The Press is really digging for something to write about. I thought there were several important newsworthy events going on now that would have kept the presses attention. This is silly. When the President makes a request to a Marine, that should override an obscure protocol rule.

"...without the approval of the Commandant of the Marine Corp." Um, it was the Commandant's Commander in Chief who requested/ordered the umbrellas. And let's not forget the Oath of Enlistment: "...I will obey the orders of the President of the United States..."

You are incorrect. The President doesn't have the authority, nor should he to break rules or force others to break rules. He is a President, not a member of royalty or a dictator ( although he may, at times, have difficulty distinguishing what his role is) While I understand the Marines desire not to cause an embarrassment the press is correct in reporting it. You better believe if a Republican had done this, there would be no questioning the propriety of it being reported. Obama goofed big time with AP wire-taps. He slapped his fan club in the face and now he may be paying the price--full disclosure of his snafus.

What can one expect from a president who pronouncs corps, "corpse" when the correct pronunciation is "kohr." This same sucker said he had visited "57 US states" ...which we know numerically is untrue.

Actually, I think the manual means that a Marine should not carry an umbrella to keep himself from getting wet, out of the sun, etc. Also a Marine is a Marine, not a soldier. The Army has soldiers, Navy has sailors. So if a Marine was doing anything that might need the use of both hands, it is acceptable not to salute, IE, the Marine would not have to empty his hands to salute, even if in full dress uniform. Cute story, but people in the press continue to call U.S. Marines soldiers. Which we clearly are not. I we desired to be soldiers we would have joined the Army instead of the Marine Corps.

Though it seemed an unintentional mistake on behalf of the POTUS, it probably would be a good idea to not treat your guard like your assistant - to do otherwise is disrespectful of the individual Marine and the branch they symbolize. PS to the Editor: There are no "soldiers" in the Marine Corps. That's why they're called "Marines."

Hey - the regulations said they are not allowed to "carry" umbrellas. I don't see anything about "holding" an umbrella. Which is, in fact, what the Marines are doing in this picture.

Saluting is the most important action for the Marines? As the head of the armed services, Obama can make the Marines do whatever he wants.

The content of the manual was undoubtedly approved by DOD. Obama has been around D.C. for awhile - actually way too long - so he should have at least suspected that Marines do not carry umbrellas. You would think he would have asked by now having seen the Marines in all kinds of weather w/o umbrellas. Being Marines, they did the right thing in the situation. They did not embarrass Obama. He is well versed at doing that on his own.

At the press conference, Obama was asked about why he used the IRS to persecute his political enemies, sent the Justice department to dig up dirt on journalists, and of course, why he lied about Benghazi. This article ignores all that.

YOU ARE DEAD WRONG! I am a Marine, 100% disabled from the Vietnam war. I was very embarrassed by this incident. No one has the authority to force a Marine to violate the Marine Code of Conduct. Not even the president. This man is not my president and he is the enemy of the USA. He is the enemy of Israel and is the enemy of all that is sacred and right. Can you imagine how the U.S. media would have responded had George Bush said half the idiotic things Obama said? Bush is a genius next to Obama. However, most of the U.S. media will do anything to protect Obama; no matter how much harm Obama does to America.
