1. Some of this is disturbing
Vlad   (06.12.13)
Yes, penalize actual discrimination, but a conversation? Seriously? Putting people in prison for the things they say?
2. # 1 Vlad
Sagi   (06.12.13)
Yes Vlad, very seriously. Have you never heard of incitement and sedition. Free speech is a cornerstone of democracy. Free speech is written into, what I consider, the three most important legal documents ever composed, Magna Carta, The Rights of Man and the American Constitution. But even free speech has its limits. Sedition is abusing the Mother from whom you gain sustenance, incitment to hatred against a fellow human is abusing their right to expression, a right which they have just as equally as you. I openly state that I do not like a certain sector of Israeli society, their way of life and their culture. I avoid them as much as possible, but I would never dream of attacking them verbally in an abusive manner or of advocating that they should not have access to a bus or a certain seat on a bus. Yes Vlad, free speech is a value but so is human dignity.
3. #2 actions, not words, are impediments to human dignity
Vlad   (06.12.13)
We should only take action against actual impediments to freedom and human dignity, and let people say what they want to say and stop trying to censor speech, even if it is politically incorrect or even downright evil.
4. Political Correctness
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (06.12.13)
This new law in the making is disturbing because it is stultifying to a degree that no freewheeling society can manage. Women will make use of it in order to squeeze the life out of men and our social institutions. And who created it? Why Tsipi Livni, Israel's own "women's liberationist". In fact, that's one of the main reasons that when this proposition is put to vote, it will never pass (Thanks be to God).
5. I find it debasing that people call me "settler!"
Riva ,   Gush Etzion   (06.13.13)
Therefore, any article which debases me and others like me can now have charges brought against them. Be warned YNET!
6. Yes Mr. Haymond @ #4
Israeli 2   (06.13.13)
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I see Israel being very problematic in its LAW department.
7. Discrimination
Edouard ,   Canada   (06.13.13)
It's about time
8. #4 I HOPE it is rejected
Vlad   (06.13.13)
The feminist lobby asks the wives of ministers and MKs to put pressure on them to vote in favor of women's interests. It's worked before: they delayed raising the female retirement age until 2017 thanks to this method. But on the other hand, the Tender Years Clause was abolished and equal rights for divorced fathers are on the way. So let's hope they have some common sense.
9. the tip of a totalitarian iceberg
jay abouaf ,   jaffa israel   (06.13.13)
although i agree with the spirit of the discussion, the cure is far worse than the sickness.
10. The other side of the coin...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.13.13)
Criminal sanctions against individuals humiliating or discriminating Haredim. I am all for it.
11. who will go after the Moslem population?
Fred ,   Petach Tikva   (06.13.13)
or is this law only against Jews. Will Arabs who separate the sexes for cultural /religious reasons also be put in jail for a year? or is this only for religious Jews? Will the security protecting the PM now allow Arabs to join or are they a security risk for the PM not for the little Jew in the nightclub or park.
12. #2 explain
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.13.13)
So "human dignity" of women is especially protected so that any comment can lead to jail time. But what about senior citizens? Don't they deserve protection? What about Muslims? Arabs? Gays? Legal and illegal Chinese, African and Philipine workers? Handicapped? How about to get real justice we simply make a law that targets anything said by able-bodied Jewish, heterosexual men between 10 and 64? Or how about we make a law that allows the police to make anyone a criminal whenever politically expedient?
13. # 3 Vlad
Sagi   (06.13.13)
That's better Vlad. Now I can agree with you.
14. # 12 Response
Sagi   (06.13.13)
There is no need for an explanation. I said it all in my former post, it is just that you chose to interpret it as meaning "women only". Nowhere in my post did I use the word woman or indeed any word which describes a specific section, sect, gender, ethnic group etc. I just said "human dignity". I also would like to point out to you that the three legal documents that I refered to also do not in any way specify and divide but rather they are directed at society as a whole. Human dignity means you and me and everybody else. The fact that you gave it the wrong interpretation suggests to me that your conscience is not clear, either you are party by deed or by consent. Tacet consentire videtur is an important part of law in those countries whose legal system is based on English Common Law or Roman Law.
15. As reported - Discrimitory law
Dan ,   Kefar Sava   (06.13.13)
The law - according to this article- applies only to actions and words against females. What about equal protection for males.
16. Robert Haymond #4 are you sure they will vote on it?
(06.14.13)
The wording of this article makes it sound like it's already law.
17. Does this apply to the Temple Mount too?
anon ,   jerusalem   (06.14.13)
18. #12 learn to read
hmp49 ,   Asheville NC USA   (06.16.13)
Which word didn't you understand. You said: " What about Muslims? Arabs? Gays? Legal and illegal Chinese, African and Philipine workers?" Livni said: "Justice Minster Tzipi Livni said "phenomena such as women's exclusion, segregation between Jews and Arabs, racial selection at night clubs or anywhere in Israeli society are intolerable and immoral. It is our role to curb these phenomena and battle them. "
