31. US recognition was only de facto
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (06.09.13)
The second country to recognise the State of Israel was the Soviet Union and it went all the way with full de jure recognition. Looking backwards and at the present,it seems to me that it could have been better if Israel had fostered good relations with Russia in 1948.Russia has been a far more consistent friend to its allies than the USA as we can clearly see today. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
32. "The American interest in our region is decreasing,"
A ,   Belgium   (06.09.13)
that is why Egypt and its hostile moslem extremist government just recieved baksheesh of 1.5 billion US sucker dollars. Cry about THAT, taxpayers!
33. #25. Go back to 1967...
A ,   Belgium   (06.09.13)
Little Israel launched a preemptive attack against 3 hostile arab neighbors: Egypt, Syria and Jordan, in order to prevent a certain surprise attack. Israel didn't need the US than...six days was not enough time for the US to decide how to react..., certainly wont now with Barak Hussein.
34. What a story teller!!!
Avouskila ,   South America   (06.09.13)
Haber would like us to still stick to his Eastern European mentality which always looked for some outside protector. I think that he should follow reality or just give up trying to preserve a reality that has gone quite a time ago. America is changing paths as the Geo-political maps are beeing drawn on a different, moving, sand. Israel is no longer the country that saw multitude of new Moroccan Jewish immigrants in the 50s and 60s surviving on bread and...water. The globe has stayed the same but the players are moving about, so are the interest of every moving object-country. Europe is even making this map very unpredictable, looking for China as the next anchor of its port of survival. Nothing remain the same and Israel, as it is a duty of a self respected sovereign State, is to vision ahead of time the center for its gravitation for freedom and prosperity. I wouldn't give Haber any credit for this Article. Nadda!!!!!!!11
35. leftist us admin+Jewish State=bad pair.
trump   (06.09.13)
36. Demand UNLIMITED Judea/Samaria building NOW!
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.09.13)
The last person Israel should allow to make our policy is the most hostile and incompetent president in U.S. history. Every good Jew and Israeli patriot must unite and demand UNLIMITED Jewish building throughout all of Judea and Samaria NOW! Our goal should be a million Jews in Judea and Samaria by 2018. More than two million by 2033. This tiny land is ours now and forever!
37. stop panicking
CJK   (06.09.13)
israel will survive, with or without the us. the present us policies will not survive the obama administration which is imploding from extremely serious scandals. furthermore, the military cooperation has continued and israel will continue to receive certain weapons systems from the us.
38. Haber on US Israel relations
David Chinitz ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.09.13)
Hackneyed, superficial, uninspired, oblivious of what is going on in the US and the Arab world. It used to be that US dependence on Arab oil was a threat to Israel, now it's US oil independence? Time to make way for new thinking and new columnists
39. the polls say the total opposite.Haber acts like a dimmhi
(06.10.13)
40. To #10, You've got Haber down pat.
Edward ,   New York USA   (06.10.13)
He is one of the worst detractors of Israel.. The American people and the US Congress overwhelmingly support Israel. Obama does not represent us nor does he have the best interests of the American people at heart. His guiding motto is apologize to your enemies and retreat, attack your friends, and reduce the constitutional rights of Americans to nothing. H e has failed miserably to do his job, hopefully he will be impeached for dereliction of his constitutional duties. What he and his administration have done to subvert the American elections make Watergate look like nothing.
41. I pray for the day USA dumps israel.
American First   (06.10.13)
42. You Err !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (06.10.13)
is the other Way around as the US has got a Muslim Precident changing the Policy of the US. Israels Position Politically has not changed since 1948, the strategic situation has not changed and, the sourunding Nation are Hostile against Israel as before . It is the US who has changed to the Worst and Judgement awaits Her. She has waisted Her Legacy from her Ancestors, and will pay terribly for Her Downfall from conduct and opinion since Her Birth. Her only chanse of survival in Repentence otherwise She will face utter Destruction. Arn.Sweden.
43. The people of the United States ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.10.13)
... stand by Israel. That is a fact well borne out by polls which consistently show Increasing loyalty to Israel. And diminishing support for the ersatz "Palestinians." Obama is going to have to find another way to write himself into the history books. Actually, he already has -- but not in a particularly flattering light. Oh, well. That's what happens when an inept "community organizer" finds himself in the White House. On the bright side, no one takes Obama seriously anymore. Most of us never did.
44. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST COLUMNS WRITTEN BY MR HABER...
Rafi ,   US   (06.10.13)
I live in the US & follow these trends closely... Mr Haber is totally correct in his thesis: a) that in today's world, despite all the bravado, Israel IS extremely dependent on the US militarily, diplomatically & economically... This is what's known as "reality" - contrary to most Talkbacker dillusions. example: two yrs ago when the Israeli embassy staff was under siege in Cairo... who did Netanyahu urgently call ? That's right: the same guy that he was urinating on only a few weeks before... b) that American public support for Israel IS eroding especially from the left, but also increasingly from the middle. By far, the main reason has been Bibi's gratuitously abusive policies regarding the Palestinians. But to hear the right-wing Talkbackers tell it, the US needs Israel more than the other way around... The reality is, as Mr Haber correctly points out, that if Israeli "misbehavior" continues, the right-wing dream/ illusion could rapidly transform into a nightmere.
45. In Theory
Zechariah   (06.10.13)
In theory we are strong enough to but repel the Islam for decades to come but ought prepare for a deal where both Jews and Arabs leave the Holy Land and allow It a Rest from human strife by a Peaceful Disengagement from the Land without Mass war .
46. The mayor of Chelm speaks.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (06.10.13)
Too bad Haber has no idea what he is talking about. The store was a haberdashery.
47. #41 we know how you suffer split
(06.10.13)
48. As the resident american evangelical
sean green ,   pasadena usa   (06.10.13)
You are correct. We have no interest in an atheist state, but we see reform and orthodox torah believing jews as our brothers in religion. Though our numbers decline I think Catholics have begun to think this way too. Of course the rising atheists could care less and frequently hate you just cause we like you, to be contrarian.
49. Israel not of Western or US values
David N. ,   Haifa, ISRAEL   (06.10.13)
Israel is not a Western nation, nor does it represent US or Western values in the middle east. We are here for Jewish, Torah values. Not Khareidi Talmudism, not American secular, not European mercantile values. We have elements of both east and west, are an Asian country in origin and geography, Not saying that there are not good things in the West, but this idea that we serve western interests is false. And the idea that the US government has ever been a genuine supporter of Israel is dubious. Individual support, there is. But even at that the US is the largest source of high-traffic anti-Semitic net sites, and growing. Some American people stand with us, but a huge number do not. It is delusional to look to America. God seems a much better choice than a secular and materialistic child of the British empire.
50. hasta lavista usa.
miri ,   miami/T.A.   (06.10.13)
may i remind you dear y-net. that america needs us just as much as we need them. their pitiful intelligence could never keep up with our Mossad vis a vis middle east info.once the useless muslim pres. thats in the white house is out things will improve.
51. A lot of talk about the US reliance
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (06.10.13)
on Israel providing a foothold in the Middle East. I have news for you, modern technology means Diego Garcia is America's foothold in the middle east. Israel had no role as a platform in the invasion of Iraq (Kuwait was that) and with the realisation that the US needed an airbase in the region Qatar was chosen. Israeli politicians still have a cold war mentally believing if they court the Russians America will come begging, news for you chucking money at Egypt which has a strategically important canal to stop it turning to Islamist much more likely. The cuts in the IDF is nothing so far as what is going to happen
52. Tired America so?
Andrea ,   CA   (06.10.13)
Who cares of a president who is already bored of Bibi or even he's against Judaism, who really cares? We don't have to worry . Israel has always been alone. US sometimes according to its convenience support us, and others not But surely we can say that another Israeli friend has emerge, not related to terrorism, which leader has nothing to do with Muslims, whose birth certificate has not been stolen or even lost. Canada is the best friend Israel had in all its history and particularly now, so I really do not understand why the person who wrote this is in such fear thet Obama or even US would get tired of Israel. Also if it happens, it shows they were not the friend they assured us , so its close relation with Israel was only because they were convinient for the States. Moreover, we cannot deny the political inclination of this paper, which is tilted to the left, and people in it's editorial (president, important editors, etc) are more than angry that Bibi, which particularly is not a leftist is in his third or second period, and Israel as a country and as a society is growing fast. Sorry, but Ynet is not playing fair.
53. why are you wasting space on such dumb leftist tripe? he is
ralph   (06.10.13)
wrong in so many ways. this kind of dumb piece calls your credibility into question.
54. Israel Losing America
Harold ,   USA   (06.10.13)
Israel Is losing America and all nations who love peace. We US Taxpayers are fed-up and say Enough is Enough.
55. #15.. arminius states.. " don't asssume I'm anti-Israeli "
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (06.10.13)
Arminius # 15 also stated the following......... " US had no enemies in the Middle East before it became allies with Israel. " Not true - The Arab/Muslim countries hate of Americans existed because the USA is a free and democratic country and is also non-Moslem. The Arab countries hate democarcy period, and the USA is a democaracy just like Israel is.
56. True but False!!!
Taz Man ,   USA   (06.10.13)
The Obama administration clearly hates Israel, along with many anti-Semites! That goes on everywhere! However, there are many true Christian Zionists', like myself, who love and supports Israel. Israel is not alone! God will take care of her, as will our prayers for Israel's safety. God bless Israel; praying for the peace of Jerusalem!!!
57. Attitudes HAVE changed
JZ ,   Tel Aviv   (06.10.13)
Although I was not alive during Truman's presidency and still in diapers during Jimmy Carter's, I must say the attitudes of American people toward Jews and Israelis have changed significantly in the last decade. Some of my childhood friends keep me 'at bay' because I moved to Israel and raising my child 'more' Jewish than I was raised. Some have even participated in anti-Israel protests and when I ask why the answer given is because what they see/read on the news regarding settlement occupation and our treatment of Palestinians or what is taught/discussed in a college classroom. These are the same people, my friends, who sat and wept next to me in 7th grade history class when Holocaust survivors came to share their stories. Obviously, we're not the media's love child either as its very bias.
58. Russia and America
galilean ,   Israel   (06.10.13)
We, Israel, can thank Russia for our existence. The fact that Russia is supporting Syria in order to protect THEIR deep sea port....only means to us Israelis....that America has to support Israel...with our two deep sea ports. We are the only deep sea ports in this area...that the Americans can truly trust.

60. America's biggest problem is Julius Ceaser
ma nishma ,   modiin   (06.10.13)
They seem to focus on the Gays, while the economy sinks and is transferred to the Far East, something reminiscent of Ceaser fiddling while Rome burns. They focus on the 'secondary' and ignore the 'prime' problems. Ah, but they feel good about themselves even though they are on a sinking ship.
