Not only was Rohani one of the 8selected candidates for election by supreme Ayatollah Khomenei, , but confidence in him is so high they did not try to rig the election results which would not have been difficult since Rohani barely got above 50% of the votes. They could have at least suceded to force a second round of the élections by a minor fraud entailing only a few tousands votes. Rohani (no more than Assad in Syria) can deviate from the will of radicals who run the country. The crimes committed against the people are so grave that survival of the regime can only be achieved by the same means as before, that is violence, corruption, & abstaining from any manifestation of weakness such as credible concessions to anyone.
