31. #15 The Palestinians wouldn't survive long here without
Shachar ,   Eilat   (06.16.13)
America either. You need to be careful whose hands you are biting too. I would like to see a viable democratic Palestinian state alongside Israel but it can only be realised when you accept Israel's existence and learn to live with her.
32. 8 I see Bibi like a skillful juggler..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.16.13)
who tries to keep all the balls in the air. He loves Israel for sure. He with Bennett would be a perfect team.
33. Bibi go Bye Bye
Jason ,   Montreal   (06.16.13)
Israel has turned itself into one giant ghetto. There is no more freedom in our beloved land. It is not a free country. We the Jewish People have become enslaved once again like we were back when we were in Egypt. It's time for Moses..... It's time for Moshe Feiglin.
34. hiding behind the Likud
david miller ,   bet shemesh israel   (06.16.13)
Yoel I hope your article doesn't blow up in our faces again if the last point comes to fruition.Fool me twice-shame on me is was the gov't and those running the show should be well aware of.we don't need the honey or the sting of the bee.
35. ynet article
walter goldman ,   pomona, usa   (06.16.13)
yoel meltzer's insight is spot on.
36. Russian point of view
(06.16.13)
Russia will suport the one with clear point. The same for the rest of the world. If Israel says that this Land belongs to Israel then everyone wil agree with it except for Jew haters. World hate weak people. E.g., if Assad kills 200,000 Al-quada rebels the world will support him. Arabs think that he will win.. So they dwould not send weapons to rebels: let US send--- then Arabs start killing AMericans. Win-win case for Saudis.
37. #31. Stop obscene Israeli aid to evil Fictional Palestine.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.16.13)
"Palestinians" would soon leave Israel in droves if Israel stopped the lunatic flow of money, food, materials of all kinds and electricity to evil Fictional Palestine. Never before has a state voluntarily supported its enemies. Israeli support of Fictional Palestine is historically unparalleled lunacy.
38. very big difference between the 2 situations
zionist forever   (06.16.13)
Netanyahu might be a right winger at heart but he also has to deal with realities of putting together and holding together coalitions with parties that have different ideals. He also has to deal with the reality of what is going on in the outside world and how it affects his policy making. The settlement freeze is because he is under pressure from Obama and Israel relies on America for all sorts of things so he was in no position to say no. He got on well with Barak and very often Barak was more reliable than anybody in Likud. Livni is in the current government because he needed her to form a coalition and when the options are hold a second election or invite Livni into the coalition beggers cannot be choosers. Traditionally Israeli politics has been much more stale than it is today because it was made up of Likud & Labor ( always ) with the smaller parties filling in the number gaps but both Likud & Labor were always in it together so whats the big deal about Bibi having a leftist in his coalition today? Livni has the luxury of leading her own small party and she doesn't have to worry about the realities that Bibi has to deal with but if she were PM things would be very different.
39. Bibi Gone nnative?
deborah   (06.16.13)
I am afraid Bibi will submit to more demands, weakening Israel further, as the war of attrition goes on, and we are exhausted in attempts to stay afloat. I agree that he is going native on us- what else would explain all the concessions and exposure of the Jewish public to danger. The tragedy began long ago, when we gave back the Temple Mount, and then SInai, then Gaza. These are tragically irreversible mistakes, that if we try and reclaim, will no doubt cost many Jewish lives and complete isolation from the world community. But we may have to do something, or else we will be weakened further into complete submission. It is sink or swim, and there are no halfway measures. Bibi may find himself abandoned, yes a mutiny by his party. The Likud are now more nationalistic in membership, and if they were to combine with Bennett's party, along with Lapid, then he could find himself all alone.
40. #26
Ben ,   Ny usa   (06.17.13)
Are you willing to give them the right to vote?
41. Maybe all these leaders have realizations
Ben ,   New York USA   (06.17.13)
That there are partners on the other side and that in the long run it is in the greater interest of Israel to have a viable and contiguous Palestinian state west of the Jordan river
42. #37:Of course you are right. "Unparalleled" is the right
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.17.13)
word choice. One day they will teach about this phenomenon on the campuses of world's Universities. At the Psychiatry Departments....
43. Poor Bibi! The right castigates him
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (06.17.13)
because they believe he might really support a two state solution the left castigates him because they believe he doesn't really support a two state solution. Th truth is, it doesn't matter what Bibi thinks or wants. The increasing whining and howling of the rabid right tells us everything we need to know: a two state solution is coming and there is little that Bibi or anyone else can do to stop it.
44. Looks like elections are the last thing that changes any-
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.17.13)
thing. More radical measures are to be taken into consideration if one hopes for Democracy to work. Funny innit?
45. #43. Palestine is forever fictional.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.18.13)
#43. Jump Off the Balcony. Like usual, your foolish words are a reversal of the truth. There are now more Jews living in Judea and Samaria, including Jerusalem, than in all of Israel when Israel declared independence in 1948. Within five years, we will have a million Jews in Judea and Samaria. Within 20 years; more than 2 million. Palestine is forever fictional.

zionist forever   (06.18.13)
Bibi faces the problem that every PM faces and thats balancing ideology with reality. He has coalitions to hold together which are made up of both right and left wing not necessary out of choice but because with the stupid coalition system you have to find your partners where you fid them or you cannot form a government. Coalition partners want different things so its always a balancing act trying to keep everybody content. He has pressure from Obama and its a fact there is only so far we can go when it comes to channelling American demands considering we need their weapons and support in the UN. You make Bennet or Danny Danon PMand they will pretty soon start changing their hard right tune adopt much more liberal attitudes toward the palestinins state idea not because they want to but because they have ni choice. The PM has to put reality above personal ideology so this really is not Bibi's fault, he is still a right winger at heart but he has to deal with the realities of being PM
47. #45 Reality is a frustrating inconvenience
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (06.18.13)
for people who live in a fantasy world. Look at the many references in the Mandate referring to the territory as "the state." Then look at Article 7 requiring laws enabling Jewish immigrants to acquire, "Palestinian Citizenship." That's right Chaim, Palestinian CITIZENSHIP. So which state was 100% fictional in 1925, the State of Israel or the State of Palestine? Neither you nor I know what will or will not happen tomorrow, never mind in five or twenty years. What IS clear is that Israel currently appears poised to concede most of the "disputed" territory and recognize the State of Palestine.
