1. Best and most viable solution
tauri   (06.05.13)
Turkey should do what it can to help Muslims and resolve regional problems. the Hatay province also known as Antakya should be created as a new state for Palestinian/Syrian and other Muslim refugees in the region. turkey would greatly benefit in the long run and the state in Antakya would become prosperous even more than Lebanon or Israel. This would reduce dependance on foreign meddling and would perhaps usher a new chapter in history for our people.
2. Shameful and sickening
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (06.05.13)
For America to stand by and do nothing and allow the dictator Assad to win is a major defeat for any possible solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict and for any hopes of ending Iran's drive for a nuclear weapon. Allowing Assad, Hezbollah, and Iran to win is a major blow to Jordan, to any Lebanese who wanted to be free from the yoke of Hezbollah, and is a defeat for Israel because the battle hardened Hezbollah troops will eventually try to retake the Golan but this time with advanced Russian anti aircraft missiles there to prevent Israeli warplanes from attacking Syria and defending Israeli soldiers. This has to be the greatest debacle of the Obama Presidency and if Assad does win a major defeat for America, Israel, and all those seeking peace and stability in the region. Shame on America for allowing the fact that America should never have gotten involved in a war with Iraq to cloud its judgement so badly about everything else.
3. western intervention will backfire & make things worse
zionist forever   (06.05.13)
This war is not going to end overnight just because through the use of no fly zones or sending weapons to rebels its going to lead to a quick downfall of Assad and peace and stability in Syria taking it down the path to democracy. The first thing that will happen after Assad goes is these rebels are going to go on a killing spree in Alawite heartlands out of revenge. Assad supporters will unite into their own mini rebel army so we will have sectarian violence. When Assad knows its all over he may decide to use his chemical weapons go down in a blaze of glory kill large numbers of his own his enemies who brought him down and of course the zionist entity, kill large numbers of Israelis and what he has done at home will be forgiven and he will be remembered as a hero. So intervention risks large scale chemical weapons use and this war going regional. If that happens even if Bibi was under strict orders from Obama to stay out there will be to much pressure from the general public to do what Obama tells him and when that happens its out the frying pan into the fire for the region, Western intervention will also turn into a long term project helping with security in Syria, trying to destroy WMDS and of course financing the rebuilding of the country. To do that it means boots on the ground and so I imagine we will be seeing some soldiers coming home in body bags. and the western governments having to find billions of dollars to rebuild because Assad has near bankrupted the country and the arabs certainly don't look after their own and will expect the west to provide the bulk of the rebuilding money. Leave this civil war to play out and it will stay local and when its over its over, they will instal a government of their own choosing even if its not an elected one and nobody will be demanding western fund the rebuilding. Iraq backfired, Afghanistan backfired, Libya backfired, this part of the world is not Europe and old cold war doctrines do not apply.
4. Support Ballot Box not Rebels
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (06.05.13)
No country in the world would allow a bunch of "rebels" to take over a town. The UN, US, western and regional players should be making this clear to any rebel movements. Arming the rebels will only bring more bloodshed. The quicker Assad defeats these rebels the fewer lives in the long run will be lost as well the more secure the region will be. The is just common sense. I don't have to be there to make this observation.
5. Indifferent
Cameron ,   USA   (06.05.13)
Sunni & Shiite wankers locked in a death grip is fine by me. We have no friends or allies lurking anywhere in that whole Syrian dump.
6. >3 weeks to take small city
Dmitry ,   Israel   (06.05.13)
It's amazing how the Syrian army, helped by thousands of Hezbollah, is taking this long to capture such a small city. And they don't even have to be worried about civilian casualties, but keep suffering losses. This might be a Pyrrhic victory; especially if it causes jihad back home in Lebanon for Hezbollah.
7. Hope we keep out of this mess!
American Hindu ,   USA   (06.05.13)
Am sorry for all the innocents killed or hurt by this war. However I hope the US has the sense to keep out of this one.

If Obama gets involved in this mess even if its just sending weapons or helping enforce a no fly zone once Assad goes its going to get alot more problematic. To bring any sort of stability and safely deal with the chemical weapons it will mean US troops on the ground and the Syrians don't like you guys anymore than they like Assad so they will get shot at. Of course there is also the one problem everybody will expect the US to solve MONEY. Its going to take a good $100 billion to rebuild and probably be lucky if the arabs donated 10% and the US will be expected to donate the rest. Get involved and its potentially long and expensive commitment so write to your congressman tell him you do not want the US to get involved at all that includes not sending weapons or being part of a no fly zone which Obama is now looking into the idea of setting up which is why Assad wants the S-300.
9. Won't be US troops going in, #8
Cameron ,   USA   (06.05.13)
If anyone is finally forced to land troops to secure those research & storage depots, it will be Israelis. The Hezbollah boys have been the ones trying to transport those chemical & bio weapons off to Lebanon. They fully intend to nail you with them if they can secure them. That is your direct problem to address for your own raw security. Your particular business to get after.
