1. Our population centres wre already hit in 1991
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.21.13)
What we are now facing is the inability of the Israeli political classes to come to an agreement where people no longer feel the need to fire rockets at Israel. Up to now we have been lucky in the fact that the people firing the rockets were not as technologically advanced as the weapons we have provided us by the united States taxpayer. That is now changing
2. funny
(05.21.13)
We could spread the population out in the safety of hilly Judea and Samaria. Instead, the government and "security experts" insist on concentrating the population in dense urban centers that will become kill zones when the missiles come down. What could possibly go wrong?

4. A good timely reminder that Israel,
Get Real ,   UK   (05.21.13)
whilst preparing for defence, possesses a far greater destructive capacity than her enemies.
5. Just to look on the bright side.
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (05.21.13)
It seems to me that the Arab tyrants might talk of destroying the State of Israel but they won't want to.They need Israel too much as an Aunt Sally and an invented enemy to use as an excuse to oppress their subjects. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
6. Israel should make sure its citizens will
Israeli 2   (05.21.13)
be protected. What these commanders are saying is: If Syria, Hezbollah and the Hamas all aim at Tel Aviv at once, it will be like it was in Haifa times a thousand. Also when that happens Israel must have the resolve to annihilate without hesitation and not wait like a dog for permission from their European and American masters.
7. Is this to get our minds off the pesky financial issues?Just
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.21.13)
a thought...
8. #1 To Sarah B
Raphael ,   Paris France   (05.21.13)
Sarah, you are very naive. There was an agreement with Egypt less than 40 years ago. How is the situation now ? Will Egypt always keep peace with Israel ? Now, they sure don't have the means to fight Israel, but if they had the means, they would attack. With or without agreement, these people will always feel the need to fire rockets at Israel, because their hatred of Israel doesn't depend on anything. You can give them land, money, etc... they will never be satisfied. They will be satisfied only where there are no more Jews in Israel.
9. unfortunatly Israel will
arne ,   chicago usa   (05.21.13)
have to use a weapon of " mass distruction", because they will have no other choice.these are very bad times and the great super powers have done little more then" stir the pot". no need to pray, prayers get you nothing--only fighting will.

Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.21.13)
Israel didn't make peace with the Egyptian people. Israel made peace with the Mubarak family of Egypt. Big difference

12. Another Netanyahu blunder
Jon ,   Baltimore, US   (05.21.13)
This man appears to be under the sway of his own propagandists. He tells Putin, through the press, that he must stop the sale of air defense weapons to Syria, this just prior to their meeting. Of course Putin had to show he could not be dictated to by what the world sees as a US puppet state. Then Netanyahu has someone leak to the NY Times a threat to Syria that Israel will attack them any time and any place they see fit and Syria and better not even think of responding. Just because Israelis treat him as a king does not mean anyone else will.
13. #1 and #8
Son Of Cyrus ,   UK   (05.21.13)
Dear Sarah on this occasion you are somewhat off the true marker. Whilst it is true that there has been a failure in the diplomatic arena, however, Rapael is absolutely spot on. These people will not be satisfied unless all Jews are driven out of their homeland or subjucated under Islam with either forced conversion or murder, rape, looting, torture etc... You only have to look at what they do to each other even those who are muslims. No Agreement is going to hold up until and unless such people realize that firstly we are children of the same god and secondly it is up to each individual. We all regardless of our backgrounds (Race, Religion, Colour, Country of Birth, Gendre, Position, Profession, Financial Status, etc..) have a choice as a free human being. As a human being we come into contact with our universe through our thoughts, words and deeds and the intent by which we use them. The choices we make will have effects - CAUSE & EFFECT. Unfortunately such concepts are beyond some people's cultural capacity and/or intellectual comprehension.
14. #9 Arne - Speak for yourself.
Devorah   (05.21.13)
Your telling Jews not to pray speaks to your idiocy. Sorry if prayer has not worked for you, but it is easy to understand why.
15. #7 - No, Tom. This drill is held every May
Devorah   (05.21.13)
16. REMEMBER 1967
ALAN ,   USA   (05.21.13)
REMEMBER THE 6 DAY WAR 1967, WE WON, WE TOOK A PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE. HOW DID WE KNOW? AND MUST WE DO IT AGAIN?
17. The losses incurred
Amram ,   Toronto, Canada   (05.21.13)
will be the direct consequence of the stupidity of the Israeli leaders who repeatedly and legitimately start wars but do not finish them. The message to our enemies : "We will let you off the hook this time. Get better rockets next time".
18. Diaspora readers should refrain from meddling in defense...
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (05.21.13)
...and security matters! We sit very comfortable here, in our own countries, airing our worries and telling what Israeli military should or should not do. What a chutzpah! We are not the ones in the front lines, neither are our sons (obviously, if you happen to have a son or a daughter serving in the IDF, my comment does not apply ). We are not facing the dangers that Israeli citizens face. We are not the ones entitles to choose. It is high time we stop patronizing Israel and Israelis, we Diaspora Jews should give out full fledged, heartfelt, strong support to our homeland - but we must know our limits and our boundaries.
19. I applaud the blunt honesty
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (05.21.13)
When you deal with Israelis, you always know exactly where you stand with them. There is no messing around, at least that has been my experience. It is truly amazing that they went and honestly told the population that the rockets are going to fall sooner or later. Brutally honesty has advantages, at least the people will do their best to get ready. Something like this is unfortunately impossible in the US. Our leaders would lie through their teeth till the last moment and then pretend that they did not know what was about to happen. It is really refreshing to see this kind of honesty for a change.
20. Hit by what ?...Gas, Bio,Nuke, Conventional ?
Roland Seener ,   London England   (05.21.13)
This report must give our enemies a feeling of elation, and is counter productive to our morale. Any thinking person is aware of the gap that might not have been closed to incoming missiles, and inadequacies that exist as it always is when it comes to the crunch of war . .We must not deflate our morale. It is to our duty to psyche down that of enemies but not that of ourselves We must have full confidence in IDF that they will do their best and with the help of , our citizenery not forgetting that of the Almighty " we shall prevail in any attempt to put us down.As the saying goes..."A good Jew has to be optimistic"
21. Israel can't defend against Syrian Missiles or WMD payloads
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (05.21.13)
...Sarin, Tabun, VX, Mustard Gas, Anthrax, Plague, Tularemia, Botulinium, Smallpox, Flotoxin, Cholera, Ricin, and Camelpox.
22. True enough....the missiles will fly
Cameron ,   USA   (05.22.13)
The age of tank & jet dueling is gone. Population and infrastructure devastation within hours is now the way of it.
23. #21: All that you mentioned will come
Israeli 2   (05.22.13)
upon you. This is the basic rule of the universe.
24. #10 oh brilliant one who should Israel make with peace with?

you have been such a bla bla bla ... come on, what are you waiting for? do you have the guts? I think its better for you to eat ice cream an sleep on the plane lol
26. To all of you ...
Mike ,   NZ   (05.22.13)
It is preferable that some contributors to this discussion keep their mouths closed and act stupid then open it and remove all doubt !!
27. Here's what I suggest…
Brendan ,   Naples, Fl US   (05.22.13)
That Israel give the Mediterranian Arabs proportional representation in their legislative body, And give us our generational land back so we can sell it Tel Aviv is literally going to be crushed by Iran and Hezbollah, And there is no Benjamin Netanyahu and Avigdor Leiberman asking the Americans for help
28. I would not worry about the WMD payloads too much
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (05.22.13)
I am flying to Israel in a few days. I am not terribly concerned about syrian missiles in general and ones with WMD payloads in particular. The sad truth about chemical weapons is that they are a scary instrument of terror, but they are largely ineffective. In addition, if a warhead with a WMD payload lands in Israel, syria will become an uninhabitable radioactive waste dump within minutes. While Syria looks big on the map, a lot of the territory is desert. Wiping the inhabited parts of Syria completely off the map is well within reach of IAF, even if restricted to conventional weapons. Air superiority can have devastating effects. By some estimates more people died in firebombing of Dresden than in nuclear bombing of Nagasaki, although no one knows for sure. Assad has acted rationally so far, and he does not seem suicidal.
29. 20.
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.22.13)
We & the IDF really don't need your advice here. The entire House of Israel is united when we face war. We have ''been through it before, we will go through it again.'' We will give our enemies exactly what they are asking for! Am Israel Chai.
