Anyone who sees the world as it is and does not bury their head in the sand , knows that we have lost lots of sympathy and support in the U.S. Our occupation and settlement policy together with our feckless politicians are alienating American Jewish youth and the American government. During the cold war virtually all the arab states were Soviet client states and loyal to the Soviet Union whilst Israel was pretty much the only country in the region America considered an ally. The US didn't even have much interest in Israel until 1967 when Israel proved that like America it was able to fight and win. Then the cold war ended and the arabs were no longer getting so many weapons at bargain basement prices from the Soviets and slowly America started to loose interest in Israel. Probably started with George HW Bush because he put the screws on Israel to create a palestinian state which was the price of the arabs in exchange for joining the coalition to get Saddam out of Kuwait. Bill Clinton wanted to be nice to Israel and the palestinians equally because his priority was the peace process not who is Americas ally and who isn't. George W Bush was a friend to Israel because of his war on terror. Obama has been more like an enemy and possibly even worse thanhis mentor Jimmy Carter was. When the US discovers there is something new that Israel has to offer but the arabs do not then we will be best buddies again because its in American interests to be so. All this shows is just like we cannot rely on the UN peace keepers to protect us we cannot rely on the US so we must be more self sufficient.
