1. Yosef and Shteinman are sinners
Jay Abouaf ,   Jaffa Israel   (05.10.13)
of the worst sort.
2. This is about territorial warfare not religion
Israeli grandma   (05.10.13)
The fact that hordes of "haredi" including schoolgirls were bussed in to cause a riot at a site holy to all Jews is a disgusting misuse of people-power. Thousands of practicing Jews who regard themselves as "Haredi" are deeply disturbed by this type of demonstration. It is a hillul hashem, and only exposes us yet again to ridicule on the World stage. What possible harm can be caused to the most ancient and enduring faith of Judiasm by the wearing by women of ornamental shawls?
3. Haredi
Lorne ,   Tel Aviv   (05.10.13)
Haredi protestors are vile, the worst of the Jewish community. Committing chilul Hashem right below the Temple Mount.
4. Quick! Get the kid from "Deliverance"
Devorah   (05.10.13)
so he can play "Dueling Banjews."
5. Women of the Wall
Morris Y. Friedman ,   Rijswijk - ZH   (05.10.13)
So, what else is new? What did you expect from a section of our society, living by old, outdated rules, unwilling, or maybe afraid, to evolve, along with the rest of humanity. Basing their credo on the tenet that theirs is the only true way of believing! In my book that is equal to fanaticism, that will lead to even more strife, between secular and haredi! Who died and made them Kings over us, the secular majority? Jerusalem was reunited by the effort of the very entity they deny, Medinat Israel! I say, kick them back into their ghettos, and lock the gates!
6. WoW started this sinat chinam!
rachel ,   Home now   (05.10.13)
I am always amazed at the diversity of the women I have prayed along side at the Wall. NOW on Rosh Chodesh (a religous woman's special holiday) is being taken over by women who wish to strip the beauty of this female celebration for the rest of us! They want to pray like men. Ok. But do not just dress up once a month and call that religious equality. Start by laying tfillin, tfilot 3 time day, study, wearing talit katan and kippot every day. If you do these things even when there is no camera, then maybe I will respect you. But so far all I see is you pushing for attention NOT equality of prayer.
7. What right does anyone have to treat
Israeli 2   (05.10.13)
anyone else in this manner? This wall does not even belong to the 1st Temple. King Shlomo invited the whole world to Jerusalem - including women - in case someone forgot. There was even a mikvah for women build inside the confines of the Beit Hamikdash The only forbidden place was the Kodesh Hakodashim.
8. women of the wall
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (05.10.13)
although personally secular, i find the women of the wall to be provocative and disrespectful. their behavior is an extreme rejection of the torah.
9. #8: Why provocative and why disrespectful?
Israeli 2   (05.10.13)
Because they are secular or even Goish and not Orthodox Jews? I am an orthodox Jew but I follow the precepts and teachings of King David and King Solomon who would have today allowed even women of foreign land to pray and worship our G-d.
10. This Kotel Rabbi hurts the brain
Avi   (05.10.13)
11. The Jewliban strikes again!
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (05.10.13)
I personally despise religious fanatics, whether they are Jewish, Christian or Muslim or the sun or moon worshiper. I am not saying that I hate religion but these fanatics sure turn me away from it. Let the women pray, what is the big deal. Men and women should be treated equal period and end of story.
12. ...and the world just laughs...
miguel ,   israel   (05.10.13)
13. Haredim
Dov ben David ,   Eilat Israel   (05.10.13)
Haredim show that they are great fighters. Force them into our army!!!
14. This conflict will only get worse for as long as
Sage of the Age ,   World   (05.10.13)
you confuse Medieval Europe with ancient Mt. Sinai. That's as ignorant as confusing a 1st century Pharisee Rabbi with Hellenist Roman mythology (Christianity). Wake up and see the injustices of the fanatic European cults, their abuse and the suffering of fellow Jews at their hands. Torah forbids you from standing idly by the blood of your brothers.
15. antaganized or antagnizer: who is at fault?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (05.10.13)
who is to blame for violence? the antaganized or antagonizer? The ladies of the wall purposely did what they did knowing full well they would antagonize the majority of religious community. The result: people were very much antagonized and reacted to those ladies who asked to be attacked. Basically they got what they were looking for: a fight with the religious whom they hate more than our real enemies.
16. Plastic bags on planes, eye-patches, and now this!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (05.10.13)
Haredi fanaticism must be brought under control or Israel will end up like a Muslim country. The modesty police that already operate in part of Jerusalem will spread to other parts of the country and there will be calls for the Internet to be shut down etc. I manage a building in Arad and we have Haredi families in it and they are fine upstanding people, so not all are similar to the fanatics that wear plastic bags on airplanes, cover their eyes and their family's eyes with black patches and throw garbage at other believers.
17. Were men women separate in the temple
Shirley Temple-Mount ,   Jerusalem Juda   (05.10.13)
We are talking about the western wall of the holy temple. QUESTION: Did women hold separate services in the temple ? Did women wear prayer shawls in the temple? Over 2000 years did women wear shawls at the wall? Over 2000 years did women hold their own prayer services at the wall? . ANSWER: NO , NO , NO and NO This holy place has customs that have been observed for thousands of years. What right do the women of the wall have to change the Status quo ante? (which is Latin for "the way things were before")
18. Ultimate hypocrisy
Doug ,   U.S.   (05.10.13)
"Reform Movement: Haredi leaders 'desecrated sanctity' of Kotel" The entire purpose of your existence is to "desecrate sanctity".
19. Freedom and equality ? Rocks and garbage
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.10.13)
thrown at other human beings? Sounds like Palestinian brainwashing has seeped into Haredi minds.
20. Non-jews stopping Jews from praying
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (05.10.13)
It is disgusting that in ISrael non-Jews who follow the Haredi religion, which is differentiated from Judaism in that they only recognize 9 commandments - thou shalt not steal having been deleated, and who worship false idol ayatollahs, should stop Jews from praying. Perhaps these anti-Jews should ahve their residency permits cancelled and be sent back to Poland
21. #15 - Not "the majority of religious community".
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (05.10.13)
Why do you say, " majority of religious community"? Would most Liberal, conservative and orthodox Jews go and throw garbage at women? And I personally know Haredim who find the behavior of the fanatical Haredim highly embarrassing.
22. Wall is NOT the Kotel (Temple). It is
(05.10.13)
just a synagogue. At the moment is Jewish. But this place an become Muslim like many other synagogues in New York, Chicago, etc, after they became reform and then sold to non-Jews. Why these women want to dress like Rav Ovadia and go to Jewish synagogue? Funny!
23. Fanatics in the Name of God
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne - UK   (05.10.13)
Wherever you look in our society - there are people who feel bitterly about others - In the name of Peace - Why God dont listen?
24. Is just a wall
Yousefine ,   Jerusalem   (05.10.13)
a bunch of soil put together with water, dumb people.
25. Just my personal experience...
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (05.10.13)
My daughter came back from Poland school trip. She also learns in semi-dati school. They came to Kotel at 3 in the morning (night) straight from the airport to pray and thank god for giving us this land. After the prayer they starting singing songs to thank god. They were singing in a group which is allowed. There were very few hareidi people praying there. They all come collectively to girl's rav and threatened him and ordered him to stop. He said that they are singing in a group so it is allowed. These people almost hit him. The girls pleaded to these haredim to stop and promised that they will not sing. No one came to help. On the way out the soldier asked them and said this is not new. It happens every now and then. These are hareidim or goons? They want to eliminate the name and power of woman. This is not about religion but about power and superiority. This is not about religion but about cult....
26. Wheir is video of the RIOT?
Mo ,   Jerusalem   (05.10.13)
On the Hebrew video, I see Police pushing 1000's of peaceful girls for no apparent reason - With all the media in place, wheir is the video of the RIOT?
27. where the money is:
Simon Soesan ,   Haifa   (05.10.13)
Dear Mr. Lapid. You were asking where the money is? Here is your chance to find out: whop paid the buses for these girls? Why aren't they at school today? Who pays for their lunch? Instead of creating more taxes, why don't you plan to re-distribute the taxpayer's money?
28. Ovadiah, Ovadiah,...
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (05.10.13)
The Haredim have the right to protest, but what was happening there is pure fanaticism, violence... It makes me think about Arabic-Islamic riots against other religions. If Ovadiah Joseph not harshly condemns that riot - in a certain way it was also a desecration of a holly site - then I ask him to use again his original Arabic name: Abdullah Youssef. Because of that action the Islamists are certainly rubbing their hands in happiness and fun. Abdullah Youssef you are now (like) one of them. But, between us, I think that the Haredim simply know that they are losing their political grip or stranglehold on Israel. That's it.
29. both sides at fault
chaya ,   central israel   (05.10.13)
they probably did not realize that they stand on holy grounds to let this sad incident happen. Those reform women provoked this unfortunate behaviour of the haredim. i do hope those women went to the mikveh and purified themselves before putting on the holy tefillin.. that's the least they could do
30. Harm
grandestgrandma ,   petach tikva   (05.10.13)
arrogant ignorant women that are confused and look for attention are equal to the gay movement is it correct no, you want to accept it thats your right but can't force others this is a legal holy jewish site and should be respected as such and when g-d gets angry watch out
