31. Wages of war
Yoel larry ,   New York   (06.01.13)
Sixty five years of Arab terror against Israeli Jews and the Arab writer condemns Israel for protecting its Jewish citizens and for maybe being guilty of resentment and suspicion of those it has every reason to resent and suspect. Ho hum. Any more complaints, Lucy?
32. Segregated education creates a "racist land"
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (06.01.13)
All public schools must be integrated to receive public funding.
33. Godwin's 2nd. Law /s
Tom W ,   USA   (06.01.13)
"Godwin's law" - (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies) - states that in internet conversations comparisons to Hitler and the Nazis sooner or later will be used to silence opposing parties. The newest buzzword that the leftists hurling at everybody is "RACIST!" "RACIST!" - the purpose is the same: to de-legitimize and shame everybody who is not towing the "Party line". It can be called frivolously as "Godwin's 2nd. Law" Discerning people ought to ignore these neo-Marxist propagandists because their vacuous sloganeering is part of the "Culture War" the international left is pursuing both in the U.S. and the PC European Union.
34. so where are the jews in the middle east
Kate ,   Sydney   (06.01.13)
Amazing how the writer decries arabs in Israel but fails to mention no (to a handful) of jews in the rest of the middle east- now that's discrimination.
35. Live by our Jewish and liberal value not theirs
Avramele   (06.01.13)
When we established a state we committed ourselves in the declaration of independence to the highest standards of equality regardless of race, religion etc. Any objective observer would admit that Israel does not live up to these ideals and an intelligent observer would say that without such equality the Jewish state is in existential danger.
36. It's called public safety
Abu Zib ,   Haifa, IL   (06.01.13)
Sorry it's not racism, it's public safety. Many Arab children behave like animals and like litte Assads. Western countries adopt a similar approach by the way.
37. To: Lucy
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.01.13)
Why don't you put your questionable research "talents" to the task of quantifying Arab acts of terror against Jews? Tell me -- how many Jews have cold-bloodedly massacred children in a school? (Ma'alot). How many Jews have cold-bloodedly slit the throats of a sleeping family of five -- including a three month old infant? I can go on, and on, and on, and on. The information is easily available on the Internet. Ersatz "Palestinian" shocking acts of violence, terror and sheer bestial behavior is all too well documented. That said -- if you find life in Eretz Israel so objectionable, why don't you just leave? We're not going anywhere. Get with the program, or get the f**k lost. No one will miss you. Did we not, after all, win all the wars? Were they not, after all, started by Arabs? Please. Try accepting responsibility for the despicable actions of your people. Until you do that, you will forever be a whiny bunch of violent terrorists. Frankly, dear, we have had quite enough of you. Your disgusting and blood-drenched past (Jewish blood, of course) speaks volumes. You're pathetic pleas fall on deaf ears -- ask yourself why.
38. People...back to the classroom. NOW!!
rob ,   orangevale USA   (06.01.13)
Racism: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. No. No that's different than hating somebody for killing or attempting to kill someone you love or destroy your way of life. The Jewish nation is an educated one and should plainly see the difference. I have no problem killing an enemy that tries to harm my nation or my family. That is not racism. I don't care if you are white, black, brown, yellow, green or polka dot. I will not stand by and watch as a true racist insults, hurts, attempts to murder or harms anyone solely based on his/her skin color, ethnicity or religious belief. If you need a permanent example of racism personified, you have no farther to go than Hitler.(may he burn in hell forever) Black on white racism is old and played out.(as are the shades within) There are no reasons to believe a black man cannot achieve anything a white men can. There is no reason to believe a Muslim cannot achieve with the Jew. It comes down to education. Hurtling "racism" at every turn only shows ignorance. There are loving people on all sides of the spectrum but they are suppressed so they cant interfere with their own govts master plan. The fact that ignorance plays such a pervasive hand and all the stupid name calling isn't helping. Hashem commands we turn the other cheek. Don't claim to follow HIM, until you can meet this first criteria. Again, to call the kettle black is stupid when you are yourself black. Shalom Israel, rob
39. Racist?
David ,   USA   (06.01.13)
Israel is imperfect. Other places r much worse. What makes Israel great is that it can be self-reflective. Israel can be better. Proof is it's relentless self criticism. Comparing oneself to the Arab states is setting too low a bar.
40. Bottom Line
MICHAEL ,   MASS, USA   (06.01.13)
IN ISRAEL THERE IS FREDOM OF SPEECH... THERE IS NOT ONE PALESTINIAN OR ARAB NEWSPAPER ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD THAT WOULD ALLOW TO BE PUBLISHED A COMPARABLE OP ATRICLE FROM A DIFFERENT JEWISH OR ISRAELI PRESPECTIVE.
41. Jewish and Arab schools asked for the separate days.
ben Yisrael ,   tel Aviv   (06.01.13)
Do your homework.
42. #32 How long did it take the United States of America,
A ,   Belgium   (06.01.13)
the worlds greatest democracy,to integrate their schools, Bena$$hole, 200 years or so? And are they all integrated? Hell, no! Keep your one-sided judgements to yourself and tend to your bedpans.
43. To: No. 32
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.01.13)
Once again, your ignorance comes shining through. It is the Arabs in Israel who demanded -- and received -- separate schools. Their curriculum is pathetically lacking, but Israel's attempts to improve the curriculum and broaden its scope was met with cries of outrage from the Arab community. What would you have us do? Force our will upon them? Forcibly integrate the schools and close down separate Arab teaching facilities? Then, you would be all over the State of Israel for imposing its will over Arab "culture." By the way -- there are a great many Arab families in Israel who have spurned Arab-only schools, and enrolled their children in Jewish schools. But you choose to ignore that, don't you? It doesn't fit your misguided impressions of the State of Israel. So why don't you just take a hike? You are completely ignorant about the State of Israel, and your posts only serve to underscore your incredible lack of knowledge.
44. sarah, I'll help you out with "quantifying"
elke ,   USA   (06.01.13)
Arab acts of terror against Jews -- and vice versa. And yes, the statistics are readily available on the Internet: Number of Israelis killed by fire from Gaza between January 1st 2012 and November 11th 2012: 1 (Source: Wikipedia) Number of Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israeli fire during the same period: 78 (Source: United Nations) Number of Israelis killed by fire from Gaza, November 13th-19th 2012: 3 (Source: press reports) Number of Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israeli fire, November 13th-19th: 95 (Source: IDF) Number of those killed in Gaza under 15 years of age: 19 (Source: press reports) Total number of Israelis killed by rocket, mortar or anti-tank fire from Gaza since 2006: 47 (Source: Wikipedia. This is disputed; another source says 26) Number of Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israeli fire from April 1st 2006 to July 21st 2012: 2,879 (Source: United Nations)
45. To N 28, Chaim
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (06.01.13)
Dear Chaim. Not all Arab people want to destroy Israel. Not all Arab people are fundamentalistic Muslims. You must, of course, be firm against the bad aggressors, but never confounding them with the ones who respect the rules. I know your Basic Law, wrote in 1948, that rules equal rights to all citizens, independent of ethnic or religious origins. Uphold it, please.
46. segregated schools
L ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.01.13)
it's not surprising there's segregation at Superland.... after all there's segregation in the schools too (Arabs and Jews), but apparently that's not racist at all. serious case of double standards here.
47. Israel is not perfect ???
rjh ,   tel aviv   (06.01.13)
Lucy you say Israel is not perfect.... but in millions of Jews minds Israel is a clear second to perfection only coming in second to OUR ONE TRUE G-d who is perfection in the worlds mind, unless you are a moslem or Christian, who have their own gods they worship behind their idols jesus and mohammed.
48. racism : the proof is in .....
patrick a.hammel ,   zermatt, switzerland   (06.01.13)
the pudding !!! Just imagine that Israel would show a little bit of TIKKUN OLAM by showing what a great nation it is. How ? simple ! by allowing 10000 children up to the age of 12 from Syria to come and spend their summer vacation in Israel. There must be a least 10000 Israeli families who have their hearts in the right place and who would consider takin a Syrian child into their home so that their own children could share the joy of making new friends, witnessing that nothing has to be taken for granted, that Arab children are no different at all than their own ! Just imagine the effect this could have on the BDS movement, on the septics abroad about ISRAELI intentions,on the Jihadists increasing intolerant speech and on the western world perception of what Isarel stands for while Hezbollah is sharing the guilt for the murder of Syrian children !!! It would change the Middle East forever and it will bring the support for the Palestinians to a minimum! The time is now, the Isaeli borders must be opened to Syrian children. The proof od Isaeli generosity is in the sharing of falafels with those children, for their sake and ours !!!!!!
49. To N 3, Devorah
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (06.01.13)
Dear Devorah, I also believe that the refered article is exxagerated. But we, true Democrats and Christians, who love Israel and her excellent roots and principles, become sad for racist events that have occurred some times. Bad enemies must be fought firmly, but without confusion with Arab people who respect Law and Order. I am sure you agree with me. Salutes.
50. Stop frustrating the Arab
Fred ,   Petach Tikva   (06.01.13)
The Arab will never feel at home in a Jewish country. Israel can never let him serve in the Army. Israel can not deal with rock throwers. Israel can not deal with wild Arab teenagers at the amusement park. Why can't Jewish children have a fun day at the park. Separation is the most humane solution.
51. #4 and #6
Maurice ,   Montreal   (06.01.13)
Both excellent comments!
52. racism is already flowing through its veins
Marcel ,   San Jose, Costa Rica   (06.01.13)
Ms Aharish needs her pulse checked. I read her column with great interest and began shaking my head after the first paragraph. The lady is on drugs.
53. #48 It wouldn't make a bit of difference to
A ,   Belgium   (06.01.13)
Lady Ashton, the EU, Preident Oblabla, Putin, Cameron...keep naming them. The fact that Israel allows "palestinians" to sit in their "apartheid" government doesn't make an impression, the fact that Israel allows African moslem "refugees" to terrorize S. Tel Aviv doesn't make a difference, the fact that in the 70's then PM Menachem Begin, the greatest leader Israel ever had, welcomed the Vietnamese boat people to Israel, who no other country would accept, with the words..."we were refugees, we can't turn away these people", who remembers that? Isn't the fact that the children of "palestinian" terrorists and Syrian rebels are treated in Israeli hospitals enough for you? Welcome them to Switzerland than, along with 10,000 Syrian children!
54. Arabs just don,t understand. The chosen
BDS   (06.01.13)
can do NO wrong, everything jews do is blessed by G-d.
55. Isreali/Arabs killed
alan ,   ohio   (06.01.13)
Equivalency as defined by Hamas 1000 to 1 therefore Israel has been judicious and should have killed more but has shown restraint based upon the Shalit deal. They, Hamas defined the value of Arabs to Jews. So, #44 go to hell!!!
56. there is a good reason for separation
Fred ,   Petach tikva   (06.01.13)
Jewish patrons of Superland coming with their families have complained numerous times in past seasons of being intimidated by Arab youths, who start fights with Jewish youths, steal money from them, push ahead in line, and call out anti-Semitic slogans. There have been confrontations between student groups from Arab and Jewish schools in past seasons as well.
57. #49 - Luis Haddad
Devorah   (06.01.13)
Judge, I have no problem with those who respect and abide by the law whether Jew, Arab, Martian or whatever. Shalom.
58. Just the facts Ma'am
Sagi   (06.01.13)
said Sergeant Joe Friday, remember Dragnet. Ahkenazi v. Sephardi, segregation. Different kindergartens, schools, synagogues etc. Ethiopians not admitted to certain schools etc. Arab schools and Jewish schools. Whole towns built exclusively for Ultra Orthodox. Municipal areas where certain people are refused entry as tenants or owners. Rural communities where there is an acceptance committee and many are refused. Women segregated and sometimes even proscribed and spat upon. Just the facts Ma'am.
59. Sugar land
Carole ,   New York usa   (06.02.13)
Lucy is so right. It is not about discrimination against Arabs it is about the Ashkenazi superiority to everyone. Remember jews who came from predominantly Arab countries were considered Arab Jews.israel must end 65 years of looking down its long nose
60. It breaks my heart
Benayoun ,   Paris.France   (06.02.13)
I'm french and jewish . I support Israel and have always done so. It breaks my heart to learn about racism In israel . For me it's surprising that in Israel racism is so deeply rooted. However i must admit that in France It's more or less the same. I just thought that in Israel It would be different .Now i know that it's not and i feel sad about it.
