31. change

As an 83 year old Jew who has experienced intermittent acts of anti-Semitism throughout my life, I can sympathize with Muslims who complain of mistreatment. My parents, who endured far more in the way of anti-Semitism than I did, taught me not to hate. My spiritual teacher and leader taught me to love all and serve all. But, how does one respond to the Islamic doctrine of "death to infidels", and the fatwas calling for death to Christians and Jews? And, how does one respond to the Muslims who refuse to renounce that doctrine and the fatwas? I have submitted many comments over the past years suggesting that Muslims should renounce the doctrine of death to infidels, and the fatwas, which have increased in frequency recently. The replies to my comments have generally criticized me for having raised the subject. Some replies have attempted to justify the doctrine as totally warranted. But, no replies have ever responded favorably to my suggestion that Muslims should renounce the doctrine. There is nothing that a Muslim, or a Christian, or a Jew can do today to change whatever occurred yesterday. But, we can change our lives today so as to affect what will occur tomorrow. For Muslims, I suggest that renunciation of the doctrine of death to infidels would be a welcome step.
