1. Haredim Made Errors
Zechariah   (06.13.13)
In WW2 the Haredi Rabbis often advised their followers not to flee with Catastrophic results .In fact more than a million even Two million Jews were saved from Genocide by fleeing and getting to Work to destroy Nazism.
2. Absolutely not!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.13.13)
If the haredi sector does not respect the uniform of an Israeli soldier, they are the ones with a problem. And it is that problem which must be dealt with -- harshly, if necessary. Too many Israelis have died to protect them and ensured their continuing ability to leech monstrously off the State of Israel. If they really take offense, the haredim should leave the country which they do not recognize and in which they do not pay taxes. Obviously, this is not all haredim. I refer to the obnoxious ultra, ultra-Orthodox sects known as the Neturei Karta and the Satmer. They are the ones who cause the problems. There are other Hassidic sects who cause no problems at all. Anyone who harms or threatens a Haredi soldier in uniform should be expelled from the country. I'm sure Iran would be delighted to have them. After all, aren't they the most enthusiastic of participants in Iran's annual anti-Zionist fest? We would be well rid of them. They are pure tref.
3. Absolutly yes. Make this change as painless as possible
jrebecca ,   modiin   (06.13.13)
Why flaunt this when feelings are still so high here. As more Haredim join, and those against become less in number, the acceptance will come automatically. In the mean time, make it easier for Haredim to be in the Army. As far as I know Arab soldiers already have this issure.
4. Today
H G. P.T   (06.13.13)
We were told of chareidim who are afraid to wear work style clothes in their home area, now that they are working. So they wear their white shirts. Sad lot aren't they. They won't wear clothes such as old tshirts even if manual labour is involved. Scared of their drekky communities. Wait till they raise their standard of living, their neighbours will platz with jealousy, I hope.
5. 4 Your TB tells more about you...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.13.13)
than about Haredim.
6. Calm Down
babawawa ,   new york, USA   (06.13.13)
Wow, Sarah B, take a chill pill. This whole Haredi in the army thing takes some getting used to. It may take a generation before everyone stops freaking out about it So calm down. Let's just get through it. As far as the Haredim not escaping Europe at the bequest of their Rebbes, where exactly would they have gone? The Yishuv wasn't all that thrilled about taking them in, even if they could have and the rest of the world wasn't interested in saving Jewish lives. The results gave founding a Jewish state a greater imperative.
7. I would wish the IDF would stop pandering to these nutjars
Al   (06.13.13)
The only ones they really have to be concerned about are the IDF soldiers and their families. The truth is most if not all of the frum families are very proud of their sons who serve in the IDF. My son tells of how in his unit, there are many very frum young men with payos down to their shoulders who are serve in the Tank Corps. Its interesting..the ex is very frum and always wanted the kids to stay in yeshivas. Well as luck would have it, they refused to stay in the Yeshivas and when they decided to enlist she was beside herself in grief. It was almost as if she wanted to sit shiva. I told her at the time that in due time, she will be very proud of her sons as they come home from service in their uniforms. Well wouldn't you know it..thats exactly what happened. Life evolves. The ultra frummies will get with the program. Its just a question of time.
8. Pending disaster!!!
R Horman ,   Bmore, USA   (06.13.13)
The Haradi community needs to insist that its young soldiers not be assembled into one group or military unit. This united group idea produced two territble disasters in US history. The first was the many local units that were destroyed in the US Civil War. During that war state units were typical. When one of these units destroyed (as at the Battle of Fredericksburg) the causalties came from that state alone. The New York "Iron Bridage' was destroyed at Maries Ridge during the battle of Fredericksberg. How bad was that battle? At Gettysburg the Union troups shouted: "Fredericksburg...Fredericksburg" as they saw the confererate troop cross the rise of Cemetary ridge. During World War II at Omaha Beach most of the casualties were from the 29th Infantry Division. It was a National Guard Division from the US states of Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The division's nickname was the Blue and Gray Division. There is one town on Maryland's Eastern Shore that lost every member of one year's graduating class. The town of Bradford, Virginia lost the largest percentage of casualties of any town/city in the US during WWII. Their National Guard units landed at Omaha beach and were destroyed. Do not let unified Haradi units face the same fate. Mix them into other units.
9. hold on
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (06.13.13)
I have had several sons and sons-in-law in the army and they wore their uniforms with pride and no one spoke one word against them. It is a small group of nuts who think only they are charadim who get all of the headlines. But they are the smallest minority of charadim. Most do not react at all to a charadi with IDF uniform. Let's not believe all that is published. Let's not get crazy on this stupidity.
10. haredi harrassed in uniform by their own
esthermiriam ,   washington, dc   (06.14.13)
The soldiers need support and protection, to be sure, but why is the army not demanding that those who are the harrassers are dealt with by civil authority, instead of giving in to them?
