1. Talk less, do more, train train train
Al   (04.16.13)
I never ask my kid what he is training on and with whom. I only ask if he is eating and taking care of himself. I also ask him to refrain from ever telling his mother anything that may worry her. The Army is a tough place and is meant to be the fighting dog of the country. Its not a band and a kumsitz.
2. "Under the radar" is fine, but military might has to be seen
tom ,   tel aviv   (04.16.13)
as well. Just like money: no point living like a beggar if you've got millions. Working in Gaza like a "surgeon" is pointless: they will fabricate stories of babies killed anyway, the so called "world" will lap it up & condemn the "circle of viloence". We may as well do the proper job of it from the beginning.
3. NO MORE FREE RIDES
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (04.16.13)
Haredim to the army post haste.
4. Trust in IDF First and then in GOD
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne - UK   (04.16.13)
At a Time like this in our life - God Help us all - Israel is lucky today to have its IDF - Other nations only wish they can have same - So God give the IDF Strength to protect us and Protect Israel
5. We're contemplating wrapping enemy in plastic bags?
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (04.16.13)
6. The IDF is the State's army in which
Get Real ,   UK   (04.16.13)
all MUST serve
7. Haredim are Fawed but Precious
Zechariah   (04.16.13)
The Haredim they bring such nostalgia not the extremists but the Day to Day mass.To see them Populate after the Shoah under the protection of the IDF and in their belief they protect the IDF.But for their own good they need Armed Capacities and a Martial Consciousness as well as Piety .
8. #5 - No, plastic bags protect us
Frummernyu ,   Israel   (04.16.13)
9. thats the official government statement not army opinion
zionst forever   (04.16.13)
The army do not want the hared, it is going to cost them billions to absorb them and the days when manpower made a big difference like 1967 & 1973 are over. Benny Gantz is the politician in the army and if Bibi has told him to announce we need the haredi then it makes the whole thing more justifiable to the general public and the haredi nd not just a political move. Given the decision though he would say non haredi draft its to expensive and we don't need them.
10. ynet and haredim
mark ,   bet shemesh   (04.16.13)
Ynet vs haredim is getting a bit much. Yes, he did say something about haredim on the border, but he spoke about many real security issues that are more worthy of making it to the story title. Haredim =social issue. Iran, Gaza, hizbullah, third intifada, american military support, etc =real security issues worth focusing on.
11. Harideem, draft them all or cut their benfits
Haim ,   TA   (04.16.13)
No more free riders
12. A very comprehensive article,
ecr   (04.16.13)
too bad the headline is erroneous. He only speaks of the Hareidem at the very end and it is way out of proportion to the rest of the article as far as its tiny mention is concerned.
13. What about drafting the Arabs
Avrohom ,   Brooklyn ny USA   (04.16.13)
What about drafting the Arabs. Why pick on Chareidim and allow the Arab segment of the population to be free of service.
14. Gen. Gantz
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (04.16.13)
he seems like a good man and a very competent leader.
15. #13 Soon....
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.16.13)
Non-Jewish Israeli-Arabs are serving but in small number. There are no major out-reach programs that I am aware of. Lapin/Etid included non-Jewish Israeli-Arabs in his pre-election talks about education and "balancing the burder" but appears to have shelved that idea in order to reach an agreement on Haridi with BiBi and Bennet/ Obviously, as Israelis, they should be subject to the draft too although the idea of arming and training Israeli-Arabs scares the hell out of a lot of Jews.. . .
