1. I agree with Lapid...
Dror ,   Emeq Yizrael, Israel   (05.29.13)
From what I have seen there are plenty of Haredi young men that are willing and very happy to serve in our military. Reward the willing and punish those that choose to remain parasites. The army is bending over backwards to make it possible for them to serve in a Kosher Army.. NO MORE EXCUSES>>>
2. He said just the right words
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (05.29.13)
"They are out to intimidate you so they can control you." So very correct. Let's hope they respond positively to his message. The leadership, however, I know will attack him.
3. The more talk about equal....
dr harry ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.29.13)
just proves how far these people are from Judaism, TORAH. Our whole existence is because of Torah. Not 1800 students, but all of us, our LIFE, Your Life, the World exists because of TORAH. The very Weapon, Torah, which we have, you want to dismantle. This is not a burden issue, it is not a money issue and you will not admit it. The same way, you dreamers thing that the arabs want peace. How many millions were spent on those dreams. How many Jews died, how many are wounded for life. Take away all the money you want from Jews. We will survive, as we survived thousands of years. I appeal to you, to find that Jewish Torah spark within you.
4. completely agree
Viroman ,   London, England   (05.29.13)
5. Compete
Viroman ,   London, England   (05.29.13)
6. Gedolim
Yeshiva Bachur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (05.29.13)
Why on earth does Yair Lapid think any Chareidi person is going to trust him over our Gedolim who have spent there lives working on themselves to rid themselves of all bad middos and traits. Rather we should trust Lapid who was brought up in a house that hatred of Chareidim is total and who's life has been one big pursuit of pleasure. Who would you trust with your spiritual life and who really is thinking what is best for chareidim. A man who wants to uproot and destroy Chareidi society or the Gedolim who only want what is best for there followers, both body AND soul!
7. tired of Mr. Lapid's elegantly worded hate mongering...
Israel ,   Israel   (05.29.13)
He's not solving the economic issues he promised to solve instead he's adding 90,000 Israelis to the poverty roster (35,000 of them are children) and then he comes out with elegant words about sharing the burden. B'emet (Really) Mr. Lapid if you actually were listening to yourself you'd be truly as disgusted as I am!
8. Yeshiva Bachur
Dror ,   Emeq Yizrael, Israel   (05.29.13)
No more free rides bachur... You want to live in what is supposed to be a Jewish state you have to participate and fight in order to make sure it becomes and stays a Jewish state. Get your mind out of the shtetl. The shtetl is dead. Europe murdered you by the millions. STOP with the friggin Yiddish goyishe galus mentality. YIDDISH IS FRIGGIN GERMAN... YOU ARE SPEAKING THE TONGUE OF THE GODDAMN NAZIS. Quit it already and get with the program....
9. hilarious..
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (05.29.13)
In the US you have Joe the Plumber. Here in the Netherlands we got Geert Wilders' famous Henk and Ingrid, and now it seems the Israeli Riki Cohen is being joined by the latest of Lapid's creations: Haim the whippersnapper from Bnei Brak.
10. Non Religious
Moshico ,   Jerusalem   (05.29.13)
What about those non religious who get out of going in the army, if the Heradim go in the army which I agree with 100% then the non religious lazy do nothings should go in as well.
11. Do Haredim represent ultra Orthodox.?.
adi ,   Zurich   (05.29.13)
12. it is written, WORK and PROVIDE
Jean-Pierre ,   Austria   (05.29.13)
dont be a lazy... get your butt up and go to work! be a human being.. Life is a Garden..and needs to be tend to! Torah is a book of History, Poems, and Hope...not a book to sit and worship to!! you worship moses more than anything in this life.. remember what G-d said.. WORK in genesis...
13. Haredim following the law
Chaim Ben Eliezer ,   Beersheva   (05.29.13)
Mr. Lapid should know that when drafted - Haredim will follow Jewish law. What this means that if an Arab even throws a rock, or even calls a haredim soldier a name. the soldier is required to shoot him. The Haredi solidier, who follow Jewish law is also required to throw the arabs out of the country (Parshat Maasei). The thing that Lapid does not understand is that the Jewish solider, who studies Torah will act accordingly.
14. To all the ones in denial like #3,6 &7 and others !!!
Gideon78 ,   Cpt South Africa   (05.29.13)
You all are disgusting! You make as if the 18-21 year olds are the only ones studying Torah...which is false. The Torah can protect us from the learning going on by the 0-17 year olds and then 21-120 year olds...the 18-21 year olds that get exemptions would then boost the 0-120 year olds that are already studying. The 18-21 year olds conscripted to the army can study in their free time, just like any soldier that practices their hobby in their free time! Stop with this BS that the Torah will be lost, If Hesder Yeshiva students can balance between Torah and Army so can you!, stop with this BS that the Gedolim know best...because without Israel our precious Gedolim will Chas ve Chalilah be exterminated along with all of us! Stop with this BS of 90 000 will become poverty stricken...the army salary would compensate for the loss of the yeshiva grant! So money will still come into the house hold. At least now those that receive a SALARY will work for it and not receive a free grant instead! Stop the denial...it is about installing a work ethic that does not exist when people receive things for free...then you grow up in a society of expectation! Start becoming a productive part of Israeli society instead of a leech! And if you are scared to send your children to the Army, that is only normal. Do you think every Parent that sends their children into the IDF are not scared for their children? Imagine how my parents that were living in SA worried about me while I was in the Army and serving in Lebanon? If you live in the State of Israel then you need to do as everyone else does and if you are exempt for a reason medical or Yeshiva related then you do something else that can benefit the State!
15. 100% correct
alexi   (05.29.13)
lapid is dead right on conscription and education of haredi. Rabbinical leaders have done jews and israeli a disservice by neglecting self defense and broader education. As good as yaalon will be for the idf and rooting out hezbollah in the war to come, he should as other generals stay out of the political matters since his expertise is not there. This constant picture of the pleading jew being set upon by muggers has got tobe replaced by an assertive martial jew who observes but in a reasonable way
16. Agree all you like, what about the arabs?
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (05.29.13)
Why are they always protected from consequence? Free medical, free electrical, free water, free everything and you attack the Haredim? What hypocracy!
17. IDF must also change 'some' ways
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (05.29.13)
Without for a moment changing the basic format of an IDF that 'must' be geared as a fighting force, some fundamental changes still need to be done to better cater for religious Jews. For example, it is totally inappropriate to expect observant Jewish soldiers to be forced to listen and integrate with women. That is arrogrance to the extreme, and has no bearing on fighting matters at all! Does working for any institution require one to sit through a female performance in order for a job to be done more effectively? Of course not! I urgently suggest that highly visible steps are made immediately to demonstrate that non-fighting social related matters like that example are strictly kept off limits. That's not to limit female roles in the IDF, but just to show common decency and respect where it's due. The army is the army, and needs to be kept apart from social integration, which will happen in its own couse during IDF service.
18. Ricki Cohen didn't represent middle class will Haim be hared
zionist forever   (05.29.13)
Ricki Cohen owned her home & car and took 2 foreign holidays a year and Lapid claimed she represented the average middle class and his budget was designed not to hurt Ricki Cohen to bad. unfortunately she doesn't represent the middle class. Now he has dreamed up Haim who is supposed to represent a 16 year old haredi in Bnei Barak. Is Haim going to represent the average 16 year old anymore haredi anymore than Ricki Cohen represented the average secular middle class Israeli? From the sounds of it Lapid is appealing to Haim to give up his haredi lifestyle and become a non haredi he can do business with, maybe even see Lapid as his liberator from cruel rabbinical oppression. If anything Haim is going to anger the haredi community even more because now its an attack on their culture not just getting them into the army. Lapids obsession with drafting the haredi into an army has closed his mind to other options. The army is not the right atmosphere for many haredi so we should have created a civilian form of national service which we can also put the arabs and draft dodgers, if its about equal share of the burden everybody must do something. There are alot of very useful roles they could play in the civilian sector where currently they really on volunteers. Trouble is for Lapid its a personal grudge
19. Historically Jews 20 years & older went into battle, but
Moshe ,   Usa   (05.29.13)
if any man who was recently married did not "know" his wife, he was allowed to be dismissed. Also, if a man was afraid, he could also be dismissed. (History of the Jews, Solomon Grayzel)
20. voluntary army
john ,   toronto   (05.29.13)
Is war the occupation of the people. The state must teach its citizens a trade. Voluntary army is the way to serve the state. Solve the economic problem that is your job. 90000 added to poverty, reduce the number added to poverty .
21. reach your potential
oneatatime ,   Miami, USA   (05.29.13)
Not every Haredi is cut out to be a Torah Scholar. There are some who might have great ability in math or science that now will have the opportunity to do great things for themselves, their family and mankind
22. #3:What the heck does Torah have to do with unwillingness to
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.29.13)
work & participate in daily duties of citizens in any given country, especially in OUR country?! You can go on fooling yourself, but spare others this moronic diatribe. I (we) do not exist because of Torah any more than because of that meteor, that killed off dinosaurs 66 mil. years ago and thus made it possible for mammals to take over.If anything we are here&now because certain Hr.Hitler decided to finish us off in '39-'45. I am sure you don't agree, but had it not been for Shoah, we'd be ALL saying "next year in Yerushalayim" (Inshallah) as a distant dream, since your Imaginary Friend was in no hurry whatsoever to bring us here at no expense. HIS price of admission: 6.000.000!
23. Reigious people do enlist. Haredi are 2 politicians.!.Enough
adi ,   Zurich   (05.29.13)
Reigious people do enlist. Haredi are 2 politicians in opposition.
24. We hear army for all. Can we focus now on future
adi ,   Zurich   (05.29.13)
We hear army for all. Can we focus now on future
25. TORAH
Chaim Josef ,   Sweden   (05.29.13)
The Torah by itself, doesn't distinguish between Haredi and secular. The Haredi does The Haredi think they are better then the secular. This discrimination must stop
26. As a father of two very frum boys I agree 100%
Al   (05.29.13)
Its bloody time the haredi become men. They are been warped into nothings. The Rebbes are in the business of control. They couldnt care less as to the welfare of their flock. Thats what makes them so despicable. Its time for the frum to wake up, take control of their lives and shake the shakles of those who wish to imprison them to a life of poverty and want.
27. LapidlHeredim
Steve Gure USA ,   coconut creek, fl   (05.29.13)
During the Holocaust darkest hours the people came to them for advice on what to do. They were told to pray. They prayed and then they were sloughtered. They would do the same for Israel if Israel was invaded and their children were threatened. Lapid is on the right tracki
28. If You Really Want Hareidim In The Army...
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.29.13)
make a reciprocal clause in the law which mandates the learning of Torah and the Talmud in all Israeli schools. Show that this is a two-way street. They join the military, and you learn Torah. I guarantee that all the rabbis will immediately agree to this arrangement.
29. GOD commanded all the Men of Israel To Fight
Tova ,   Canada   (05.29.13)
From the time of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua all of Israel was commanded to fight the enemy. The only exemption was the High Priest who would pray for the soilders. This does not apply to the haredim. Should the Hassidic not fight they do not fulfil the promises of GOD.
30. better to leave israel to the arabs than assimilate
david ,   new york   (05.29.13)
i ask myself, what is the purpose of having a state of israel if a haredi jew has more religious freedom in america? the jewish religion is more important than a piece of real estate in the moddle east. perhaps the haredim should come to the US, live freely and let the arab growth rate take over israel (perhaps lapid and bennet wont mind living under hamas)
