People who value unconditional Human rights for all, and want the best for Arab and Jew, agree that Jews and Arabs should live together in the West Bank, under an Israeli government. This is the best and most humane solution. The alternative would be a harsh and fascist government.

This solution is something the majority of the UN could accept. Unfortunately it will not be accepted neither by Israelis nor by Palestinians. But in 5 years this is maybe the only solution. There are 2.5 million facts of life called Palestinians in West Bank. UN just recognized them and their right for the state of Palestine within the green line. Elkin should start printing Israeli passports for those Palestinians, if he sees that West Bank belongs to Israel. Otherwise he should stop building illegal houses to the occupied land and start negotiating with PA about final borders for Palestine and Israel.

So basically, Elkin is saying that the settlements are "facts on the ground" that must be paid attention to. If so then, just as the Palestinians argue, any new settlement construction is a unilateral change to the facts on the ground which prejudices peace negotiations. Elkin is providing support for the Palestinian's demand for a settlement freeze as a precondition for restarting talks.

Since when had they lived there for "centuries"? I wasn't aware, first of all, that a man can live for centuries, nevermind that the fact they don't actually own the land. They just covet it because it was some miles next to someone who shares their ethnicity, so it obviously belongs to them. Second of all, most Palestinians immigrated from the surrounding Arab lands in late 19th century to early 20th century - the same as the Jews, so please, back off. In fact, I think there was maybe less than a million people living in the region, though of course I might be wrong.

The today's leftists are the heirs of those who rejected the ideology of Herzl, rejected the idea of a Jewish state, a state that could have been founded before World War II, conform to the League of Nations decisions. The Marxist oriented Jewish Agency disowned the creation of a Jewish state, a state that could have prevented partially or perhaps even totally Hitler's extermination of European Jewry. This remains till today classified material, and paralyzes the successive Israeli governments in defending its status in the so-called occupied territories.
