)
every year a limited top number of students get scholarships for universities....you don't think that there is protectzia in this also??? step back from the heredi hate speech and see things in perspective
39. Ora's demagoguery
Ehud   (04.03.13)
100% of 18 year old haredim will receive excellently paid scholarships (4500 NIS) for 3 years while 100% of 18 year old non-haredim can be drafted to serve in the army for a mere fraction of what the hared boys are being paid (300-600 NIS). How is this not discrimination?
40. Completely disappointed! Again discrimination!
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (04.03.13)
41. #15 Haim
Shua ,   jerusalem   (04.03.13)
You're right! This is an insult to the tax paying, hard working IDF serving Haredim who pay a large amount of tax so the elite Tel Avivians can dodge the army and no one will say boo about it. What are you going to complain about when the Haredim decide to serve, get job training and get jobs? That now they are taking over the job market, and there are no jobs for the secular? That by default the army will become more religious? If you want to intergrate them into the system then you first need to be sensitive to their lifestyle. Whether you like their fairytales or not that is what they live by. You can't have the cake and eat it too!
42. 37 Shalom In the Haredi world...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.03.13)
the first criterium is being a Talmid Hacham. My son is a Talmid Hacham Baal Teshuva,he married the daughter of a Great Rav and his daughter married a great son of Rav Eliyashev Z'L Great sons from Great Ravs if they are not Talmidei Hachamim are not considered and won t receive any protekcia, believe me.
43. 39 The amount of money going to...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.03.13)
secular cultural organisations is much bigger than that to orthodoxe ones, with the difference that, at the orthodox the money goes directly to the students. Not to beautiful buildings nor expensive professors. 4500NIS? I don t know anybody who receives that. Please give details and your sources.
44. what happens after they finish the Military Service?
Shai ,   Haifa   (04.03.13)
I do not understand what will happen with the haredi soldiers after they finish their Military Service? Shai
