1. Two pretenders to Bibi's throne playing to the crowd
Avramele   (05.27.13)
One winks at the Haredim, the other stirs populist resentment against Haredim and more than winks that he can't stand Arabs. Israel, whatever it's borders, will not survive intact unless all groups of citizens including Haredim and Arabs feel they are a respected part of the state. And yes, all settlers, regardless of where they may eventually have to move or live, should be treated the same as well.

4. I don't care what you say,,,,,
Ricky ,   The Bronx   (05.28.13)
Yair Lapid is sharp,,,,, very sharp. There are thousands if not millions of males, even women who are not even Jews, who would love, jump at the opportunity to serve Israel, to defend Israel and go down in the pages of history believing they have served G-d and done his will. Not a bunch of self righteous scared frauds who are in the Tanakh(pages of history) and are not nothing to the life of Israel and its future. I don't care what you say Yair Lapid is sharp,,,,,,,,,,very sharp.
5. Let's cut the crap
Jonathan   (05.28.13)
Haredim or not, they have to serve in the army. Enough blackmailing. Now Ya'alon is telling the Haredim that he will give them the carte blache if they form a coalition together in 3 years ? Why is every simple decision has to do with personal gains, profit, under the table deals, and whatever not. Keep Israel's interests in your decisions !!! Disgusting 'military' men. This is not YOUR country to sell.
6. Yalon is the smartest of them all
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (05.28.13)
Gen Yalon is correct. There is no reason or value in inciting the Charedim. Those Charedim who want to be soldiers will enlist in the Charedi Brigade anyway. Those who do not want to enlist will be lousy soldiers if forced to do so.
7. Israel Jewish State?
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (05.28.13)
B"H - If yes, let's obligate everyone to equal share of Torah learning. Let's stop IDF soldiers dodging Torah study and send them to jail! [Provocative on purpose just to show that everything depends on one's priorities]
8. In short don't stab in back at once but eventually
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (05.28.13)
do so in process; step by step. BB is not ready to let go of haredim. Shas is too important to him. He will flush the good future of this country in toilet and will manage to bring the alternate law just like tal law. Our leaders are selling this country in love of the chair and power. We all are doomed if we miss this historic chance for the personal gains of our leaders.
9. Israel is a Jewish state without religion. Yaalon is wrong.
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.28.13)
10. 7 Torah should lead the way to 2-way cooperation
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   netzarim.co.il   (05.28.13)
True followers of Torah LEAD the Way, by example. Khareidim, by contrast, "order" from the rear, refusing to DO what you order others to do. You are sanctimonious hypocrites. Call them not "Haredim" but "Qorakhim." If you seriously believed yourself, then all Khareidim would view service in IDF as an opportunity to personally demonstrate the value and merits of Khareidi beliefs and life to the seculars. The fact that all of you fear the opposite, fearing that the educated and modern Jews would demonstrate the value and merits of a rational view of the Creator to Haredim, PROVES that you deceive yourselves. You have no nothing to offer but to slander the messenger.
11. #9 A Jewish state without religion makes no sense
Moshe ,   Israel   (05.28.13)
Being Jewish IS a religion even though momentarily it's run by Jewish goyim.
12. Please Yaalon, Stay Strong, for the Sake of Jewish Unity.
Mo ,   Jerusalem   (05.28.13)
Do not trust BB, he will stab you in the back.
13. responsible?
(05.28.13)
Let me get this straight. A boorish Lapid decides to use the charedim as a scapegoat and makes it the single issue of his party. Yaalon, the defense minister, says hold your horses, you're going to create more problems then solutions. then good ol' BB says details details details let's just go. Hu?
14. 11 Jewish state without Haredism is NOT without Torah
Logician ,   Israel   (05.28.13)
YOU are NOT TORAH!!! You're merely arrogant, illiterate and sanctimonious in thinking you are.
15. The Truth
Joe ,   Bet Shemesh   (05.28.13)
I happened to have served in Givati and did over 15 years of combat reserve. During my service I witnessed many people who were not good soldiers and should not have been in the army. Also witnessed so many Jobniks that do absolutely nothing but talk to girls all day and play on their phones. Some of the posters here suggest that the Heredi should also become Jobniks - How is this helping the state. We already have enough people who do not want to be in the army. Also by forcing a draft it will alienate any potential for the future of the Nachal Heredi to grow. This unit was started by Heredi jews without any force. Those who truly want whats best for Israel would be smart to stay far away from these ideas. The IDF in its presentation to the Peri committee said these ideas are not going to work. Now getting to the view of who is protecting Israel really - then the answer is both. All of Israels wars are fought on the spiritual level and the physical level. You need an army but just as important or more important is the Torah and the mitzvote that we keep as a nation. I would challenge anyone on this board to find out for themselves as to what is more difficult. Serving in the IDF or studying in Yeshiva all day. Studying in Yeshiva all day is much harder and I am sure that if it was forced on secular youth to go to Yeshiva they would flee from the yeshiva as quick as possible. So if you dont understand the Heredi world view or see what they are doing and respect it there is nothing to talk about.
16. military asset
Piotr Berman ,   State College, USA   (05.28.13)
As a practical matter, will haredi youngsters be a good asset for IDF? I suspect that it will be a waste. If one has to choose battles, it would be better to impose decent standards on all education sectors.
