1. Bonfire. Not too many people would go to a bonfire if they
Rivkah   (04.28.13)
knew the origin of bonfires. Originally, it was called BONEfires, not bonfires. It was the burning of bones of those who were sacrificed to idols. Gives me the creeps to even think about a bonfire celebration. A carved pumpkin on a doorstep meant a person from that home had been sacrificed to idols (Satanic rituals).
2. Judean vs Jew
Alon ,   Tel Aviv   (04.28.13)
Here is some thoughts: Lets turn Lag BOmer into a national holiday witht a theme of Loving your People and increasing understanding and respecting the other. Lets start going back to our original identity which was not just a religious identity but rather a Culture, Civilization. We were Yehudim in Medinat Yehuda 2000 years ago. Lets adop the term Judean instead of Jew or Jewish.
3. Lag Ba´omer Sameach
daniela ,   panama   (04.28.13)
May the Light of the Torah brought down by the Rashbi illuminate all Am Israel.
4. What you teach your children
Ricky ,   The Bronx   (04.28.13)
These kids are taught that polluting the air(atmosphere) for 11 hours praising the life of a deceased jew is mereitous in the eyesight of a G-d that has to clean this health hazard 12 hours latter. Respect for the planet and others in Israel,,,,, not here. Hope no chemicallly treated wood is burnt .
5. Wrong about "bonfire" meaning and pollution!
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (04.28.13)
Bonfire is the word people use to translate the Hebrew word "Medura", but the meaning of "Medura" has NOTHING to do with the word bonfire, or bonefire, or burning bones. Better translations would be camp-fire, or large flame. To #4 - As far as polluting the air, lighten up a little (no pun intended). Sell your car, stop using buses and trains, and stop using plastic before you preach to people about pollution. Lighting a wood fire is about as natural as you can get.
6. #1 madura not bonfire
chaimke ,   upper galilee   (04.28.13)
totally different concept for those who detract from the day, it would be more correct to just say it is simply beyond your concept bank be careful not to disparage something you know nothing about. if you had even the slightest notion of who rebbe shimon bar yochai is or what goes on during lag b'omer you'd be dancing in the streets too.
7. 5&6 Ephraim & Chaimke: Read Jeremiah chapter 10 if there
Rivkah   (04.28.13)
is a Tanakh in your home which is read by you. It appears you may not be familiar with Scriptures since you are not familiar with HaShem's contempt of the misuse of His resources such as trees from which boxes come from. China would gladly pay for your paper waste material so you don't have to burn it in bonfires celebrating pagan rites you pretend are holy. What does Jeremiah chapter 10 tell you about the misuse of trees in cutting them down and decorating them for celebrations (similar to bonfires)? Jeremiah tells you that is an abomination to HaShem. An abomination. If trees are needed for heating homes or building or many useful things, then by all means cut them down and use them. But to waste trees and boxes from trees in bonfires is similar to XMAS trees being burned after being cut down to decorate them with the balls (testicles symbol) of Tamuz. When the traditions of men are contrary to the doctrine of Scriptures, then HaShem should be heeded if you want HaShem to send His shalom peace. If you prefer HaSatan's confusion and unrest, then by all means do things that upset HaShem. He will turn you and your community and your nation over to HaSatan.
