1. The problem is Abbas
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.09.13)
The jackass actually seems to think that Israel should forget about the fact that it has emerged victorious in six wars, all of which were started by the Arabs. The pompous terrorist actually thinks that Israel Should simply forget about seven decades of unremitting Arab terrorism and violence. Well, sorry. No can do. The vanquished are -- well -- vanquished. They do not get to set terms and conditions or make demands. They get whatever crumbs Israel may very generously deign to toss their way -- or they make do with nothing, which is exactly what they deserve. They should have taken the deal in 1947 .... but they didn't, did they? They have always been -- and continue to be -- the sole architects of their situation. At some point, someone needs to teach them that if you make decisions, you own them -- no matter who ill-thought; no matter how poor those decisions may be. In the case of the ersatz "Palestinians," those decisions have been disastrous. But that is hardly Israel's fault, and Israel should not be required to fix ersatz "Palestinian" mistakes. Some things are forever.
2. Goodwill Gesture? PA, STOP FUNDING TERRORISM!!!
Laura   (04.09.13)
3. Do those Peaceniks never understand -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (04.09.13)
- the so called Palestnians dont want Peace, they want Victory. If they wanted Peace - Peace had been for a wery long time now. Their Demands show they dont want Peace but Victory. Nr 1 has the point. Arn.Sweden.
4. And just what is THEIR trust building gesture?
Shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (04.09.13)
5. An idea for an Israeli "goodwill" gesture
A ,   Belgium   (04.09.13)
Repatriation of all "palestinians" holding Jordanian passports, including those whose citizenship was revoked by the Jordanian government, to their homeland in Jordan/"palestine". Israel annexes Judah and Samaria. Arabs are united with their "palestinian bretheren" in Jordan/ "palestine", and Israel has a secure eastern border without terrorist centers such as Ramallah, Kalkilyah and Jenin. Everyone wins.
6. Goodwill
Joe ,   Israel   (04.09.13)
Israel has made many gestures of goodwill. We are still waiting for the "Palestinians" to make similar gestures. So far, they have only proven themselves to be liars. They have not kept any agreement that was made with them. Why should Israel trust them this time. They want peace? Prove it!
7. To: Joe at No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.09.13)
Aha! You have alighted upon the crux of the problem. The ersatz "Palestinians" are not in the least bit interested in peace, or peaceful coexistence. They are interested exclusively in supplanting Israel. Knowing that they are congenitally incapable of building anything, they want everything that Israel has painstakingly -- and painfully -- built. Israel cleared swamps in the north, and pushed back the desert in the south. Israel is the ONLY agriculturally self-sustaining country in the entire Middle East. Not magic -- just hard work. Cleverness. Education. The ersatz "Palestinians" are jealous. They seek to acquire, not to work hard. Typical ersatz "Palestinian" calumny, but what else can one expect from that violent and terrorist rabble? Kick 'em to the curb. Let them make their own way -- for once.
8. Funding
Steve Grumman ,   Tucson, AZ, USA   (04.09.13)
Perhaps the best way for America to induce Palestine and Israel to get serious is to trim its massive dole outs to both entities.
9. To No. 1
Bertram ,   London, UK   (04.09.13)
Although I think it is often dangerous to draw historical parallels the Allies took a 'vanquished' stance towards Germany following World War One. I think Germany took it rather well, don't you?
10. Oh COME ON!
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (04.09.13)
Surely we are grown up past 'gesture politics' You scratch my back then I will scratch yours You apologise for this then Ill apologise for that You show me two fingers and Ill show you three These are gestures. Nobody in the West Bank cares about gestures! What we want to see is meaningful talking, meaningful changes on the ground and meaningful results
11. It's not about peace......
tiki ,   belgium   (04.09.13)
It's about building a legacy for Obama! And after that? What if it fails? Who cares!
12. to Sammy #10
Marcelo ,   Tlv   (04.09.13)
how you exactly know what people in Yehuda and Shomron want if you are sitting in Newcastle?? take a plane to Israel, live here so you can start dealing with proposals and get known what people want...in the mean time, open a beer and discus your sexual life at a bar with the bartender, but not about Israel....
13. let them make a good will gesture
ma nishma ,   modiin   (04.09.13)
Since when are we required to be the goody goodies? Let those @#$!#@ Arabs for once do something to show they want peace, like arresting rock thrower, stopping the illegal building, protecting Israeli cititzens, and opening up their areas and safe guarding visitors. Then maybe we can talk about peace, but until then, it is only us giving and them taking.
14. Peace talks, by all means: talks that would lead to Peace-
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.09.13)
for-Peace, now. But, nowhere in history has the party that initiated the war - the Arabs in this case - and lost the war, would also dictate the terms for peace. At the most, such terms ought to be negotiated, directly and without ANY preconditions. P.S. Any accommodation of peaceful coexistence ought to be based strictly on the fundamental elements of international law designed for this purpose, i.e. San Remo conference, 1920; League of Nations decisions, 1922; UN Charter, Article 80, 1945; and, UN Security Council Resolution, 242, 1967. And, at the end of the process the Palestinian Arab leadership ought to accept Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the SOVEREIGN NATION-STATE OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE,; and, to accept a peace treaty as THE END OF THE CONFLICT AND ALL OF FUTURE DEMANDS.
15. To: No. 9
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.09.13)
I think Germany took it even better following World War II. Your point? Shall we encourage the Poles to restore East Prussia to the Germans? How about Istria? Should we demand that Croatia restore Istria to the Italians? And let us not forget that the United States considers 90 percent of Okinawa to be United States soil. It houses Fort Buckner. I'm all about precedent. I think countries should be made to follow it. And -- unless and until -- the Poles restore East Prussia, the Croatians restore Istria and the Americans restore Okinawa .... well -- why should Israel have to restore anything to six-time vanquished Arabs? Do you really wish to set international law and precedent on its ear, Bertie? Are you TRULY that stupid and ill-informed? Did not Israel win six wars, all started by the Arabs? The vanquished are the vanquished. Whether they like it or not. And -- I might add -- that were it not for the British, the Germans would have been kept in their place following World War One. I guess you just had too many royals and members of the British -- cough -- "aristocracy" -- uncough -- for common sense to prevail. Then again -- the British have never been known for exercising common sense. You're a convenient shill, Bertie. How sad for you. Take a hike.
16. Kerry might be new on the picture, but that's about it
jrebecca ,   modiin   (04.09.13)
Only other thing that's new is new demands from Abbas. If the Arabs cant come up with anything new, I think it's time we followed Bennets NEW plan, and deal with this from a new viewpoint. Start annexing Area C. The longer the Arabs take to talk, the more we annex and the more is "off the table".
17. Once again gestures, free concessions in return for nothing
Sam ,   Canada   (04.09.13)
The US is hurting the process more than helping it. All the Palestinians want from talks is free concessions in return for nothing because they don't want to accept a Jewish majority Israel. Along comes Kerry and the US and pushes Israel to give Palestinians free concessions. What incentive is there for Abbas to concede when he's getting it all on a silver platter? The US appears to be too naive to do the job.
18. Why should the Palestinians
Moragh   (04.09.13)
seek PEACE. Israel is NOT their Land and never has been. The more I read my Encyclopaedia, the more the present situation looms up loud and clear. Those Pali troublemakers needs to shut the Hell up. There is plenty other small countries in the world ... why don't they move there. If they are so certain that they are loved and adored elsewhere, I don't know where the problem lies. Just stop and take a look at how big the Sahara Desert is, tons of land for the greedy Palestinians to help themselves. I think it is time that the Palis gave beloved Israel a break. I'm sure your arab neighbours will feed you. If it's trouble you're looking for, be my guest.... do you know how huge the Sahara is. I would like to have a little plot for my Caravan. I'm a peace lover, but not when old man Abbas constantly kicks up trouble... and more trouble. As long as the silly world keeps stuffing the millions into the pocket of old Abbas, the old boy sits tight and lets the millions fall exactly where he wants to see them. ..... in his Overseas Bank Account. It's long past time that the Palis woke up to their precious little Leader..... he's not for them, he's for himself..... and it sure looks like he's enjoying watching every BUCK that floats into his account. Waken up World!
19. #14. If I may make one correction
A ,   Belgium   (04.09.13)
All of your statements are fine, but instead of "Palestinian Arab leadership ought to accept Israel's RIGHT to be", I think it should be "PA leadership must announce before the United Nothings that Israel as the Jewish state is an undeniable fact." Abbas would choke before he finished the sentence, and even if he did, his hamas "brothers" would finish him. No loss.
20. #9 For an Englishman, you're pretty weak
A ,   Belgium   (04.09.13)
in modern European history. Germany was burdened with reparation payments from the Allies that they had no chance of repaying, their money became overinflated and useless, their economy collapsed, and the rest I think even you know. So what part did Germany take "rather well"?
21. THE MIDDLE EAST AND ASIA
SJOERD VAN DER VELDE ,   UNIVERSE/MULTIVERSE   (04.09.13)
IN THAT CASE THE SO-CALLED ''PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY'' AND THEIR FOLLOWING CAN BETTER GO TO JORDAN, A COUNTRY WITH AN ISLAMICAL, ARABICAL POPULATION OR EVERYWHERE IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD, FROM NOW ON IN THE YEAR 2013.
22. To No. 15
Bertram ,   London, UK   (04.09.13)
Predictably, in your lengthy diatribe, you miss my point. In using 'vanquished' you employ the language of ancient times when one side could overwhelmingly defeat the other - and that would be that. World War One destroyed all that in demonstrating that in the modern, global era, all wars have unintended consequences. To speak about 'vanquishing' another people in the 21st century merely highlights the vacuity of your supposed incisive mind. Instead of ridiculously banging on continually about 'the British' you might want to consider abandoning your Manichean view of reality and apply what remains of your intellect to an examination of the complexities of the Middle East. Believe it or not, like me, you are not the repository of 'the truth'. If think you are then you will go the way of all unyielding ideologues. You might sincerely believe that 'Palestinian' is a manufactured, 'ersatz' identity. So what? It exists, no matter how loud and shrill your voice is in denying its existence. The sadness is all yours, Sarah, old fruit.
23. @1
Rebecca Weinstein ,   San Diego, U.S.A   (04.09.13)
You mistakenly capitalized the word "Should" in the first paragraph of your talkback.
24. Wish for the sky the wait to grow wings.
Ilan   (04.09.13)
25. Concessions and goodwill gestures
Reuven   (04.09.13)
are viewed as weaknesses, to be exploited, by our enemies. Give them noithing!!
26. funny
rm ,   Amsterdan, NL   (04.09.13)
how upset pro-Israel supporters seem to get when there's talk about good will gestures... fact is Israel has all the power, while the palestinians have virtually none...yet this does, in the mind of Israel supporters not change the fact that it's the palestinians that have to be more on the giving side....
27. To No. 20
Bertram ,   London, UK   (04.09.13)
Quite so. My comment was ironic.
28. goodwill for what?
tiki ,   belgium   (04.09.13)
29. #26 Palestinians always trying to avoid the real issue
Sam ,   Canada   (04.09.13)
The poor Palestinians always present themselves as hopeless saints in need of free gifts. Peace means Palestinian and Jewish majority states not free gifts for Palestinians who want the door left open to destroying Israel. Palestinians have done little to deserve free gifts from Jews.
30. No!
mcleod ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.09.13)
It is time Israel said NO to Arab demands - Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley and the Golan Heights must be non-negotiable.
