1. Wicked generation
Dror ,   Haifa, Israel   (06.04.13)
Peres is behaving like Mari Antoinete. Obama has long ago turned into King Louis the 16th. These guys do think they are royalty... the guillotines are being sharpened...
2. Half a Million Dollars ?
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (06.04.13)
What would Bill Clinton be saying in his speeches in Israel to make him earn half a million dollars ? Would he be delivering a new divine message to bring us peace here ? Or perhaps he would take it as an opportunity to tell us more about his affairs with women especially Paula Jones whom he harassed and Monica Lewinsky with him he secretly had affairs which he denied for seven months before admitting that he lied to his wife and to the American people ? I wonder if Albert Einstein ever got a reward of half a million dollars in his life...
3. Peres : Purge the insult to Shoa Victims
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (06.04.13)
JNF money wasted when Shoa victims have no money for food once they buy needed medicine Slick Willie answer that he donates to charity, is meaningless: Amnesty , Oxfam Etc all charities that are antisemetic Peres : the only decent thing you can do is to cancel. If you have any honor or pride that is If you were that special, people would come to Laud you for free.
4. barnea's column on JNF and Peres
mikeT ,   jerusalem, Israel   (06.04.13)
1/2 million dollars for street walker 'Clinton' , advisor to Barack and Hilliary is way above his pay grade. Shimon has no shame, must be old age. He should have taken Ezer Weizmann's advice a long time ago and retired.
5. Peres - stop this before it happens!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.04.13)
All of this money for the JNF to waste on Clinton? This is a total waste of needed funds. There are so many better causes for which these funds could have been used in Israel.
6. Is it hard to understand ?
Nora Tel Aviv   (06.04.13)
Clinton receives $ 500.000 for a speech at Peres`s birthday and... Peres will receive "an applause" for a speech at Clinton`s birthday. Fair enough ain`t it ?
7. he really is not half as popular as you make him out to be
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (06.04.13)
8. Who are you talking about?
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (06.04.13)
What Perez? Oh, you mean the liar, kniver, always willing to sell Israel down the river? That one I know. The one you mention, never saw him, never existed. Perez has brought more shame, death and destruction with his stupid Oslo garbage then anyone since WWll. Barnea either wake up or stop lying to us and yourself.
9. The end of Orwell's Animal Farm is appropriate here:
Bruno ,   Haifa   (06.04.13)
"No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which." Far too much money being spent ... the JNF should back down
10. #4:He should've taken Weitzmans example 100% :-)
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.04.13)
11. Not gonna read these opinion pages anymore!
Tim ,   Israel   (06.04.13)
That's twice in two days that I've read nonsense in this opinion page! I think Ynet should have a re-think about what they publish. Yesterday is was the crap about the S-300 rockets. Today it's somebody complaining about a birthday party! Seriously!?!?!
12. Who put this IDIOT as president?
Levi K ,   Bet Shemesh   (06.04.13)
Not me and not you. He did not get elected and doesnt represent the people. who ever appointed him plus peres, should be deported to somewhere else than G-d's Holy land. Let them have the fate of the spies of this weeks portion of Torah. Let his tongue dececend to his navel and be infected with magots like the spies. loshen horah
13. "Let them eat cake!"
Meira ,   TA   (06.04.13)
14. Obscene waste of money
Barrieg ,   Zichron Yaakov   (06.04.13)
The man enjoys center stage! he's an embarrasment. Force him into a home for senior citizens. With his many talents, maybe he could be in charge of the cultural activities. The enormous sum of money referred to could easily be utilised for charitable causes in the Country. Happy birthday and retirment Mr President, enough is enough!!
15. Peres's bash
Abe4u ,   Haifa Israel   (06.04.13)
Clinton can only be an ex spurt on how to wow young women when one is in power. What good is his speech gonna do? We already have an ex president who tried his hand amongst other appendixes of his body to woo the ladies. We want to thank and celebrate peres's birthday ? Give him a bash "al ha ash "and then ask him to tell us what really happened the day that his good friend sic was supposedly assassinated..
16. Its one thing spending on a birthday bash
Tim ,   Brighton   (06.04.13)
Its another using the money and donations to mark his birthday and his very special contribution and service by building a lasting legacy for Israel Peres Park Peres Auditorium Peres Library Peres Forest
17. These people...
Israeli ,   Haifa   (06.04.13)
They think they are so important they can spend that much money on THEMSELVES for something like a birthday party????? It's a sign to me that the end is indeed near.
18. Donors to the JNF
Idfmom ,   jerusalem   (06.04.13)
I will gladly supply you with a list of organizations that MAKE A DIFFERENCE in Israel from personal experience and our president would be grateful that you gave to these incredible institutions! No party included though!
19. WOW, you guys have no shame!
ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (06.04.13)
on your birthdays you guys don't give a damn who pays for it and spare no expense, as long as you have a good birthday with all of your friends. a public figure like Peres should be allowed the same standard as you all allow yourselves, and in fact even more so! and there is my opinion! just as valid!
20. Another joins the list
Eli ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (06.04.13)
Weitzman{ E}, Katzav and now the prince of pomposity, Peres. Something is wrong here.
21. Peres should be celebrated!
Mark ,   Cleveland USA   (06.04.13)
Shimon Peres is a national treasure who is among the last of Israel's great generation, who had a direct hand in the shaping of the State we proudly call home. It is a shame that all the modern hawks, who seem to view the entire world as their enemy and who seem to be pursuing a path that can only bring about war, have no understanding of the value of peace, and don't recognize the greatness of those who chase after it.
22. No Tax Exemption due to "physicians from the Gaza Strip"
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (06.04.13)
"The Israel Tax Authority denied the Peres Center's request for tax-exempt status in Israel. According to Haaretz, after the center applied for the tax-exempt status the Tax Authority demanded that the organization stop funding the training of the physicians from the Gaza Strip in Israeli hospitals. The demand led the organization to suspend its application rather than stop the project.
23. Fitting waste of money for egotists
Ilan   (06.04.13)
It is so in character that Clinton demands $500,000 to say something nice about Peres and that Peres is willing to take public funds for that purpose
24. Barnea tries to cover too many bases.
bobk ,   orlando us   (06.04.13)
$500k for Clinton is grossly excesive. That's a lot of cake! As a central figure in the Oslo Accords he ought to be hornored to attend.Who gets paid to go to someone's b'day party? - Clinton should be bringing gifts not taking them. But the rest of Barnea's 'lament is unbalanced. Who exactly are the "shady" characters he claims are seeking to 'clear their names'? As for the JNF being "strange" - it seems to be a good organization - millions of trees planted, reservoirs built, etc. But why they would even think of paying for Clinton is absurd unless he can help them raise a lot of money. And why would Barnea think the JNF should consider reducing the deficit? Let the Ministry of Finance learn from the JNF how to create a surplus. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRESIDENT PERES!!!
25. If the fund has billions
K ,   Chicago, USA   (06.04.13)
They don't need money from me. They are permanently off of my charity list. There are other Jewish/Israeli charities I can give to.
26. Golda Meir could party around a kitchen table which is where
Rivkah   (06.04.13)
the term "kitchen cabinet" for ministers came into vogue.
27. 21.
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.04.13)
Peres is a national disaster. If he had his way he would give hallf of ''your'' Israel back to your buddies the pallies. When you make aliyah to Israel, then & only then can you include yourself as an Israeli, until then do put a sock in it. You holier than thou attitude sucks.
28. Cutbacks all over the place...
Get Real ,   UK   (06.04.13)
How much are Streisand and De Niro getting?
29. Shameful to pay Clinton $1,000,000
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (06.04.13)
It is a disgrace to pay Bill Clinton one million dollars to honor Shimon Peres. If Clinton is so enraptured by President Peres he should speak for free. Take the one million dollars and give a third to Meir Panim to feed the hungry in Israel, give a third to Yad Sarah to help the elderly and infirmed in Israel, and give a third to Israeli charities that help disabled children. This would be a much more fitting way to honor Shimon Peres.
30. Celebrate Peres' birthday with Oslo action lawsuit.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.04.13)
The most fitting way to celebrate Peres' birthday would be a class action lawsuit seeking compensation for thousands of Israelis maimed and murdered due to the criminal negligence of Peres and Labor.
