Israel has returned people who have crossed the border in the same manner and has even provided medical treatment to injured Syrians. Do you have anything better to do than read Israeli newspapers online and figure out a negative comment to write as far-fetched as it may be? Buddhaghosa, in discussing anger said, “By doing this you are like a man who wants to hit another and picks up a burning ember or excrement in his hand and so first burns himself or makes himself stink.” Visuddhimagga IX, 23.

I've lived in a Buddhist country for a few years. Buddhism doesn't impress me. It teaches that all the problems in the world comes from our wants (not to be confused with needs), that if everyone was satisfied with what they had, then there would be no problems. Can you imagine a world without blue jeans, computers, smartphones, organ transplants, aircraft...etc etc etc
4. unifil "humiliation"
tom ,   toronto, canada   (05.01.13)
i guess it doesn't occur to unifil (or the lebanese armed forces, laf), to actually carry out their obligations under resolution 1701, and disarm militias, to wit, hezbollah? not only would they feel good about doing their duty, but there would be no more cause for "humiliation".
5. #1 - actually, lucky Hizbullah didn't get there first
William ,   Israel   (05.01.13)
For sure this guy would have been tortured and held hostage for ransom, even though the Northern border of Israel has remained quiet for a long time. Can't say that about the Gazan border where terrorist-lead skirmishes continue to take place and the use of civilians to carry out attacks or test IDF often occur. I guess when Gazans rise up and say "NO" to the terrorists in their entity, they'll see more peace on the borders, no?
6. #4 - but most UN soldiers dont expect violence
William ,   Israel   (05.01.13)
They take this position as a UN soldier to act as peacekeepers because they can do so merely by their presence without any confrontation whatsoever. Many are there on an extended holiday, trying to pad their resume and getting the chance to buy goods at lower prices and export them back to their home country without duties, which I know many Finnish UN soldiers to have done in Lebanon. Look how quickly the Golan peacekeeping force pulled back when violence appeared. They're only good as peacekeepers when peace actually exists.
7. #3 - you lived there, but didn't learn a thing
William ,   Israel   (05.01.13)
The idea of "problems of the world resulting from our desires" is actually repeated in many other religions, including Christianity. Wanting is not a sin or violation of natural order by itself. It's allowing that want to drive such behavior where one becomes obsessed with, and lives for this want. Be it sex, power, money, or even jeans - if that want consumes your attention and drives such behavior, including jealousy, then it becomes detrimental. Everything is moderation. The desire to want is not bad in itself but rather when it becomes a substitute for love of our selves and our fellow man.

9. to tom # 4: thank Israel for LAF not able to do its job
anonymous ,   TX USA   (05.01.13)
After the 2006 war and till May 2008 there was a concerted effort by the pro-western elected gov to bolster the LAF strength in order to stand up to Hizbullah & render the LAF as sole defender of Lebanon. They sought arms & equipment from the US, France, Germany, Belgium & other friendly states, but Israel frenetically lobbied them not to help the LAF. And so the LAF was left weak and unable to stand off to Hizbullah military takeover of Beirut in May 2008 & defeating the pro-western elected gov camp. So tom it is not the Lebanese who want Hizbullah to stay as much as Israel does.

"... the Lebanese military regards the infiltration as a violation of UN Resolution 1701." But stockpiling weapons (whether by the Lebanese military or Hezbollah) is not a violation?
13. to # 12 Sarah B: get off the extazy pills.
anonymous ,   TX USA   (05.02.13)
Where does 1701 stipulates that the LAF is not entitled to stockpile weapons. I does address Hizbullah stockpile to be removed, but it actually requires the Lebanese army and its stockpile of weapons to be at the border. So stop sniffing your glue.
14. If they put him in jail....

Get ready for people to mourn him like Pollard if they rightfully imprison him for hopping the border. Hoping for an extradition.

Calm down anonymous, this is not the real Sarah B. Too bad you didn't elaborate on Hizbullah's violations while you were at it.

You are right. You would have to be of questionable mental stability to willingly "infiltrate" any Arab country

For someone who purports to live in Texas, your English is positively awful. 1701, oh unlearned idiot, stipulates a weapons-free zone in Southern Lebanon. That includes Hezbollah. It also includes the Lebanese (!) military, such as it isn't. Start sniffing some reality, oh fraudulent one. Israel can pound Lebanon pretty much whenever we want. Send your family north. To Tripoli. Everything else in Lebanon will cease to exist. You do realize that, don't you? If you don't, I suggest that you lay off all that Hezbollah hashish. Yes, we know about that, too. Imagine -- all those "pious" terrorists dealing in death. Who'd have thought?
