1. Pathetic attempt ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.21.13)
... to recoup some semblance of dignity after Israel demolished a Syrian outpost that unleashed "Syrian wrath" by firing one time too many at Israeli positions in the Golan. Israel killed however many Syrians, Hezbollah and Revolutionary Guard. Doesn't matter. Just Israel taking out the trash. Syria doesn't pass the laugh test. I strongly recommend that Syria -- or anyone else -- test Israel's mettle. There's a lot worse we can do than introduce you to a Tamuz missile. Remember what we did on three previous occasions when Syria tried to be defiant? Didn't work out so well for Syria, did it? The same holds true for anyone else who tries to challenge Israel.
2. Oh, that old piece of scrap
Lame   (05.21.13)
It was captured by the Hizbullah in 2006 or even earlier, and then placed in a museum boasting Hizbullah “victories” against Israel, and recently handed over to Syria for the latest PR incitement campaign against Israel.
3. "Syrian officials have reportedly threatened
A ,   Belgium   (05.21.13)
to unleash Palestinian guerrillas." Unleash, as in taking the leash of off an animal, or releasing an animal from a cage. A rather precise description of the "geurrillas" in question, although a rather degrading comparison to primates in general.
4. Actually, the news are correct.
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (05.21.13)
An armoured personnel carrier that belongs to a unit from Golani has been destroyed. It was hit at the engine, then burnt. Luckily all soldiers managed to leave without harm. My nephew was there.
5. Syria - Are you serious?
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne - UK   (05.21.13)
show us the proof instead of speading words - I believe what you say when I see it - I believe you are spreading phibs to boost your regime moral for local consumption - Syria - is this the best you can do?
6. Assad is such a fool....
David ,   Hartford USA   (05.21.13)
If he does attack Israel in some last-ditch effort to same his murderous regime, all he'll accomplish is his own downfall. If he sends his weakened army to 'retake' (haha!) the Golan, the insurgants will simply take control of Damascus and the entire country and Assad will be gone. He can't spare 10 men to attack Israel- they're all protecting Assad.
7. #3
Sam SM ,   UK   (05.21.13)
''Unleash'' in this particular context means 'hungry for allah'. They won't be disappointed either if any of these arab rambos are foolhardy enough to take on the IDF.
8. Syrian lies and idle threats
Get Real ,   UK   (05.21.13)
Just one vehicle ? Did they not mention what happened to the occupants or perhaps it was remote controlled? Missle and terror threats. Just shows how desperate the Syrian Military is becoming, especially if they believe they can, with or without Palestinian terrorists, take on Israel.
9. So an israeli armored vehicle was indeed hit
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (05.21.13)
As much as Tsahal is trying to downplay this, it looks like an armored vehicle was indeed hit by syrians. Luckily no israeli personnel were killed. Of course, the syrian side claims it destroyed, and the israeli side claims it damaged, but is it really all that important whether the vehicle is repairable or a write-off? The important questions are: how and why did Israel allow this to happen? What were they doing between lines "alpha" and "bravo" and why was this so poorly planned? Anyone familiar with mechanized infantry tactics knows that APCs are rarely, if ever, used by themselves. Was there a larger engagement that we are not aware of? The APCs are generally more vulnerable to enemy fire, and unlike tanks they have few (if any) countermeasures for ATGMs. A good old RPG will do them in, if allowed to get within range. Having looked at the map, there appears to be enough vegetation on the syrian side to hide more than a few ATGM or RPG crews. We already know that Syrians have plenty of both, because they are the ones who supplied them to Hezbollah. What were they thinking? This whole endeavor just reeks of too much hutzpah, combined with insufficient reconnaissance and piss poor planning. Assad regime is by no means on its last legs at this time, and in any event there is no excuse for being complacent.
10. The Butcher Of syria Murders His Own
(05.21.13)
Citizens, Gases them, Drops Bombs on them and let's Terrorists Play on syrian soil Aids Terrorist Groups and Terrorist regimes And Has The Batzism to say Without Proof his henchman destroyed a IDF vehicle? Wow now that's something to be proud of? What a Ignorant haji he really is!
11. pathetic syria

12. To #4avi
Yisroel ,   Jerusalem   (05.21.13)
Golani right now are in training so there is no way their apc got hit
13. Where is the evidence
Robert Busika ,   Kampala, Uganda   (05.21.13)
One thing I have learned about Arab regimes is the richness of bombast and bravado. Where is the evidence that this happened? Now this is nothing but an attempt to mitigate the embarrassment suffered under spectacular bombardment a few weeks ago.
14. if its true
Anthony ,   us   (05.21.13)
The big question is what a Israeli vehicle doing in the Syrian side of Golan?? if indeed they were there no surprise they got attacked. common sense people. if someone enters ur home u fight him whether u win or not. all i am saying is Israel should not out foot soldiers in syria unless they get attacked.
15. #14, That's a big "if", considering it's not true.
Jake   (05.21.13)
16. "Avi" #4 I'm calling your bluff.
Jake   (05.21.13)
You claim to be from NYC, yet you employ British spellings. You claim the Syrians are telling the truth, yet there is not a shred of evidence to back it up. Moreover, the Syrians claimed they destroyed "an Israeli vehicle with everything it was carrying", which is not what you are claiming. You claim that an APC was hit (presumably based on what you see in the above photo), but this is not the vehicle that was hit; rather it is was a patrol jeep. You claim the unit was Golani, but as #12 has pointed out, that's a dubious claim. Next time you decide to make bogus claims under a false-flag alias, do your homework first.
17. To Jake #16
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (05.21.13)
1. I am an Israeli living in the US. The way English is taught in Israel is according to the British spelling. Old habits don't die. 2. Already the IDF admitted that a "vehicle" was "damaged", after initially denying the whole report. This was a small force from Sayeret Golani on jeeps. However, there was also an APC in the force and this was the vehicle that was hit. What was the purpose of the APC? I don't know. Ask Gantz.
18. #17, "Avi"
Jake   (05.21.13)
1. The vehicle that was hit was a JEEP, not an APC. That has already been reported in multiple news sites, so give it up. 2. I have followed this news item since it was in the headline news items, at no time did I see an Israeli denial that one of their vehicles was hit. They only denied the Syrian version of events that their vehicle had been destroyed, and revealed that they returned fire with a Tammuz missile. 3. The Syrians claimed they destroyed the vehicle "with everything inside it". That is false, as is their claim that the vehicle had crossed over the ceasefire line. 4. English in Israel today uses primarily American spelling and grammar.
19. If and when I become Prime Minister of Israel...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.21.13)
I would teach A$$-ad a thing or two about war... After all, I have extensive experience in the military. I served in several wars, most recently I helped Sharon cross the Suez in 1973 and we advanced to within meters of the Presidential palace in Cairo...
20. Looks like syrians lied once again
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (05.21.13)
Looks like per Israeli side was indeed a jeep, not an APC. And it was on Israeli side on the line, according to Israel. Frankly, if it was indeed a Jeep, I'd buy the israeli side of the story. It is unlikely that the israeli soldiers got lost or went astray, and if they were indeed on a mission on the syrian side they would have likely gone either on foot or used something other than a jeep. What are the syrians trying to achieve by provoking this fight? Probably they are trying to provoke a stiff response from Israel, then go crying to Iran and Russia playing victim. May be they hope to get more rockets from their allies. It's not a winning strategy either way, but then, the Assad administration does not strike me like a group of brilliant strategists. In a week or two we'll know what this is all about.
