1. More Proof That The Arabs Did Flee
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (04.26.13)
Glad to see that The Guardian, of all publications, is admitting that now.
2. Palestine 1946
Nils ,   Gibraltar   (04.26.13)
The jews always have been splendid fighters. Without the Holocaust and with jewish soldiers in the German armee, Adolf Nazi would have won World War II
3. #1 Fleeing in their thousands
Get Real ,   UK   (04.26.13)
And were they also not encouraged to do so by the Arab states who said they should leave to allow the Arab armies to attack and roll-over the Jews?

And never the twain shall never meet. The Brits hightailed it out of town when the Jews began to cost the Brits their lives. Seems only fair to me, the Brits didn't belong there in the first place and the Arabs in the second place. KEEP BUILDING !!!!
6. To: Nos. 1 and 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.26.13)
Yes, they did flee. Those that did not, are Israeli citizens, enjoying all the rights and privileges of citizenship, while not all of the responsibilities. Those that did leave -- well, they left voluntarily, and have no "right of return." "I changed my mind" is not a sustainable excuse. I'm glad the declassified records finally put paid to the spurious claims that the Jews forced the Arabs from their homes. What went unsaid, however, is that knowing that the Jews would prevail against the Arabs, the British, upon their departure, handed over all their forts and all their military equipment and materiel to the Arabs. Typical British calumny .... typical Arab ineptitude. Nice to know that nothing has changed ... or ever will.

yakov ,   nahariya   (04.26.13)
The issue is not whether they 'ran away' or were 'expulsed', the difference is mostly semantic, but rather whether they were allowed to return.
8. Britain illegally created Jordan out of Palestine Mandate
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (04.26.13)
They had no right to give this territory - 78% of the Palestine Mandate to the Hashemites. If there is a state to be called "Palestine", this should be it. It's 3 times bigger than Israel, including Judea & Samaria & only 20% of the approximately 4 million people there are Hashemites.
9. 1948 British report: Arabs will lose the war #6
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (04.26.13)
#6, Sarah, while I agree with you that many Arabs did flee, it wasn't so in every case, the village my husband lived in at the time (Birem) the villagers were thrown out by the Jewish, who promised they would return in 15 days, 65 years now have passed and they are still waiting, this didn't happen only to the people of Birem but to many villages. If they "enjoy" all the rights and privilges its because they all have worked very hard during their lives. In 1952 the supreme court ,doc 195/51 gave them the right of return, which ofcause never happen.

If you were an Arab, would you return to your enemy? I really doubt it.
11. The Brits had hoped for their Arab darlings, to
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.26.13)
win the war...they never came to grips with the Jewish victory !
12.  7 'expulsed'. HYSTERICAL!
(04.26.13)
What's your (illiterate) point? They had been attacking us upon our returning to the actual Jewish Homeland, once all local Arab tribal chieftains had fled after some jewish victories, the leaders of umpteen arab nations sent the Arabs here messages to flee, war was planned, and promised to "turn the sea red with jew blood" (that seemed reasonable to everyone). So, do you want them here now?
13. #6
Makina ,   New York, USA   (04.26.13)
Sara, if as you say "I changed my mind is not unsustainable excuse" then it equally, or more so, applies to Jews who are using it to "return" after the Romans threw them out, no? Apply the argument equally, and you see that "returning" after 2000 years is a lunatic rationalization. it's all about racism & Apartheid, it's undeniable. Enough!
14. Is this really news that warrants first headline position?
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
15. One big difference
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.26.13)
The terrorism of the Jews in those days was directed to military and political targets, and not to innocent civilians, women, and children like we see in "Palestinian" terrorism. This needs to be clarified!.
16. Jewish TERRORISM
Jason ,   USA   (04.26.13)
Jews used terrorism on a wide-scale to get their state--but you wont find an Israeli who will acknowledge that fact.
17. #13
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (04.26.13)
There is no Apartheid in Israel. The left wing use of the race card and Apartheid has been way over used and has gotten stale. When you throw out such terms at random you cheapen them and they lose their impact. It also makes you look foolish.

Jews are returning sweet home after 2000 years in exile. This is 1000000% JEWISH LAND for over five thousands years. Read Quran if you are Muslim, or read the OLD/NEW TESTAMENT if you are Christian.
19. To #15
Chris L. ,   Arizona, USA   (04.26.13)
You said that perfectly! By the way, american colonists must have been terrorist toward britains crown too I suppose by modern standards....We gave Britain the boot! And Sarah is right. UK did no favors for Israel. I'm sure they were hoping the Arabs would prevail. Even too this day they plot against Israel.
20. Elsie Gush Halav no 9
JUDAH THE LION ,   LION OF JUDAH   (04.26.13)
The Arabs did flee the Israel. They were promised by their brothers in the Arab world, they will back to Israel, after killing all Jews and throw them to the Sea. By the way, Jews were forced to leave Arab countries, and all the Jewish properties, businesses, bank account, gold etc,. been confiscated. I am a refugee from an Arab country. Go and live in my house. I can give you the address. Right of return to Israel will never, repeat NEVER & NEVER & NEVER will happennnnnn !!!!!!!!!!!!!
21. re#6 Why wouldn't they flee?
Cali Lib ,   Los Angeles, USA   (04.26.13)
They were escaping Jewish terrorism, of which I'm sure you condoned, yet chastise the Palestinians for today.
22. #13 arab history isn't from Israel, it's from
Jerome ,   Basalt, Colorado   (04.26.13)
arabia in case you didn't know. Jews came back to there homeland to build a country. arabs use right of return for political prostitution to destroy a country. big difference! arabs wanting to make the sea red with Jewish blood is a bit worse than your made up racism an apartheid! but don't let the truth get in the way of your fake facts.

they show your ignorance and hate big time! I thought Dodo birds where extinct.
24. #17 Apartheid Not in Israel but in Palestine
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (04.26.13)
Gee Eaglebeak, tell me, how many Palestinian Arabs live in Ariel? None? Gee, why not? How many attend Ariel's "University"? None? Hmmm. Why not? How many new building permits have been issued to Palestinian-Arabs in Area C? Oi! Sorry Eaglebeak but If it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

Jews used force on the British mandate and Jews used to fight the British military. We never have harmed the British civilians. You can call the Jewish fighters whatever you want.
27. 1948 British report: Arabs will lose war.#6, right of reply
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (04.26.13)
#6Mr Judah the lion, clearly you did not understand my post, it is also clear that you have an extremist nature, it was not us that made you flee from your country of orgin, but now you know how it feels ,we are also not asking anything out of the normal since we live already in Israel, we will not take anyones land or house because the lands belongs to them.,and were given the right to go back.
28. "Jews support terrorism"
William ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
I think this statement is a blanket one devoid of actual context but not really a surprise since the Jewish population had been subjected to Arab terrorism and massacres for 26 years prior, with no protection from the British despite their claim of having policies against such violence. Must be why they rushed a British commander to lead Jordanian forces against the nascent Jewish State in 1948 but failed to mention their role in the genocidal campaign against the Jews.
29. #9 - Elsie, why not add context to give post more accuracy?
William ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
Yes, some villages were cleared by IDF forces - very few of them, not the thousands as Arabs claim. And many of those villages did infact host irregular fighters and aid in the war against the Jews. Not only did Israel have a ruling on right of return in 1952 but also agreed to such under UNR194 in 1949. However, under those agreements the Arabs had to promise to be loyal citizens and refrain from further aggression against the Jewish State. The Arabs flatly refused and the offer was taken off the table. Despite the 1952 ruling in the Supreme Court, a State is not legally required to accept hostile persons into its territory, even if they are remnants of war. And further, that right of return does not extend beyond the original persons who fled, meaning their extended families are not eligible as Abbas claims they are. Finally, Arabs were given equality under the law immediately, not from hard work. It was enshrined in law right after the 1948 war ended. While Israeli Arabs have worked hard as equal citizens, many among them abuse those rights in order to commit sedition and reject the rights of their fellow citizens.
30. #24 - I think you need to ask the question of Arabs
William ,   Israel   (04.26.13)
How many Arabs want to live in Ariel? None. Most oppose living in Jewish villages and they REALLY oppose Jews living in their villages. many leftists demand rights of Arabs to live in Jewish villages but also demand discrimination that keeps the same integration out of Arab villages - a clear case of hypocrisy and violation of human rights. How many Arabs attend Ariel? Alot! Many Arabs from both Israel and the surrounding "Palestinian" areas attend Ariel. Despite the tensions, many Arabs indicated they felt no tension on campus between them and their fellow Jewish students and faculty. Ariel college is a top-ranking school and many Arab graduates go on to have successful careers. How many building permits issued to Arabs in Area C? It's way more than none, but since its an area in dispute, its limited. But in Areas A and B, there are no problems. It seems in order to make it "look like a duck", you had to glue feathers on it and tape its mouth shut while you yell "quack quack". Sitting on a balcony and still can't see the forest for the trees.
