1. BDS
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.24.13)
The whole movement is populated by a bunch of idiots who never quite managed to get over being hippies. "Make love, not war." Yeah, but what happens when others make war against you? They've never quite managed to come up with an answer to that one. Remember Abby Hoffman? Went from writing "Steal this Book" to earning tens of millions of dollars as a Wall Street analyst. He never did get around to writing a book titled "Steal my Salary." Quite the fraud, eh? Sooner or later, everyone has to grow up. When the BDS supporters grow up and learn that the ersatz "Palestinians" have nothing at all to offer the world except terrorism and meaningless blather, hopefully, they, too, will become latter-day Abby Hoffmans. But it doesn't matter. Reality trumps all. Stupidity dies and goes away.
2. Buy Baby Buy Israeli Products Continues in USA
Dina ,   USA   (05.24.13)
Just keep spreading the word how great Israeli products are and how they help so many people...Shabbat Shalom!
3. #1
B ,   USA   (05.24.13)
Sarah, I agree with you, the BDS are called Useless idiots. I hope not to late when The Useless idiots wake up.
4. BDSM
marian ,   Romania   (05.24.13)
They want to say BDSM
5. To Sarah B at No. 1
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.24.13)
Stupidity may die and go away but it keeps breeding and having children. We have Edithann, graczyk, and Benassi etc. to remind us of that.
6. Why the BDS movement worked so well against South Africa
Arnold ,   Montreal-Canada   (05.24.13)
The ruling white government of South Africa was in your face racist. The laws disallowed the smallest rights of the black population. The economy was built on natural resources and what today we refer to "blood diamonds". So it was easy for countries to put the squeeze on the regime. Israel is a whole different story. Arabs have equal rights under the law as long as they follow the laws. Economically Israel has a wide variety of businesses which cater to the needs of the world at large. Recently it has started to develop its natural resources which will benefit both Arab and Israeli. Israelis is not perfect but it is a far cry from the old white regime of S. Africa.
7. To #1,3&5
Alejandro ,   Santo Domingo, D.R.   (05.24.13)
Those people are evil, not stupid.
8. To Sarah B:
Reuven   (05.24.13)
I agree with you on other points about BDS, but it was not Abby Hoffman who became a Wall Street analyst. It was his one-time, ultra-leftist pal, Jerry Rubin. But Hoffman earned plenty of money from his book and from speaking engagements.
9. Buycott Israel
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.24.13)
http://buycottisrael.com/ Just as a side note, the BDS movement started in 2001. Israeli exports have increased dramatically since then, and major American chains -- Trader Joe, Safeway, Costco -- have responded to calls to boycott Israeli products by doubling or trebling the quantities they have purchased in the past! Let me tell you -- there is nothing more gratifying in the middle of winter to walk into a grocery store and see those gorgeous Israeli tomatoes and peppers. But anyone who wishes is absolutely free to buy the more expensive pale-looking and tasteless stuff wrapped in plastic! Sherry-Lehmann stocks wines from Israel, and says it's hard to keep them from flying out the door. Since Noam Chomsky and Peter Beinart refuse to patronize stores which sell Israeli products, they can continue to drink rotgut purchased in their local neighborhood ghetto.
10. When obsessively attempting to single out Israel,
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.24.13)
to smear its name, to demonize it, to de-legitimize it, it being the liberal democratic and sovereign nation-state of a people, of the Jewish people, indeed, this attempt to bring about Israel's very demise is a form of racism, anti-Jewish racism at that, and this racist campaign is carried out by "progressive" members of society, cynically.
11. More whining
David ,   San Diego   (05.24.13)
This article never even tries to make any real points. How are these BDS groups working to destroy Israel? Explain! Don't these groups specifically boycott products made in West Bank settlements? Explain! Do academic boycotts work to destroy a nation? Explain! This article appears to be nothing but gibberish. It doesn't explain its statements, but simply works off of emotion. Its a "poor me" article written by someone who doesn't care to explain his claims. Anyways, boycotting settlement goods, and settlements, doesn't constitute distruction of a nation. Nice try loser!
12. Yes, but don't defame J St
Ed ,   USA   (05.24.13)
While I'm opposed to the BDS movement for many of the reasons the author states, it's disingenous to at the last moment try to link the movement to J Street. J Street has clearly stated over and over that BDS does not advance the cause of a two state resolution to the conflict, and opposes the BDS movement.
13. Why is the Barghouti even allowed to step foot in Israel?
A ,   Belgium   (05.24.13)
He should be sent back to Qatar where he came from, along with his fellow arab traitors enjoying their 34K shekel a month salaries in the Knesset.
14. BDS love it & follow it.
James USA   (05.24.13)
15. BDS undermines legitimate academic
ben   (05.24.13)
discourse, you mean like Israel's detaining of Noam Chomsky and refusal to let him give his lecture at Birzeit University.
16. who cares
(05.24.13)
as an american jew and oleh, i've only been lied to, abused, cheated, robbed, and exploited. Israel is a taker in a on-sided relationship that america can't get out of. USA needs to drop Israel hard on the ground and fast.
17. To: Reuven at No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.24.13)
Oooh, you're right! Mea culpa. I get my 1960s radicals mixed up! Thank you for correcting my error, and apologies to everyone.
18. 11 and 14
Chimo ,   Las Vegas, USA   (05.24.13)
BDS does a lot more than just boycott products made in the settlements, you are a stinking hypocritical liar. They are anti Israel racists and bigots. They lie about the wall that Israel built to protect their citizens from being blown to smithereens, and then they solicit brain dead morons like Roger Waters to come and represent their values to the world at large. You 2 idiots who like to come onto Israeli talkbacks just to talk sh!t about Israel are the real enemy.
19. BDS
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (05.24.13)
they will be defeated by israel's innovations. they cannot destroy the minds of the many jewish Israeli scientists and artists and innovators in all fields, in medicine, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, earth science, agriculture, mathematics, military science, and so much more, which makes Israel a world class nation of exports in innovations.
20. No problem, Sarah! And down with BDS.
Reuven   (05.25.13)
21. David from San Diego
Dave ,   Melbourne Australia   (05.25.13)
David from San Diego, the only thing I have in common with you is my name. The BDS jokers in Melbourne have notoriously and illegally tried to block the entrance at Max Brenner. They have also targeted Israeli goods clearly not produced in what bigots like you call settlements. The one whining is you. Why doesn't this BDS movement target countries that openly practice apartheid? Malaysia is the epitome of apartheid. Other countries whose governments support laws that discriminate against people who are "different" include china, Egypt, UAE, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and a number of other radical countries. Yet we buy products from these countries. Israel is the epitome of freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of sexual orientation, women's rights, etc for all of its constituents without exception. But to you, that counts for nothing. To you it's all about "settlements". What a joke!
22. #5, "Stupid" UN, World, recognized Palestine at UN in 2012
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (05.25.13)
23. Delegitimization of Israel
Stephen in New York   (05.25.13)
Delegitimization of Israel is the new form of anti-Semitism . We can see the historical pattern of delegitimizing/dehumanizing Jews preparatory to exterminating them. What's new and different now is that for the first time the Jews have the means and willingness to defend themselves.
24. Well said!
Tom ,   London   (05.25.13)
25. Cipora 19- Israel is central to
Stephen in New York   (05.25.13)
world technological innovation and the West won't be boycotting anything Israeli beyond humus and Dead Sea cosmetics. BDS seeks the destruction of Israel so, by definition, they will fail.
26. Israel Is Painting Itself Into An Apartheid Corner
World Citizen ,   the world   (05.25.13)
The BDS movement is growing and will win the minds of the educated classes of the Western world. You can see it on the campuses of universities and on sites throughout the web. It's just a matter of time if Israel stays it current course. But it doesn't have to be this way.
27. 26 world citizen you call yourself? You have no clue
Yardena   (05.25.13)
What the meaning of Apartheid is
28. #26
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.25.13)
Before you throw around words like Apartheid don't you think you should learn what it means first? The educated classes of the world knows what it means and doesn't insult the people who have actually experienced it like you are doing.
29. To Tar Israel Labeling "Apartheid" is Absurd and Malicious
Yardena   (05.25.13)
South African Apartheid. “Apartheid,” the Dutch-Africaans term for separation, was the social order of the former South Africa. It meant exactly that. The Black majority of the nation and the so-called Colored were kept strictly apart in all aspects of life. White domination over the native population was mandatory. For instance: Non-Whites had to carry a “passbook.” Passbook infringement could lead to deportation to one of the Bantu “homelands.” Blacks and Coloreds were being kept from a wide array of jobs. Black-White sex was a serious jail-time criminal offense. Hospitals and ambulances were strictly separated. Whites enjoyed free education until graduation. Not so for Blacks, whose education was strictly limited by the oppressive “Bantu Education Act.” By law, no mixed sports were allowed. Park benches, swimming pools, libraries, and movies were strictly separated. Blacks were not allowed to purchase or imbibe alcoholic drinks – etc, etc, etc. And that is only a partial and small list of the many abusive impediments that non-Whites suffered under the South African apartheid regime. To tar Israel with that kind of brush is utterly malicious. The exact opposite is the case. Not one single apartheid practice applies to Israel. Israel is by far the most racially mixed and tolerant nation in the entire Muslim Middle East. Arabs, who are about 20% of Israel’s population, enjoy, without any exception, the same rights and opportunities in all fields as their Jewish fellow citizens. The total equality of all Israelis is assured in Israel’s founding document. All non-Jews (which means primarily Muslim Arabs) have full voting rights. At present, eleven Arabs sit in Israel’s Knesset (parliament): Three Arabs are deputy speakers. Arabs are represented in Israel’s diplomatic service all over the world. Arab students may and do study in all Israeli universities. All children in Israel are entitled to subsidized education until graduation, without any restrictions based on color or religions. In short, Muslim Arabs and other non-Jews are allowed everything that Jews are allowed, everything that non-Whites were not allowed in apartheid South Africa.
30. to Ed #12- Answer why we should not defame JStreet
Yardena   (05.25.13)
For all those who support J Street under the guise of being pro-Israel, here are some questions that I hope you can answer. Why did one of the founders of J Street and members of its advisory board, David Levy say “”Maybe, if this collective Jewish presence” — that is, the Jewish State in the Middle East — “can only survive by the sword, then Israel really ain’t a good idea”? Why did the secretary of the J Street University branch say “We don’t want to isolate people because they don’t feel quite so comfortable with ‘pro-Israel,’ so we say ‘pro-peace”? Why did J Street campaign against a letter signed by 70 Senators urging America to press Arab states to recognize Israel? Why did J Street campaign against two of the most supportive of Israel US Representatives… for being too supportive of Israel while actively promoting, endorsing and asking donations for other representatives who are some of the least supportive and most critical of Israel? Why did J Street urge congressmen to oppose a letter calling for Palestinians to stop incitement against Israel? If J Street’s aim is to give a voice to American Jewish population, why did their vice-president of field and campaigns say that in reference to their administration, they “want to see them primarily moving Jews, and that is where the bulk of our resources go”? Why are their annual conferences filled with not only people engaged in BDS, but supporters and advocates of the movement? If the purpose and focus of their organization is the two-state solution, why did they campaign so hard to have Chuck Hagel nominated? Or why they are against Obama keeping the option of a military strike on the table in regards to Iran? Why did J Street deny that it had any connection with George Soros when Soros provided 15% of the organization’s funding? States often supports groups it would otherwise detest for the sole reason that it is an enemy of an enemy; is this why J Street receives a significant amount of donations from Arabs/Muslims, or groups that lobby to promote Iranian (National Iranian American Council) or Arab interests (Arab American institute)?
