1. Retirement vs. Dismissal

There is a great difference in retirement rights between those of a person that retired voluntarily and those of one that was dismissed. For this reason alone (and there are others as well) it is important that the dismissal of the station commander take precedence over his voluntary retirement. He was dismissed for cause and should not be permitted the benefits which accrue to one that has retired voluntarily.

And it is immaterial because the police chief refused to accept his offer of resignation, and in the end dismissed him, as quoted in the last paragraph: ""It should also be noted that the station commander's request to step down contained facts contradicting the committee's findings, and is subject to the approval and decision of his commanders, and is therefore irrelevant."
