Based on US interests in Turkey, and Obama's "great friendship" with Erdogan, Obama's pushed for an apology from Israel for years. (He knows he'll get nothing from Turkey.) The basic message is "Just get it over with". Well, Israel finally gave in. And what did it get for its troubles? Nothing but the same demands from Turkey, and an increasingly arrogant Turkey, proud that it "humiliated" Israel.

NATO cannot tolerate a fence-sitting nation, let alone a nation that is interested in improved ties with Iran. Turkey's economy is in dire straits. The shipyards and drydocking yards in Iskenderun lie empty and rusting -- they used to be bustling operations. Turkey's increased ties with Iran have made it the subject of collateral sanctions. Erdogan has led his country to the brink. Let Turkey fall into the abyss. No great loss. They're just not ready to join the civilized world in the West. We can always revisit the issue in a decade or so.
