I am amazed at all the talk about how women are treated in Palestinian society. Having lived in Israel for five years, the orthodox Jews treat their wives the exact same way. Women must ride in the back of the bus, wear ridiculously long sleeves and long tights in 90 degree heat so not to tempt the poor uncontrollable men, and have few rights in a Bet Din court. I could go on for pages of what happened to me and my children while living there. Israelis are just as patriarchal as the Arabs they just don't admit it.Israelis pride themselves on being so progressive but any of the religious ones turn the clock back just as far as the Arabs. I was never treated with such disdain and disrespect until I lived in Israel. Being Jewish is one thing and being Israeli Jewish is a totally different thing all together. I was so embarrassed to be a Jew while living in Israel. Their behavior in general is a DISGRACE!! I couldn't wait to get the H*** out of that crazy country. Israel is not lily white in this dispute with the PA. I used to see Arab men rounded up in a wired pen where they were held all day in the hot sun. Their crime was coming into Israel looking for an honest days work. I trusted the Arabs who constructed my home far more than my crazy Haredi neighbors. They were more loyal too. Israel screams abut collective guilt and punishment of Jews but they then do the exact same thing to the Arabs. If one PA does a bad thing, they turn off the electric and water to the entire camp. My Christian friends went for a trip there and were absolutely horrified with the conditions of the Palestinian ares and how they were daily harassed in horrific drab stations every time they tried to go past the wall. I wouldn't know. Despite my very best efforts, I remain around 20 pounds underweight. It doesn't do my health any good -- low blood sugar, very low blood pressure -- wish I knew what to do; I've been trying long enough. Can't gain weight. No matter how hard I try, and I do try.
