1. Does this bill of Equal Share of the Burden include Arabs
Moshe ,   Elad   (05.23.13)
or are they exempt because they don't learn Torah and there's no need to secularize them? What about chiloni draft dodgers? Are they also exempt because there's no need to secularize them either?
2. Arab recruitment?
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (05.23.13)
What steps for increasing Arab recruitment were suggested? If not IDF for obvious reasons, what about social services for the Arab community as an option? Haredim are 10% of Israelis. Arabs are 20%. If not for the high Haredi birth rate the Arabs would be a lot more than 20%.
3. Worth it?
Mark ,   Israel   (05.23.13)
It looks like the extra manpower the army *might* gain through haredi enlistment will be nicely offset by the huge administrative burden all these controls and enforcements will create.
4. Prevented from leaving the country?
Mark ,   Israel   (05.23.13)
Although I am opposed to basically everything in the proposal, I can see where they are coming from. But the issue of preventing yeshiva students from leaving the country for a limited time (say, to visit family) seems just a little bit too aggressive and I think just shows the antagonistic way in which this proposal was drafted. Good luck making this work.
5. #1 - YES
Ruthie ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.23.13)
The article clearly states "Steps for increasing Arab recruitment were also suggested."
6. Good news. new recrutes in IDF...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.23.13)
centipedes with 98 missing legs. It is a waste of time to pass resolutions, while Rabbis remain of another opinion. Let it go and move on. What force does not achieve, understanding does. Remember, the Israeli pioneers were children of Haredim.
7. Talkbackers blinded beyond their nose
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (05.23.13)
Recruitment does at least 2 things. Actively attempt to break down the barriers in the wider Jewish society, and also give a taste of real life and self reliance to the strange Sects. Torah itself forbid its study to exclusion of life or work to earn a living. Economy can't carry parasitics who do not go by what Torah itself demands Recruitment offers a way to train to lean a trade or profession and have the option to earn by the sweat of the brow not by sitting on bottoms, learning Torah , hardly keeping it , and feeding off charity
8. Fortunate beginning
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (05.23.13)
Ultimately, Charedi youths will integrate more fully into the country and be better off for it. Charedi leaders, of course, are very fearful as their respective reigns of obedience over the majority of charedim will be coming to an end along with their wealth and privileges. as to the Arab population, I think the intention of this government is to find ways of integrating them into the mainstream Israeli society but I think it's fair to remain patient as only so much can be accomplished in terms of a social makeover at any one time. As to the elite Jewish dropouts, I'd also be interested in whether the psychiatrists and psychologists hired by the parents will be challenged by forensic psychiatrists and psychologists hired by the military itself. Those few claiming to be conscientious objectors should be even more thoroughly investigated.
9. what will the chilonim do when the IDF becomes religious?
avg joe ,   Israel   (05.23.13)
then they will cry that there are too many religious soldiers in their unit. The religious have won-they just don't know it yet.
10. Enlistment
Alejandro ,   B, Aires Argentine   (05.23.13)
Haredi people is slowly increasing enlisting in IDF by their own initiative. This law is a good way to derrail every past effort made in order to integrate to haredim to secular society. Why not to force seculars recruits to study Torah? Arab enlistment is simply suicide.
11. #1 you really want Arab scum to be trained
Moshe   (05.23.13)
You really want Christian and Muslim Arab scum walking around with guns?
12. How much
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (05.23.13)
How much will 21 year old "conscripts" with 2 or 4 children at home cost us in sheqals compared to normal 18 year olds. Why can't these kids serve with our kids. there is no such thing as separate but equal, it's never worked worked, never will. When I served we were very happy to help the more observant soldiers because we were comrades who respected one another.
