jack ,   netanya   (04.22.13)
Does it mean the that we need two army Are we getting NUTS.?
2. #1 No but you are!
Israeli ,   Israel   (04.22.13)
What do you care if the army opens a second charedi battalion? Everyone complains when we don't serve, and when too many of us serve!
3. Why?
Mark ,   London, UK   (04.22.13)
Maintaining a battalion leads to....higher salaries. Why is this? Who gets a higher salary?
4. #3 Charedi soldiers
Israeli ,   Israel   (04.22.13)
tend do get married at a younger age and therefore receive more more money. Many are also abandoned by their family and community and are considered 'lone soldiers'. I served in this unit as a lone soldier and received over 2000 NIS, most combat soldiers receive only around 750.
5. Israeli , Israel # 2
Arnold ,   Montreal-Canada   (04.22.13)
Forget about fools like him. As a Canadian of the Jewish faith I thank all the military in Israel from whatever their background. May you all be safe.
6. Heredi Battalions
Steve Gure USA ,   coconut creek, fl   (04.22.13)
I see a problem here. The heredi could be isolated even more . They are hard to train and become ineffective. They should be integrated and serve in the IDF with the rest of the Israelois.

When the law allows the haredi not to go into the army you moan about it being unfair. Now they are trying to enlist the haredi your moaning about it, I hate to tell you but your not going to be able to just make the haredi all move to New York or stay in Israel but give up their orthodox lifestyle. The only way you are going to get the haredii into the army is through units like Nahal Haredi which is attached to the Kfir Brigade ( a combat unit ) and combines yeshiva study with military duties. You try telling them that they are going to have to join the regular units which don't take their religion standards and culture into account and your going to have a national revolt on your hands. You want to spend millions to fill the prisons with tens of thousands of hared rather than criminals? You might not like it but you want to draft the haredi you got to be sensitive to their needs and culture.
8. It's America's fault; if they supported Israel more
Moshe Nuran   (04.22.13)
we wouldn't need to fill our ranks with religious Jews. It's a travesty that we should have to do this because of American anti-Semitism.

There is already battalion of Nahal Haredi and it works. It is attached to the Kfir Brigade and it combines military service with yeshiva studies. During the recent Gaza op Nahal Haredi were some of the reservists called up for the ground invasion that never came. Try put them into the regular units and your going to have an uprising because there is no way they will agree to join the army if it means they are going to be put in a unit which doesn't take into account their culture and needs as haredi. If we wanted to lock them all up as punishment for refusing to serve we would probably end up filling the prisons. If they are organised the hared can be a very powerful force and if Israel were to have a civil war it would probably be between religious and secular Jews not with the Israeli arabs.
10. I dont understand what the fuss is all about
Al   (04.22.13)
My younger kid is as frum as can be. He serves in the tank corp with all kinds of kids. He tells me quite simply. Its the Army. Its not a play ground or a yeshiva. Its all business and everyone has eachothers back. They depend on eachother to survive. My son says his prayers. No one asks others to pray if they do not wish to. They all eat the same lousy tuna fish smeared with dust. Question to the orthoquack.. How friggin kosher does tuna have to be? If the orthoquack were truly frum, they would help build the army and get on with the business of protecting the country.
