The world agrees with them --so too do a great many Israelis from all but the extreme right. We did not leave Gaza as a unilateral act of peace but as a tactical move. We were well aware of the power struggle and what most likely would and did happen when we withdrew. Abandoning the settlements when we did saved a lot of Iraeli lives and made it much easier to defend against and respond to terrorism from Gaza. The same will be true when we leave the west bank.

The Israeli government has been misleading us about the legality of the settlements for years --and they can't admit it for various practical reasons, not least of which is they would not be able to use them effectively for bargaining chips in negotiations. Perhaps an ICC ruling is needed to force the government into action.
