1. Low Information Voters
Arturo   (05.02.13)
"About one third of Americans neither heard not read about civil war" Obama voters
2. #1 hit on the real story here
Ed Stack   (05.02.13)
So many people are being killed daily. Chemical weapons were used in violation of international law. Why is it that 1/3 of Americans polled didn't know about this civil war. Where is the press? Where are all the protesters?
3. 36% is a large number
Mira ,   Vienna   (05.02.13)
for a socalled developed country! That makes one less wonder about their ignorance of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict!
4. #1 inaccurate
Benjamin Ben-Ari ,   Israel   (05.02.13)
There are plenty of ignorant Republicans whose sole focus is on America. This is simply the mentality of America where they don't know/care what is happening outside of their country that is isolated by two oceans.
5. Exceedingly unsurprised
Cameron ,   USA   (05.02.13)
No one here has any interest or desire for involvement in this Arab cesspool. Syria is welcome to devour itself.
6. Americans don't care about the middle east
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (05.02.13)
Americans are fed up with ethnic and religious strife. Americans just want to pay bills and live a simple life. You can place Syria on the front page, drop flyers out of the window or place them on there car windows and they still won't care or most importantly say it is not our problem to fix. If you ask the Israeli public to have a vote on whether to intervene militarily in Syria based on humanitarian grounds the percentage will be lower than 10 percent, so please leave us Americans out of this one. Get the Russians, Chinese or the Eurowimps to handle this one. Not one dollar or drop of "American" blood is worth that cesspool.
7. Just a moment
Nora Tel Aviv   (05.02.13)
When was the last time that the US won a war? Americans and their government are aware of that.
8. Not Our War
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (05.02.13)
Those who follow the Middle East recognize that Syria is not our war. The US objected when others threatened to intervene in our Civil War. Syria's Civil War is for Syria to sort out. The US is not the world police. Others can make their own choices.
9. But those 36 % for sure, know all about ALIENS...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.02.13)
Can anyone spell...M O R O N S ???
10. A lot of these rebels hate us anyway
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (05.02.13)
I see news of the civil war on the TV news but not much in the papers. I think it's also an issue that the American people are sick of trying to help in places where the people we try to assist hate our guts anyway. We try our best- maybe it's not perfect help, but we try- only to have these same people down the road burn our flag or harm/kill our military. We should be helping those seeking to develop democratic principles rather those wanting to replace dictators with those who also hate us.
11.  Sounding a touch bitter, #7
Cameron ,   USA   (05.02.13)
Israelis finally realizing we will not assume your Syrian burden and responsibility? Not for Israelis to speak of the business of winning wars these days. No, not after the Lebanese years, and the kiss Israel planted on the Hamas bottom as a reward for bombarding Israeli towns & cities.
12. Intervention?
Get Real ,   UK   (05.02.13)
I wonder what the results of the same poll would be if taken in Israel, assuming that the rebellion and/or the use of chemical weapons did not spillover into or threaten Israel.
13. @ 7 stupid comment..
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (05.02.13)
It depends on how you define victory. Was it the 30 days to capture Baghdad and eventually execute it's leader or push the Taliban out and finally kill Bin Laden. Yes that is victory, however when you try to pacify a people like Israel in Lebanon that would turn any quick victory into a war of attrition that I hope the American military and government has finally realized this reality. Iraq and Afghanistan was a test case of trying to pacify a Muslim state. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make em drink.
14. civil war in syria
miri ,   israel   (05.02.13)
It is time for the U.N. to step in and condemn Assad's use of chemical weapons and take action against it ! I do not blame the U.S. nor do I believe they alone should intervene. They've been in Iraq, Afganhistan (and still have troops there) and the costs have been heavy, both in lives and money !
15. the world became crazy
bdoe ,   rahat   (05.02.13)
and if anglina jolie got a baby how much people will know about it?
16. The Americans Are Tired Of Fighting Proxy Wars...
World Citizen ,   the world   (05.02.13)
For Israeli Hegemony In The Middle East So if you want to attack Syria or Iran go ahead. According to the armchair generals that frequent this site Israel has the muscle. I just don't think Israel has the will. Because will requires blood and treasure. And fighting real wars is not like shooting and bombing Palestinians.
17. #6&7...1945?
Steve ,   USA, IL   (05.02.13)
First off, there is no winner in War. Second, The last time the USA won a War...Hmmm well if there was ever a "Victory" in War it was probably when we saved the Jews from the brink of extinction by the Nazi's. When was the last time Israel shed any blood in the name of Freedom for anybody but itself? Israel wouldn't be on a map if it were'nt for the same USA you say doesn't care about anybody but itself. We've shed enough blood for everyone else. It's time for the USA to take a break and focus on itself and it's own problems for awhile before we take care of anyone else's Wars. While you're thinking about that maybe you should also think about who backs the majority of the money for your beloved Iron Dome that has already saved countless lives...
18. To: No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.13)
And were some of those chemical, biological and neurological agents find their way into the hands of al Qaeda operatives, and thence to the shores of the United States, will it be your war then? Do you think that al Qaeda -- which is rapidly emerging as the dominant force behind several of the Syrian insurgent groups -- has forgotten about bin Laden? Do you have any idea what a teaspoonful of botulin toxin dropped in an American reservoir would do? How about sarin gas released in a New York City subway? Weaponized anthrax or smallpox released in the Mall of America or Times Square? Do you really think that Syria is not your problem? Perhaps you might want to think it through again. The United States is target number one -- and possibly not only to the insurgents. Do not discount Iran's influence upon Assad. Both Iran and Syria consider the United States to be the Great Satan. And both are far too afraid of Israel to act against the Jewish State. They're not afraid of the United States. But the greatest risk to the U.S. comes from al Qaeda. If you think there is no threat, you are a fool. How hard do you think it would be to enter the United States with something small and easily concealed? And devastatingly lethal?
19. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.13)
Iraq is a mess and the Taliban is resurgent not just in Afghanistan, but in Pakistan, too. Yes, the United States killed bin Laden. Do you think that al Qaeda has forgotten that? By the way, the only American victories since the end of World War II have been in Grenada and Panama. Impressive stuff, taking on banana republics. Remember what happened to you in Somalia? Got kicked in the teeth by a handful of barefoot, primitive warlords armed with World War One vintage Garand rifles and a few rusty old RPG launchers. I don't know what you call it, but I think that most people would call that episode an extraordinary humiliation.
20. To: No. 16
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.13)
Oh! Do you mean the proxy wars that the United States has fought for the benefit of the Saudi royal family -- protecting all those palaces and all that oil (rapidly declining in international importance, by the way)? Israel has both the muscle and the will. We can drop the big one on any Arab or Moslem country that threatens us, any time. While the United States flounders in Iraq and Afghanistan, and makes a pathetic showing in Somalia. Libya didn't work out all that well, either, did it? Not to mention Tunisia .... Yemen .... Kosovo .... oh, the list is endless. Israel is not the target, idiot. The United States is the target. The U.S. should be grateful that Israel has its back. Even though the reverse is not the case.
21. Why intervene?
ariksan   (05.02.13)
Hizballah fighting Al Qaida. They are welcome to devour each other as long as it does not cross the border. No reason to intervene for political reasons. And if it is for humanitarian reasons why not the Arabs form an alliance first?
22. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.13)
Wrong question. How many people would care? Certainly not I.
23. #1 Actually
(05.02.13)
it looks more like Sarah Palin fans, dumb and egoistic.
24. #21 Agreed, and I do not think the US
Get Real ,   UK   (05.02.13)
should intervene in Syria; let the UN handle it. Nor do I feel Israel is desperate for the US to intervene. Israel, has had calm with Syria for 40 years and can take care of any threat arising from Syria, so I am surprised at all the comments about the US fighting a proxy war on behalf of Israel. Israel has always had to fight her own wars against hostile states seeking her destruction and will need to continue to do so to survive. #7 As for the US winning wars it depends how you define winning. I am sure most Israelis are thankful for the financial, diplomatic and military support the US gives Israel. So why is 'time to knock the US' creeping into these talkbacks?
25. @ 20 Are you joking?
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (05.02.13)
I admit that Iraq is a mess and Afghanistan will be worse when we do leave , however Lebanon is Israel's disaster. Israel has a terrorist organization that has 50,000 plus missiles aimed at it's throat and some soon will mated with chemical weapons because Israel is afraid to fight a real fight and would prefer to badger one of it's only true friend to fight a battle that it should of fought years ago in Iran and Lebanon and now Syria. You can say what you want but I assure you Al quada would never be aloud to station 50,000 missiles in Mexico or Canada or anywhere else in the globe no matter who says what. Now that's the difference between the US and Israel.
26. To "World Citizen" #16
Jake   (05.02.13)
I can guarantee you that Israel is not interested in seeing outside players involved in the Syrian Civil War, and in fact has repeatedly cautioned against outside involvement. Israel is just watching with satisfaction as Hizbullah fighters dispatched by Iran are getting blown to smithereens in Syria.
27. And when was the last time;
James ,   Arlington, Tex.   (05.02.13)
Israeli forces was deployed outside Israel in ANY International conflict? The American people are quite simply sick of spending money and blood being the police force of the world. Why invite trouble by getting involved with everything the Israeli government and people are afraid of. It is time for Israel to stand up and do something. And stop involving America in every problem they have.
28. To Sheikh #24, What do you mean "badger"?
Jake   (05.02.13)
How many times does ot have to be spelled out, that the Israelis did not ask America to intervene in the Syrian Civil War?
29. #27, Then tell Obama to keep his mouth shut
Jake   (05.02.13)
Why does he keep going on about "red lines" and "game changer"? Obama shouldn't make threats if he doesn't intend to stand by his words. He is making a fool out of America.
30. Steve, #17, you're addressing the wrong people
Jake   (05.02.13)
Israel is not Kuwait or Iraq or Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan. Not a single American fought or died fighting in Israel's wars. You are also well aware that the US did not fight in WW2 in order to save Jews. US joined WW2 only after it was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor. And you dropped the atomic bombs on Japan, not on Germany. In fact, the Allies refused to bomb the railroad lines to the concentration camps or to bomb Auschwitz. so you can drop the self-righteous pretenses. Your statement that the US provides most of the funding for Iron Dome is simply false. Current funding for the development and production of Iron Dome batteries involves an investment of $1 billion from Israel and $205 million from the United States. The initial funding was all from Israel.
