The chicken/egg puzzle is not nearly as interesting as analyzing the acrimony between chilonim and chareidim. The abhorrence is the same on both sides. Whose fault is it? Who started it? Maybe, just maybe, it is both sides' fault equally. If it were a chareidi dignitary, you can be sure that the cafes in Chaifa would resound with "Great. Another Chareidi." So get off your high horse and accept the reality and inevitability of verbal polarization in Israel. I think it melts away in times of real need, but that might be just a fantasy.
