1. I would get out of Syria
Ezra ,   sandiego usa   (05.30.13)
If this article is true, and the S-300 missiles are deployed, the escalation is inedible. If I lived in Syria, I would leave now, before the place becomes an ash heap.
2. Assad wants a war with Israel
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (05.30.13)
assad does not realize that israel is one of the strongest militaries in the world. whatever is left of syria would be vaporized by the jewish state.
3. Jam Sandwiches
Bertha hugeburp ,   USA   (05.30.13)
We've all heard and love Jam sandwiches, even us folk that are long pass being childish children. There is no doubt that Russians and Syrians like Jam sandwiches also. Here's what. When Israel decides to hit Syria again, whenever it wishes, then Russia and Syria both will learn what it is to have a "Jam" sandwich. It will come in the manner of "Jam" and sandwiched in between missiles that will not work & an Israeli airforce that will smash the comical Syrian military machine to bits and pieces left scattered over Syrian territory. It will be humiliating for Russia and a total defeat for Syria. Watch and see if this doesn't eventually go down like this. Ha!!!
4. 1,2 & 3 above
Gal ,   TelAviv   (05.30.13)
The above commenters 1,2 and 3 are typical armchair warriors that live in the U.S & Safe. Try living in Tel Aviv with your baby and wife then see how mouthy you are. We don't want war, killing of anyone. Syria is capable of firing missiles that can wipe out whole buildings in Tel Aviv and everyone inside. Even though I know Israel will prevail in the end and I am a proud Zionist, I do not underestimate Assad or his missiles. War is a terrible thing. Israeli soldiers put their lives on the line and each war we lose some. That's a thing to be brave about oh American poster? Making statements like "Israeli airforce that will smash the comical Syrian military machine to bits and pieces left scattered over Syrian territory" is just annoying and childish. Grow up and get real, this is war and ultimately Israeli soldiers and civillians will also suffer!
5. Swords into Plowshares
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (05.30.13)
Whatever the actual status is of the delivery of these new toys is, the fact remains that the timeline to permanently shift the dynamic of the Syrian situation to a more positive configuration is the next six months. Before the S-300's become operational they will need to be delivered, unpacked and installed. Operators will then need to be trained. This is going to take at least half a year. Taking a higher perspective perhaps the message here is, when is the "Swords into plowshares" dynamic going to kick in properly in the Middle East?
6. Prophecies being fulfilled
Dror ,   Emeq Yizrael, Israel   (05.30.13)
Isaiah 17. This is incredible... 18 countries coalescing in Jordan. No fly zone soon to be declared.. This is hilarious. Those S-300s cannot defeat low flying undectable Tomahawk missiles. The US Navy has tons of those Tomahawks. Israel should play it cool.. America is going to have to get rid of those S-300s in order to enforce the No Fly Zone and start the bombing campaign. Can anyone say Assad kiss your a** goodbye?
7. I always thought that
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.30.13)
in an effort to sound like they new more than they actually did. Israeli politicians lie to the media, one of the reasons we ended up in Iraq chasing around for non existent WMD's
8. #1 If the stories are true
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.30.13)
and there is no reason to doubt the word of both the Russian and Syrian government. It will be confirmed by foreign airlines upping their prices to Israel as the insurance premium soars. I presume at some point today Netanyahu will spit his dummy out throw his rattle out the pram, maybe even stamp his feet. What is becoming clear, is that the Israeli Government doesn't know nearly as much about what is going on in Syria as they are trying to make out
9. Gulf Arabs want Assad gone
Dror ,   Emeq Yizrael, Israel   (05.30.13)
The Gulf Arab Oil states have it in for A**head. They want to weaken Iran. They always send their mercs to do their dirty work. 911 was their handiwork along with the criminal shadow govt in the US. Let them bury themselves along with the rest of the barabric Arab world. Their true colors are shining through.. Al Qaeda = ALCIADA
10. Will Russia pay for the reconstruction of Syria?
Mark ,   London, UK   (05.30.13)
If Assad manages to carry on thanks to Russian intervention, will his sponsors pay for the reconstruction. They have a great record in nation building.
11. $5 - per reliable documentation ...
spyguy ,   Seattle   (05.30.13)
once an S-300 system is on the ground, a Russian crew can have it operational within 30 minutes. Your window has closed. All they have to do is roll it off the plane, and set it up at the airport and it will be ready to knock down aircraft over Lebanon and Syria.
12. #4 - I share your worry
spyguy ,   Seattle   (05.30.13)
I am a US Vet and have spent more time in combat zones than I care to think about. All these people that think Israel can painlessly start a war with Syria, Iran, Russia or whoever are just flat out delusional. The REALITY is the world is now awash in low cost and very effective weapons equal to or better than anything Israel has or can get. Israel has reached the limits of its military and the next war could be very devastating for the Israeli homeland. For the sake of you and your family, I hope the Israeli government understands its limits and does not start something others will finish. Good luck. If things get too hot, please evacuate your family quickly, don't wait.
13. #7 how was your smoke today?
Isac   (05.30.13)
You are completely disillusional. Could you bring proof when exactly a Israeli politician stated anything about Iraqi weapons?! On the other hand, yes the KGB, the MI6 and the CIA all conclusively said that there must be weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. At no point did Israel get involved. Hello???!!@@ However, Israel will be capable to deal with the Syrian threat no matter who is going to her future enemy.
14. #4
Doives ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.30.13)
Very well put. Yom Hazikaron knows enough hart breaking stories already.
15. We are not going to do your work for you, #6
Cameron ,   USA   (05.30.13)
The Syrian mess is yours to get hands-on with. Hezbollah convoys are one thing, these S-300 weapons batteries quite another. Interesting moments ahead. All the luck to you.
16. The whole situation should be
Never   (05.30.13)
summarized in a few points: 1. Why do the Russians insist so much, exactly now, when Assad is perceived by the whole world as a regular assassin, to arm him with state-of-the-art missiles? 2. What do the Russians want to prove to the USA and the NATO countries? 3. Do the Russians want to teach everyone a lesson, namely it is good to kill your own people like Assad does? 4. Are the Russians interested in a new turn of power/situation in the Middle East by allowing the Iranians to do however they please in the Middle East? 5. Finally, will the US and NATO forces/countries contemplate all these events until a new conflagration should break out and let all hell break loose? 6. Will Israel ever jeopardize her people's existence because Assad, Ahmadinejad and Nassralah so want? The answer is NEVER.
17. # 4 Gai, Tel Aviv
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (05.30.13)
It isn't the 'armchair warriors ' you have to worry about is it? It is the same constant parade of 'Arab/Muslim' states' ( same war different faces ) that are Israel's greatest threat assembled into one horde of Islamic non 'armchair warriors' headed towards Israel. Seems to me that you should thank G-d that they are currently bashing one another's brains out rather than to unite and march against Israel. The posters you chide are justly proud of Israel's record, yes I understand your fear to fight, who the hell wants war? Israel has not started any war it is the choice of others ( pals, hamas, AlQIsrael has no other option but to fully protect herself because of the never ending threats from her tribal brutal neighbors every one suffers in war, you of all people know that best. War is hell losing is worse. For Israel, it is fatal. You chose a rough neighborhood, these posters support you and Israel. Keep the faith and please, KEEP BUILDING !!!!!!
18. #16 Never
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.30.13)
The Russians have invested Billions of Roubles in the deep water Port at Tartus, it is central to their presence in the Mediterranean. Protecting your investment is exactly what you would do in the same circumstances, andwith Israel mounting air raids on Syria and existing Syrian air defences shown not to be up to the task. Russia has made the moves required to upgrade the protection of their investment If you want to blame anyone for the present situation then blame Netanyahu, who wanted a military action to give him wriggle room when he visited Washington, where it is all talk of the two state solution
19. Reading the BBC News website
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.30.13)
The S-300 can be operational within 5 minutes of being unloaded off the plane. Wondering if the Israeli defence minister still knows what to do, or was he bluffing yesterday
20. Murky Red lines
observer   (05.30.13)
Obama's murky, pinkish-reddish-orange line, is not just Obama's but everyones. Basically no one wants to get involved in Syria and all threats whether by the USA or Israel like "if you do this ... it would be a game changer"... all these threats are bluffs. Assad is doing everything under the sun, including using chemical weapons on his people, transferring very advanced weapons to Hezbollah as well as importing very high tech missiles from Russia. Soon Israel's Air Force won't be able to fly over Lebanon anymore.
21. If Assad is still thinking
2Mad ,   גולה בצרפת   (05.30.13)
about friendship, he would better remember Ceaușescu, Milošević, Hussein and Gaddafi, and decide : "Hey, let's not touch those missiles, there, soon they'll be gone, and if nasrallah is crazy enough to get them - too bad, i kind of liked nasrallah."
22. Really? - Dont believe what you read!
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne - UK   (05.30.13)
What Damascus Say and what Israel know - two different things - I trust the Mosad and Israel security services who are doing Great Job to keep Israel safe - From me and anyone who care about Israel - BIG THANK YOU
23. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.30.13)
Oh, stop already. Depending on the United States is, to us, like depending upon a scorpion not to sting the elephant that ferries it across the water. Please. The best the United States can do is to stay out of Israel's way. Whatever in the world will you do when we grow tired of constantly pulling your chestnuts out of the coals? Tell me -- what kind of a war would the United States have had in 1991 had not Israel taken out Iraq's nuclear reactor? How many Americans did not come home in body bags, thanks to Israel. Have you ever stopped to think about that, lad?
24. #18, all's fine and beautiful, but the
Never   (05.30.13)
essential question is: What will Israel do in all this dangerous political vortex caused by the Syrians, Hezbollah, the Iranians and their patrons, the Russians? Meantime, I guess, Israel will outsmart these state-of-the-art S 300 missiles hopefully, sooner than later and render them obsolete. But then the situation won't get much better anyway because all the above still remain blood-thirsty and keep on pursuing their passion of destroying Israel. The best solution is to sit down and talk reason, but again, this option has been long deleted from the Iranian, the Syrian, the Hizzbollah and Palestinian brains. Long live reason !
25. No 20, that will never happen.

26. There is only one spiecies,,
Ricky ,   The Bronx   (05.30.13)
There is only one spiecies, group of people,,, entity on our planet that can cause this much confusion, conflict, discord, bloodshed and deception. The issue was and is for Bashar Assad to ceede power, just one m.f. man, wicked and murderous like his father,, and his regime,,,, this thing has spiraled to the Golan, to Lebanon, to Gaza(Hamas), to China, to Russia, to the U.S., Israel=Iran and any and every evil dark hidden force that see's an advantage based on the confusion of all this,,,, all this over one m.f. man that has murdered a people of Holocaust reaching proportions. We've been there before and we were reminded by the image seen in a "cofee pot" just the other day. Who supported Hitler, who backed this man, this is so simlilar to Bashar Assad. There is only one group of people that can cause this much confusion on our planet,,,, may you people find G-d and seek refuge in him,,, satan's last role and job is to take no prisoners nor will there be redemption.
27. Why is Israel helping the muslim brotherhood??
Ccc ,   Liberia   (05.30.13)
No one seems to be addressing the burning issue at hand. Why is Israel bombing Assad's forces, and helping the 'rebels' who are actually the Muslim Brotherhood? MB already has Egypt and a few others. Assad might not be perfect, but there are far worse enemies to have. I'm sure this will be viciously denied, but the fact is US/Israel are arming the rebels.
28. 23,
anton ,   istanbul   (05.30.13)
well i guess after uss liberty israelis tend to think they have right to send americans to home in body bags, right? :) btw your likening usa to scorpion and i assume israel to elephant is hilarious, for they are the one who stands between you and im sure you know what :) such an ungratefulness can only be fruit of huge arragonce which is one the seven great sin , maybe not in judaism i dont know :) give the credit where credit is due and stop over playing your hand maybe just maybe you think you are doing good work speaking tough thinking this enviroment requires this but how far your posturing will take you? be tough but know your limits it saves lives in most curcimtances, israeli leadership certainly knows this i still think you are smart person sarah but along the way you are getting confused since i get the feeling that you accully belive what you write the world is not against you but nobody want to be friend with sulky sniffy people, thats aproblem right thre i am sure building contractor build baby would agree with me :)
29. Ccc its not about,,,,
Charles, M. ,   Landover, MD.   (05.30.13)
Ccc its not about Israel, the U.S., Iran, Syria, Russia, A-Qaeeda, Muslim Brotherrhood, China, terrorism, Lebanon, Hizbullah, Turkey, Jordan, the moon, Afrrican immagrants, Honey Boo Boo, U.F.O.s or even if I gotta change my dirty draws this morning,,,,, its abouut a humanity being murdered and slaughtered by a man, an insane murderous bloodsheddder that has destroyed his country and wwants to be president for life.
30. #21 2 Mad that's the point
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (05.30.13)
Nasrallah doesn't need to have ownership. The S-300 can protect Lebanon from Syria, and if the rumours are correct, and the recent airstrikes were achieved from using stand off missiles fired from Lebanese airspace Then Syria would be perfectly in their rights to fire on what it would perceive as a threat in a neighbouring country Also handy if there is a defence pack between Lebanon and Syria
