1. Where in the Halacha ?
Jay Abouaf ,   Jaffa Israel   (04.26.13)
.Where in our Halacha is it forbidden for non-jews to be buried with jews?
2. Even the dead can't escape the tyrrany of Rabbis
SG ,   Teaneck   (04.26.13)

5. His son was a soldier of Israel, I choose 2 honor ...
Terror Survivor ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
the memory of both the son and his father. As a widow, a survivor of terror and a daughter of the house of Israel, I call on my right as stated in Exodus 22: verses 22-24, on behalf of this family I stand before the Throne of the G-d of Israel and call to the Merciful and Mighty Jewish G-d to treat these Rabbis, and the Chevra Kedesha involved according to the invocation in these verses. And I beg the House of Israel to remember that ALL SOLDIERS OF ISRAEL IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR PERSONAL RELIGIOUS STATUS MUST BE HONORED!
6. The drugged, religious masses are entitled their wishes
tom ,   tel aviv   (04.26.13)
both in life & death. It is about time (actually long overdue) for the sane majority to get that very same wish granted: Live& die as we please, without having to jump through the hoops: like getting married in Cyprus or being burried at a kibbutz cemetery....It is not only disgusting, it is simply embarrasingly silly & unbecoming for a 21-st Century, enlightened society.
7. The Rabbis disgust me to the nth degree
Al   (04.26.13)
No small wonder we traditional and secular Jews are completly disgusted by the ulta orthoquack,. They are indeed despicable. The son died as a hero for Israel. The Father bore that grief to his very last day. The ulta orthoquack who do sweet fuck all for the state are allowed to control the emotions of the people. THAT IS DESPICABLE.
8. yes it is halacha
Larry ,   LA   (04.26.13)
it is well known. it is a shame that people make issues about it, but it has been like that for many many centuries.
9. Draft ALL of the sons & daughters of this so called rabbi...
(04.26.13)
Let his children defend him.
10. a hesedful blessing on the head of Mayor Jackie Sabag....
(04.26.13)
now the army should move the soldier so that the father's wishes are fulfilled.
11. @8 cite it chapter & verse
W. Turner ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
go from the Bible (Tanach) thru to the Talmud. Don't just say it is halacha support your answer. And while u r at it provide a halachic basis for: 1. interment of Shomer Shabbos observers in a separate plot from non-Shomer Shabbos Jews. 2. interment of women in separate plots from men 3. shaming a family of gerrim (strangers) at the time of the death of the head of their family. 4. not honoring the memory of a soldier of Israel. Come on now get to work Larry in LA halachically prove all of this. Don't just skank out of it by saying yes it halacha!
12. Non Jewish Russians should not waste their lives in the IDF
Mordechai   (04.26.13)
How stupid can these Russian gentiles be. Don't die for Israel that is not your country. You belong in your country not Israel. Why die fighting someone elses war. Jews never agreed to be in the Russian army, non Jews should not agree to be in the Israeli army. Just as Jews move to israel its time for the Russian gentiles to go to Russia.
13. Sure! The world believes the jews are not prejudice--NOT
Jim   (04.26.13)
14. The ugly face of Judaism.
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (04.26.13)
Actually, its heart and brain are probably even uglier.
15. The Zealots are back to destroy Israel again
John Phee ,   Sydney AUSTRALIA   (04.26.13)
Read the inglorious acts of the Jewish Zealots in Josephus the Jewish Wars. This is what is returning & Israel has much to fear from their perverted "man made" interpretations of the Torah. Are these the same rabbis that oppose the draft for the "religious".
16. Not halacha
Bryan ,   New York   (04.26.13)
This is not halacha. The Talmud only forbids "burial of the wicked with the righteous" (Sanhedrin 47a), which has been interpreted by authorities to forbid burying Jews with non-Jews (though it likely referred to idolators). But the Talmud also states that Jews should bury "heathens" for the sake of maintaining peace (Gittin 61a). Certainly someone who lived in Israel and raised a Jewish child who defended the state with his life should be considered righteous.
17. to #8
iselin ,   Oslo, NOrway   (04.26.13)
Just because it has been like that for centuries does not mean that it is right and just. In these intervening centuries, people have found cures for polio and other diseases. The ultra religious take advantage of these medical breakthroughs. Why do they have a cafeteria approach to life. Just because they believe in fairy tales?
18. SHAME ON YOU!
doda ,   israel   (04.26.13)
19. Amen!
doda ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
20. Seperate state from religion end their evil rule
Haim ,   TA   (04.27.13)
Even in death the religious bigots get to say how we bury our dead, these so called rabbis are discusting and dont give a damm about the grieving family, time to seperate state from religion and let the people decide for themselves.
21. #12 FYI
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.27.13)
In WW2, Jews were happy and proud to be in the Russian army, fighting the Nazis. Jewish Russians are Jews...and also Russians.
22. Reform Judaism is the only way
Jewish Goy ,   South America   (04.27.13)
and it's necessary. Stop haredim fanaticism and racism! They don't serve the country, so what? Go Reform, Conservative Judaism, like most of American Jews today. Do it. Better for you.
23. Burial
Harold F ,   Signal Hill USA   (04.27.13)
These rabbis are cruel, inhumane, and callous. They have no moral authority over anyone.
24. To # 5
Abu Yussef al Yahudi ,   Bue_Aires-Argentina   (04.27.13)
Lady, I was deeply impressed by your excellent and clever post. I beg that Hashem bless you a lot !! Shabat Shalom
25. That MAY NOT BE! I could BARF!
Ze'ev   (04.27.13)
Slowy Im fed up with the israeli way of judaism! Its only a big fat SHANDA!
26. Yes, this sad story is disgusting
liz   (04.27.13)
This poor family should not have been given the "run around" on the day of their Father's funeral, it is very sad, and I feel for them. BUT even though the authorities in this story behaved badly and inconsistently, the true culprits here are the Jewish Agency, Absorption Ministry (run by Russians for the past xxx years) and the Interior Ministry who turn a blind eye to the thousands of non-Jewish Russians who made "alyah" according to the Law of Return, without requiring that they convert to Judaism. If people choose to live in this country and expect to have equal rights (which includes Jewish burial rights and marriage rights) then they should convert. to Judaism if they want to be treated as Jews. On one hand we Jewish Ethiopians (who had followed their kind of Judaism for thousands of years) who arrive in Israel and are forced to undergo conversion and given Israeli names (coz no-one can bother to learn to pronounce their Amharit or Tigrit names) and on the other hand we have non-Jewish Russians, who make no claim to be Jewish, don't convert to Judaism, have totally Russian names which we are all expected to learn to pronounce, who then complain when they are not allowed to be buried as Jews. Before people start complaining about double standards in the case of this poor family (and I DO feel for them in their grief) they should look at all the double standards with which immigrant communities are treated.
27. To 12.
Jewish Patriot ,   Galut   (04.27.13)
You are a troll or very confused ? They are Israeli citizens and unlike the parasite haredim (Long live Yair Lapid) THEY DO SERVE IN THE ARMY! Because they are also of Jewish ancestry, probably more than the haredim, and they had to leave Russia, and they contribute 100x more to the State of Israel! You know...not everybody is parasite...
28. liz thank u 4 the heartless lecture.
Israel ,   Israel   (04.27.13)
I understand from it that because you were treated unkindly you have every right to treat others with the same unkindness. Wow! I feel sorry for you.
29. #26 liz
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.27.13)
Thank you for your post. Much food for thought.
30. #28 israel
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.27.13)
That is not what she said. She feels for the Russians, but would like others to feel for the Ethiopians as well. Read again.
