1. Now we see who really runs this country.

3. FOOLS! Why make the ceremony right near a charedi area?
lildoobird ,   Jerusalem   (05.23.13)
Ramat Eshkol and Maalot Dafna are now officially Charedi and they border Bet Yisroel and Meah Shearim. ANYONE can tell you that. If you are wise than you do not openly antagonize. Follow the adage of the sages:" Speak little, Do much." It doesn't always have to be so "in your face" .
4. Good luck to them

5. Pandering to the useless schnorrers..shame
Al   (05.23.13)
Stop pandering to these useless moochers. They are not the guards to heaven indeed they are the followers to hell. In 1939-45 Europe their Rebbes found a way out of Europe while their chassidim all went to hell. Were it not for the so called pre-state secular settlers who all came form religious homes and who were sick and tired of being useless sheep, there would never be an Israel. Today that Israel feeds these useless schnorrers and at the same time panders to their madness. They do not hold the keys to my redemption. I can pray to God however I wish. I can drive a car whenever I wish. I am a Jew, and I am proud. They do nothing for me. I don't need them in the least.
6. A few thousand soldiers should have
jason white ,   afula,israel   (05.23.13)
been armed with clubs and helmets. They should break up any hara-di riots and arrest as many hara-dims as possible. Either jail them for a year or exile them. Close up the 20 largest hara-di yeshivas permanently!
7. How to stop the Haredim easily
Dan S.   (05.23.13)
Arrest their rabbis by drawing up lists of those who have encouraged this sort of sedition. Without the rabbis, the Haredi groups will be no bother. The rabbis should be forced to do hard labor for the IDF in the depths of the Negev until such time as they reform themselves.
8. "haredi riots in Jerusalem"
Moshe ,   Elad   (05.23.13)
Generally when chilonim riot you actually see chilonim rioting. Here you show a photo with a caption "haredi riots in Jerusalem" but there's nothing to prove it. It might easily have been some chilonim or Arabs burning the garbage.
9.  You are missing one mercy-raising ingredient.
Rachel in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.23.13)
And that is the real difficulty many Chareidi boys face at home and in their communities (separate from notions of zealous masses protesting) when they join the army (and there have always been some Chareidi who go to the army even before this law arose). Some must change out of uniform before they go home. Parents will encourage this so that neighbors don't know they are in the army, because if it gets out, "who would marry your sister?" Public photographs of their swearing in could be just as 'endangering'. This also may have been part of the I DF's decision. You don't change a culture overnight. A little rachmanut for those caught in cultural upheaval. They are own brothers and sisters and are lashing out theft because they are terrified. Let's leave out the glee in condemning them, okay?
10. To the Charedi Soldiers of the IDF we salute you
Tim ,   Brighton   (05.23.13)
They bring their unique combination of their religious orthodoxy with the defence of the country and its people Now that commands respect!
11. Rachmanut from Rachel
ASTRONAUT ,   SC, USA   (05.23.13)
Thank you Rachel for your insightful comment. How many of us in the diaspora understand that Charedim who serve in the army endure such stigmatism from their own families, such as "who would marry your sister?" ALL of Am Yisrael exists in a frail, precious shell - a shell that may be smashed to bits at any time, by the enemies who froth for vengeance along every border. I pray for healing within Am Yisrael.
12. Response to #3
David A. ,   Chicago / Jerusalem   (05.23.13)
The ceremonies at givat hatacmoshet have been going on prior to the neighborhood becoming more chareidee - so it is the chareidim who should not be 'in your face'.

David A. ,   Chicago / Jerusalem   (05.23.13)
The reality is, most of the chayalim going into Nachal Charedi are not Charedim but boys from hesder style yishivote, including many through the Machal program. And many of the charedim who do go are their 'street' kids. I do agree that all those in the unit as well as all chayalim, commands our respect.
