6. Leve the mines where they are.
Austin ,   Canada   (05.21.13)
The mines are there for a reason, and should not have been removed because of a rare previous incident.
7. Prayers
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (05.21.13)

Peace and comfort to all who loved this son of Israel.
9. Stop using Jews for these sorts of jobs!
Dan S.   (05.22.13)
Use Palestinian terrorists and hoodlums - staring with those in the prisons instead. Arrange them in a long line equal to the breadth of the minefield and have the line march slowly forward. When they hit a min and it explodes, plug the hole that is created with more of the scum and then have the line start moving forward again. Those that survive would be used to help clear the next minefield. In order to keep them in line, behind woul deep laced armed guards with a machine gun. Anyone who tries to break ranks would be immediately dispatched.
10. Sounds too much like Iranian and
Barney ,   USA   (05.22.13)
Terrorist scum Israel fights. We can't sink to their level and don't need to in order to be victorious
11. #9
Doives ,   Ra'anana   (05.22.13)
Nazis did these sort of things with Jews in ww2. Do you actually want the IDF to act like Nazis? I'm sure you would make Ahmadinejad and Israel supporters around the world very happy.
12. Clearing the mines
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (05.22.13)
My sympathies are with the family. What a horrible waste of a young life. But the mines must be cleared. They are a danger to the population.I'm surprised this hasn't happened more often because the road up to the Golan is still studded with mines. As for Palestinians doing the job, they are not our slaves. That attitude is counterproductive. Jews can be builders and remove mines. I just wonder whether it really was a mine. Lately there is the constant rumble of something. And it isn't just soldiers doing emunim.
13. victim of syrian attack on the patrol
Proffy ,   qatar   (05.22.13)
I think this soldier was killed by the attack from Syrian troops on the Israeli patrol afternoon but the IDF just said that he was killed by the explosion of an old mine
14. So sad.
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.22.13)
Baruch Dayan Ha'emet.
15. Dan S. for Supreme Court Justice
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (05.22.13)
My sentiments as well, Dan! One question though: with all the advanced military technology, aren't there "drone" like machines that can detect mines? I, too, mourn for this Israeli soldier and his family. Am Yisrael Chai.

Your suggestion is sick. I suggest that you take an anger management course at the very least. Getting professional help would be even better for you.

I note that not a one of you is an Israeli. It might be instructive for you to read Comments posted by those of us that live here.
18. Is the training b4 enough? Give them test runs on mines.
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.22.13)
19. Strange coincidence
Al ,   Switzerland   (05.22.13)
This soldier was killed the same day syrian army damages an IDF vehicle. Israel wants maybe to avoid a confrontation and try to blame the death on a mine...
20. 18.
James ,   Beersheva   (05.22.13)
test runs? are you crazy?
21. Every Combat Engineer does this...
Ya'akov ,   Jerusalem   (05.22.13)
This is an exercise in advanced training. It is a very practiced thing and every soldier in Handesa kravit participates. Also...an anti-tank land mine does not just explode by a human walking on it. They are pressure sensitive but require more than 2 tons of pressure to explode. Would not go off even if a jeep drove over it. To detonate it in the exercise explosives are used to detonate it. Must have been detonated somehow or some other details being withheld...
22. #18 Note from the Golan
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (05.22.13)
It's not a matter of training, or caution. The Golan is studded with mines. The mine areas are marked off and surrounded by wire fencing. But for those poor souls clearing mines need caution, training and luck. Those mines have been in place over forty years. This means forty years of rain, snow and shifting ground.
23. #9 Agree with you
A ,   Belgium   (05.22.13)
During Cast Lead, my son, who was also in the Engineering Corp, had to dismantle booby traps set by arabs (usually propane bottles with an explosive charge and a timer) in arab homes in gaza. Luckily, he is still alive today. Believe me, I'd much prefer your idea, the prisons are overcrowded with murderers and terrorists, and the Israeli taxpayer has to pay for their internet, TV's, education, etc. Nothing wrong by letting them return the favor and do something useful to the state, before they are released in another kidnapping deal to kill more Jews..
24. #22 Indeed, explosives become very unstable
A ,   Belgium   (05.22.13)
after periods of time. There was recently an incident here in Belgium where a farmer rode over a phosphorous grenade from WW1 with his tractor, over 100 years old. It exploded but he wasn't terribly hurt. That is why #9's idea is the most plausible, instead of using our sons to do this dangerous job. They have enough to do defending the country.
25. @23
Simun ,   Beit Hanun   (05.22.13)
you have the same arguement Germans had during WW2. "jews", "russians", french", "polish people" should remove mines or should be used as human shields, because their compatriots planted those mines, saving german live...german nazis also used criminal germans from the concentration camps as human mine detectors. whats your next idea? forced labour? people like you make me sick and i hope your son is more mensh than you
26. #23 & #9
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (05.22.13)
Sorry, You don't get it. When our Zionist forefathers dreamed of a Jewish homeland, Palestinian slaves were not part of the vision. Sending in "undesirables" to clear out a minefield is the kind of things the Nazis did and I don't see them as a role model.
27. Proud of the comments here by Israelis!
Mea   (05.22.13)
I am constantly amazed at the difference between comments made by Israelis and American Christians. Christian commenters parrot Rush Limbaugh with blood thirty hatred and racism. Israelis, who serve their country and send their children forward to do the same, temper their words with reality and compassion. This is what happens when you experience war first hand, instead of becoming self righteous and conceited through being hypnotized by ignorant preachers and racist radio-bumbles and Sarah Palin. Israelis possess a respect for war that has no profit motive--another difference..
