5. 1Missing friends in hell,poor soul....
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.09.13)

6. Kaniuk z"l
dfs ,   seattle WA USA   (06.09.13)
While I I do not identify with Kaniuk's atheism or "Canaanism", he nevertheless died a genuine hero of Am Yisrael--he endured in 1948 what no person should ever have to, but tens of thousands of Jewish youth did-fighting for their lives and the lives of their people. Kaniuk was severely wounded as a result. Let no one set themselves as his judge. He is with the Supreme Judge who alone has that right and I believe he will be judged for a place of honor. zikrono levracha.
7. Doing against his wish
David Fakheri ,   U S A Los Angles   (06.10.13)
God bless his soul,I learned many interesting lessons from his TV programs. Although I'm a religious Jew but I don't think to do anything against his wish to not to be blessed even with " KADISH " is a good idea
8. Religious Coercion even after death is an abomination!
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (06.10.13)
Chief Rabbi Metzger, you do not have the right to go against the wishes of this man who is now dead and cannot protest. This is just another form of religious coercion and must be stopped! You and your Haredi bigots are defiling Judaism and are driving Jews away from what we have been taught to believe - tolerance! By forcing Jews to go against what they believe in is dividing the people and will bring on the next Holocaust and the total destruction of the Jewish people!
9. #8, It's comments like yours that divide the Jewish people
Jake   (06.10.13)
as well as attitudes of those like Kaniuk. And it's actions like those of Rabbis Metzger and Lau that help bring lost Jewish souls back to the fold.
10. if he's an atheist...
Chani ,   Modiin   (06.10.13)
then what does he care if Jews say kaddish for him? If he's right that there is no G-d, and he has no soul, then the prayers would be meaningless. If the rabbi's right, then he has performed a chessed shel emet by praying for a lost, ungrateful soul...
11. Misrad Ha pnim has decided that we all have no religion
adi cohen ,   Rannana   (06.10.13)
, and his legal battle, which eventually opened a breach for the registration of Jewish citizens as having no religion, what was the legal battle for, all he had to do was have his ID reissued after a certain date and Misrad Ha pnim would have granted his wish without any battles, after losing my ID and having to have it reissued in 2002 , I was apalled to see that one day I was legally recognised as Jewish (of which I am very proud) and the next day as far as the ministery of interior was concerned I no longer had a a religion instead of being Jewish I had become*********, so why the legal battle????
12. Reply to number 8 religious coercion
Joseph ,   London UK   (06.10.13)
One says Kaddish and learns Mishnayos to honour the person who has passed on. It is neither intolerant nor coercion to honour Kaniuk, and I don't believe he is in any way offended. From where he is now he can see the deep Ahavas Yisrael people feel for him.
13. To number 11
Shimon ,   Poleg   (06.11.13)
Your ID card has your religion written in another more subtle way. Date of birth id written in the Hebrew calendar for Jews and in the Loazi calender for non-Jews. Look at your teudat zehut and compare it to a Russian non-Jewish colleague at work you'll see what I mean!

Adi ,   Raanana   (06.11.13)
I am very aware of that subtilty, why in a jewish state for Jewish people do I have to be subtle about my Jewishness
